Global Warming, Pirates, and the Rise of the FSM

The Cincinnati Beacon notices a relationship between global warming and pirates.

General consciousness about global warming seems to have reached a new critical mass, perhaps thanks to Al Gore’s movie and the growing awareness of green technologies.

But has anyone noticed, while more people become aware of global warming and take steps to combat it, that our culture has become filled with even more pirates? Pirates, in many ways, are experiencing a renaissance in America right now.

Read it here.

Hey all. I’m just a bit curious. What is the Pastafarian belief in terms of Ozone thinning? I know that we have phased out CFCs officially, but I just want to know.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster will cover us with His Noodly Appendages if the ozone layer gets too thin. So don’t worry.

    @Steriotypical Evironmentalist
The light-hearted response would be to agree with Beth. As an environmetally obsessed person I think it was excellent to do away with CFCs. That one got through without conspiracy theories, pity that something went very wrong when some folks got their media spin around global warming.

The serious response would be that we need to convert to solar energy, wind energy, hydrogen-powered cars, etc. as soon as possible WITHOUT the oil moguls paying everyone off so that they can keep drilling dinosaur juice out of our precious Earth. We also need to stop burning carbon-based fuels, for FSM’s sake!

The sick thing is that we already have all the technology to do all of the above, but politics and greed are preventing it. Makes me want to hurl… :(

I wish there were more people like you guys in the world… It’s sad to know that so many people are afraid to risk an initial profit decline to, not to be cliche, for I generally hate the phrase, “save the Earth”.

Yeah, you be right, Wench Beth. We could probabaly convert entirely to alternitive energy sources right now.

@Anyone with a hybrid or electic car – Do you get a “holier-than-thou” feeling when seeing a Hummer, Corvette, or Mustang drive by? I certainly do.

My next car will be a hybrid, guaranteed. I’ve had my existing car (a sedan with decent mileage) for many years and I’ve figured out that it’s more environmentally correct to keep her running — cleanly — as long as I can, and then when she goes to FSM car heaven I will get the hybrid.

Oh, and incidentally, Aristotle, Corvettes and Mustangs are EXEMPT from all emissions rules in the Book of Wench Beth! Ha ha!! They are the HAWT-est cars on the road, so they get to eat gas as much as they want! Yah!! Everything else has got to go.
    .
(I’m kidding, by the way. I am the most raging environmentalist on the planet, I think.)

Hey everyone! Check out this website! Speaking of HAWT! These cars ROCK. I am serious about that BTW – these guys are computer nuts and came at designing a car from a totally different paradigm.

What I really love (sarci) is driving down the highway behind a big semi-trailer (umm…that’s a big transporting truck in OZ…10-4big buddy? :)) while it’s belting out black smoke all the way. @#$%*@#… (sp? :)

And while on the subject of the enviroment, something that has really gotten “under my skin” at the moment is the ridiculous timing of the following Aust./USA exercise!!

To Rowdiest… I just saw your Tesla Motors link. Those cars are amazing. That’s the transportation of the future… if we can just keep the oil geeks from buying them out and burning the research :( Boy, I wish I had $100,000 — I would totally buy that car!

    Hi Wench Beth :)
Just been reading a recent article about the US Navy being taken to task over whale deaths caused by sonar in California.
    .
    From Planet Ark
“LOS ANGELES – California coastal regulators and environmentalists sued the US Navy on Thursday saying that it has planned training exercises that could endanger whales. In separate lawsuits by the California Coastal Commission and a coalition led by the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Navy was accused of refusing to comply with regulations aimed at protecting marine life from sonar pulses used to detect underwater objects.”

That sux, Wench Nikkiee. I used to live there and have been on a few whale-watching trips. Once you’ve seen a whale in the wild, you never forget. I hope the environmentalists win their lawsuit. Once the whales are gone, they’re gone :(
    .
Do you know the CSN song called “Ode to the Last Whale”? It’s beautiful and it makes me cry. There’s also a Yes song called “Don’t Kill the Whale”. These guys were trying to raise public awareness in the 70’s… obviously the government hasn’t listened :(((

The numbers have just started to build up around OZ over the past 10yrs or so after getting alarmingly low so at least that’s been positive.
I am familiar with most CNS and Yes…but can’t place the songs of top of my head:(. Just don’t have my musical bent plugged in at the mo. Will have a look and listen later :))
After reading some of the comments from the Aussies today, seems I was being much more polite last night about this clash of war games & annual whale migration area last night. I did make a concerted effort not to use that F word that kept overiding my more coherent thoughts :)
    .
Must make a run to the local store before it closes. Country closing times here :)) Catch you later.

@ Wench Beth – What, cut and paste is not working? And now I cannot use contractions again – urgh! OK, about Tesla Motors – as I understand it, one of the requirements for ownership of the company was an agreement that they would never sell out. So, it will be very unlikely that the oil companies will be able to buy them out. And I asked hubby about this and he reassured me that the men involved already have contingents of body guards. So I have some hope that this will work.

@ WB – Wee hee! I’m all about pillaging and plundering! :))) I don’t know if this is on the website or not but one of the ways they show people how powerful the car is is to ask the passenger to change the radio station and then step on the “gas” – not one has yet been able to reach the stereo controls! Now that’s a sexy car…

Totally. My favorite cars are the Corvette and Mustang, both gas-guzzlers, so I’d love to have a HAWT car that was environmentally correct! Well, when I win the lottery I’ll buy us both one! (Fingers crossed!)

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
