I just read this book titled The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss. It’s by far the best business/productivity book I’ve ever read. It’s all about cutting out the garbage that robs your time, and pursuing the things that matter.
I think maybe I liked it so much because I’ve been trying to avoid a “real job” so hard for the last couple years.
There’s a lot of really important, counter-intuitive ideas laid out in this book. Like, for instance: Busyness is a form of laziness to avoid doing the important things you need to do. I have days where I check my email 10+ times a day, and get nothing done.
If you’re interested in this kind of stuff, and I suspect a lot of Pastafarians are, check out Tim’s blog here. Or go buy the book here.

Wow…new thread

Ummm… is this news really important to Pastafarianism? Methinks the standars for new threads have been lowered a bit…

How dare you question the Prophet Bobby’s judgment? Say 10 RAmen’s and eat a bowl of spaghetti immediately.

Those of us saddled with real jobs spend our time devising ways to look busy instead of being so. Once you get a real job, you will appreciate the nobility of this calling. By the way, if you can survive without a real job, do it. And please tell me how.

I should be working right now… I’m not sure that advertising not coming here is a good business move – surely checking on your religous headquaters is the same sort of thing as checking your email when you dont need to?

Ok, on the subject of distractions from work, there is a nice collection of atheist quotes on the Irtish atheists site:
.
http://www.atheist.ie/cgi-bin/ia/cgi/pm.cgi?action=app_search&app=quotes&reverse=yes
.
Sample:
.
We must respect the other fellows religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his thoery that his wife is beautiful and his children smart H. L. Mencken
.
“Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.” Albert Einstein
.
The trues one of all in my opinion:
“True ignorance is not the absence of knowledge, but the refusal to acquire it.” Karl Popper
.
The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one George Bernard Shaw
.
“People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.†Dave Barry
.
“Calling atheism a religion is like calling bald a hair colour.” Don Hirschberg

those are so very great. Here’s one:
It was all very well going on about pure logic and how the universe was ruled by logic and the harmony of numbers, but the plain fact of the matter was that the disc was manifestly traversing space on the back of a giant turtle and the gods had a habit of going round to atheists’ houses and smashing their windows.

@ DPG- ““True ignorance is not the absence of knowledge, but the refusal to acquire it.†Karl Popper” I just sent this to my husband with whom I’ve been having a discussion on just this topic! He’s really angry with his Catholic mother because she refuses to learn about anything that might challenge her faith.

Yeah, Ann C is pretty far out there. Being a Republican and a Pastararian, I find there are many wackos on my party. However, there are plenty of nut jobs on the other side too.

@ Josh the Pirate – are you the Marine? I remember a Josh from a while back that was a Marine…I am registered Republican but there are soooo many wackos – I agree with you. At this point I’ve sort of created my own little system of what I think is right…I don’t fit in anywhere politically.
.
@ WB – Ann Coulter scares me.

@ BCA – I didn’t say you have character. I said you were out of character!!! Wahahaha! Not at all the same thing! Regardless, glad to see you! :))

The problem is that most Republicans are selfish bastards operating on greed alone, and most Democrats have no balls to stand up to them. Boy, are we in trouble :(
.
Can we start a new political party? The Pastafarian Party? For FSM’s sake, the rest of the world has multiple parties (I know, we do too, but there are only two for argument’s sake) so perhaps we can establish the Pastafarian Party before the 2008 elections. I mean, Peter Popoff (our next president) has to have his own party anyway!

RW,
Yes, I am a former Marine and probably the one to which you are referring. I can’t imagine there are so many Pastafarians named Josh who are former Marines on this site that you can’t keep track of them all. It’s too bad the Christian fundies got in bed with the GOP. I’d rather they formed their own party and got bent.

@ Josh – Welcome back!! (Unless you’ve been around and I’ve missed your posts? Possible considering I’m not here all the time, in spite of what Dread Wench thinks!! hahahaha!) My brother was a Marine for 8 years. I have so much respect for you guys!
.
I agree with you about the fundies and the GOP. I am despondent over the whole thing. This nation is becoming so very polarized, it’s tragic. It will get uglier too.

Ann Coulter….my dad likes her. Then again he’s Mister Super-Republican so there you go. (I really can’t figure out why. He’s the exact opposite of who you’d expect to be a Super-Republican. And yet he listens to radio talkshow hosts who think that Dora the Explorer show is a bad influence….)

hey thanks bobby my man, i’ll definitely check out this book. And to all of you nay-sayers (@suspicious, meow_mix), the rediculousness of the set 40 hour working week, along with that of the idea of intelligent design, is one of the basic ideologies of pastafarianism. I myself have this very day convinced my boss to pay my full wage for just 30 work hours per week.
Bring on Friday!
