Evolution Opponent Running Unopposed for National School Board Association

The National Association of State Boards of Education will elect officers in July, and for one office, president-elect, there is only one candidate: a member of the Kansas school board who supported its efforts against the teaching of evolution.

The candidate is Kenneth R. Willard, a Kansas Republican who voted with the conservative majority in 2005 when the school board changed the state’s science standards to allow inclusion of intelligent design, an ideological cousin of creationism.

Read it in the NY Times here.

It’s unclear what this will mean for Pastafarians. My guess is that it will help our cause if Mr. Willard is elected.

Or am I not seeing the Bigger picture?

    This is AWESOME!!!
When people realize just how stupid it is to teach ID in the school system, BILLIONS will flock to our cause!!!
I like to overexaggerate, but yes, it’s a good thing. Except for those poor children in Kansas.

    @Nikkiee
    RAmen to that!
Bobby should make some bold and controversial statement to get people thinking, that would help even more.

This is NOT good. I mean really, really not good. We should flood the state with voters and get a no confidance vote for the win. Or would that be a gainst the law?

What sort of influence would the chairman of NASBE have on his own? If he has to present the view of the (hopfully more sane) board majority then things shouldn’t matter too much? If on the other hand he can do things without consulting the board then I politely disagree with the Pastafarians here who see it as a good cause. The goal of this website was not to have that nonsense. Saying that it’s a good thing because it will get us more adherents is a sign of people being blow of course quite a bit imho.

    But DPG
Means we can refresh our push to have Pastafarianism taught in science class. :)))

    Dutch,
Politicians are supposed to present the view of the majority too…
    .
I personally think Ken Miller should run against him, he at least knows what he is talking about.

To Professor Booty… congratulations on getting first post!!!
    .
To Pixely Pope the Everything… RAmen on your statement that “Bobby should make some bold and controversial statement to get people thinking, that would help even more.” Excellent idea!

Hahaha. Maybe Alchemist is right and I should get a better sense of humour about things. Anyone care to give me that for my birthday today?
    .
As long as I haven’t got a sense of humour yet, the idea that this thing would be good for us sounds to me like the World Wildlife Fund cheering on the slaughtering of endangered animals because it will get them more contributors, if you see what I mean.

I second that too Pixel. There is a much, much larger Pastafarian congregation to be reckoned with this time round!

It isn’t good news DPG :((
The “good thing” is tongue in cheek. Satire!
I think all that everyone is saying is that they are ready to fight. As always. :))
Happy Birthday you old thing :))

  17. 17 Wench Nikkiee May 20th, 2007 at 5:06 pm

I doubt there is one Pastafarian here who is genuinely gladdened by this news!
I’m certainly not one anyway! You should know that :)))

“Happy Birthday you old thing :))”
    Thanks kiddo.

The silver lining is that it does provide a chance to put the worldwide anti-ID movement back in the spotlight. Hence more Pastafarian converts…larger army to fight the enemy…ect. ect! :))

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
