The 4-Hour Workweek

4hourworkweek.jpg

I just read this book titled The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss. It’s by far the best business/productivity book I’ve ever read. It’s all about cutting out the garbage that robs your time, and pursuing the things that matter.

I think maybe I liked it so much because I’ve been trying to avoid a “real job” so hard for the last couple years.

There’s a lot of really important, counter-intuitive ideas laid out in this book. Like, for instance: Busyness is a form of laziness to avoid doing the important things you need to do. I have days where I check my email 10+ times a day, and get nothing done.

If you’re interested in this kind of stuff, and I suspect a lot of Pastafarians are, check out Tim’s blog here. Or go buy the book here.

Ok, on the subject of distractions from work, there is a nice collection of atheist quotes on the Irtish atheists site:
    .
    http://www.atheist.ie/cgi-bin/ia/cgi/pm.cgi?action=app_search&app=quotes&reverse=yes
    .
    Sample:
    .
We must respect the other fellows religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his thoery that his wife is beautiful and his children smart H. L. Mencken
    .
“Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.” Albert Einstein
    .
The trues one of all in my opinion:
“True ignorance is not the absence of knowledge, but the refusal to acquire it.” Karl Popper
    .
The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one George Bernard Shaw
    .
“People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.” Dave Barry
    .
“Calling atheism a religion is like calling bald a hair colour.” Don Hirschberg

those are so very great. Here’s one:
It was all very well going on about pure logic and how the universe was ruled by logic and the harmony of numbers, but the plain fact of the matter was that the disc was manifestly traversing space on the back of a giant turtle and the gods had a habit of going round to atheists’ houses and smashing their windows.

    @Funky Arabic Symbol Dude
Nah, I don’t even like pie that much which is really weird.
    @DPG
Awesome, I think I’ll read a few more of those while I go on not doing anything with my sad, sad life.

I like “If Atheism is a religion, not collecting stamps is hobby” can’t find who said it first…

    I love Pratchett.
Somehow I think you find there’s a hell of a lot of Pratchett fans on CoFSM…

@ DPG- ““True ignorance is not the absence of knowledge, but the refusal to acquire it.” Karl Popper” I just sent this to my husband with whom I’ve been having a discussion on just this topic! He’s really angry with his Catholic mother because she refuses to learn about anything that might challenge her faith.

Be happy she’s not a ‘God Warrior’ like that nutjob on FOX was.

  12. 32 Rowdier Wench May 23rd, 2007 at 4:42 pm

@ BCA - Ann Coulter? BTW, out of character post for you my friend!

Gotta run, will be back later folks…

  13. 33 Bearded Clam Admirer May 23rd, 2007 at 4:58 pm

    I have character?
    .
And no, not Ann….the nutjob on FOX…the three-toothed, God-Warrior from the South.

  14. 34 Wench Beth May 23rd, 2007 at 5:00 pm

    Satan’s Bitch… I mean, Ann Coulter… is also a nut job.

  15. 35 Josh the Pirate May 23rd, 2007 at 5:25 pm

Yeah, Ann C is pretty far out there. Being a Republican and a Pastararian, I find there are many wackos on my party. However, there are plenty of nut jobs on the other side too.

  16. 36 Aristotle, God of Satire May 23rd, 2007 at 5:33 pm

Hey, I like nuts! Could I get a nut job? I think it would be great to get a job at a nut processing plant! Anything to do with nuts!

  17. 37 Rowdier Wench May 23rd, 2007 at 5:43 pm

@ Josh the Pirate - are you the Marine? I remember a Josh from a while back that was a Marine…I am registered Republican but there are soooo many wackos - I agree with you. At this point I’ve sort of created my own little system of what I think is right…I don’t fit in anywhere politically.
    .
@ WB - Ann Coulter scares me.
    .
@ BCA - I didn’t say you have character. I said you were out of character!!! Wahahaha! Not at all the same thing! Regardless, glad to see you! :))

  18. 38 Wench Beth May 23rd, 2007 at 5:51 pm

BCA and Rowdier, sitting in a tree…
    .
NO, I CAN’T DO IT!!! LAUGHING TOO HARD!!!

  19. 39 Wench Beth May 23rd, 2007 at 5:56 pm

The problem is that most Republicans are selfish bastards operating on greed alone, and most Democrats have no balls to stand up to them. Boy, are we in trouble :(
    .
Can we start a new political party? The Pastafarian Party? For FSM’s sake, the rest of the world has multiple parties (I know, we do too, but there are only two for argument’s sake) so perhaps we can establish the Pastafarian Party before the 2008 elections. I mean, Peter Popoff (our next president) has to have his own party anyway!

  20. 40 Rowdier Wench May 23rd, 2007 at 6:05 pm

@ Wench Beth - Just you starting that song has me gone!! :)))) Thanks!!
    .
I love the idea of a Pastafarian Party. That would make PP’s job so much easier…and a lot of the platform is already written!

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
