The FSM Chat experiment was a success – over 200 registered users in the first 24 hours. But, it was too slow and it was killing the server. So I’m going to install a faster, better chat service. I’m hoping that it will be up by tomorrow.

Thanks for doing that, Bobby. I know that lots of Pastafarians are really enjoying it! I wish I had the time to participate in the chat — anyone got an extra 24 hours a day they could loan me??

yay. I like it a lot, don’t have enough time for it really, but chatter away anyway. So far I’ve had a talk on languages, movies, books, the weather and some nonsense. But all enjoyable.

So thanks, Bobby.

What about using IRC? It’s a scalable, open chat protocol that has ruled the Free Real Time Text-Based Messaging department of the interwebs since the end of the cold war. With large already existing server networks such as FreeNode that can handle hundreds of thousands of users it is really awesome compared to what you tried before. In adddition to easy to use web clients such as the one FreeNode provides (http://java.freenode.net//index.php?channel=enterthenameofyourchannelhere) there are lots of free (as in speech) irc clients out there for almost any hardware platform you could imagine, whoch means that anyone can chat from anywhere.. without a browser capable to run a special bloated chat system. Networks such as FreeNode do offer free, acccount based moderation/admin tools for large channels.
These free X-Chat for Windos builds are nice, http://www.silverex.org/download/ (*nix versions available in your distribution repository or http://www.xchat.org); and so is the Chatzilla extension for Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/16/ . Lunix geeks often prefer (almost) perpetually running instances of Irssi in combination with GNU Screen. http://www.irssi.org/

@ Alchemist – Howdy! Me too on the error message. I think in protest I may go lie on the sofa. :) Not nearly enough sleep lately. Was looking forward to a fun night on FSM last night and got preempted by hubby with a dying very important server at work. He was up till 3am trying to get it going…it was hard to sleep thru the typing and cussing! Ah well…

You mean, you DON’T want a president who can ride a giraffe? If I was American, he would have my vote for sure. Originality is highly underrated these days. With all the lying politicians, and the pettiness and rampant stupidity, I would support anyone who was at least original in their ideas.
.
@Peter Popoff
Not saying you are any of those things. Just saying that I would happily support almost any campaign that went off the beaten track. Your ideas seem better than most… you and DPG… too bad he isn’t American, he could be your running mate.

The Rational Reponse Squad chat room or here, hard to chat in both!!!!
By the way FSM is making personal appearances occassionaly in that room, floats around clearly visible in some people’s web cams!!!.

Wenches! Pirates! Good grief!
How on earth will we ever rule the world, if we can’t even take over err’ I mean hold the Presidency of America without fighting amongst ourselves?
Let us work this out without fry pans! For crying out loud!
Wench Beth; I want you to be my right hand person, procurer of Mistresses, and other most important thingies!
.
DPG, Of course you must be my policy writer! Who else but you understands, entirely. The need to bring back slavery, the importance of human/giraffe trampoline mating, while also understanding the value of a good cigar? I mean really, your ideals are so in tune with mine, and your ability to put thought to pen is nothing short of genius!
.
At, everybody, when elected… yes I said when, not if. I promise all Wenches and Pirates equal title in the Throneship?
Yeah, I like that word. So lets all fight together against global warming, poverty, healthcare, immigration, Christians, Jews, Moslems, Hindus, those goofy assed Scientologists, ugly babies, ugly men, ugly women, heck, everything ugly.
Let us make this a beautiful world for most of us!
Thank you for listening to me today, and for FSM’s sake; let’s save the fry pans for use against our enemas!

I saw a documentary (by the daughter of Nancy Pelosi I believe) about Schwarzeneggers campaign. The busses in his entourage all had names of Schwarzeneggers movies. His was called The Terminator. In a nice bit of humour, the journalists were on busses called Predator 1 and Predator 2.

To DPG… that is pathetic but it was worse than even that. In his speeches he constantly used the catch lines from his movies to make his political points. Afraid I’m not familiar with any of those terms kitty. Only one I know is cash. Is it possible that maybe some of your supporters here could take up a collection and deposit it into my swiss bank account?
Perhaps, for a little extra on top of my fee I could have a word with with ABC News regarding an advance on the “tell all”. No doubt, if they had my word on the validity of outright depravity commonly practiced by Mr Thumper, myself being a most eminent QC, they would issue an advance.

The Peter Popoffs and the Batmen, they are all christians who love Martha Stewart. My point is, the Flying Spaghetti Monster MUST enter the political arena, for there is no solution like the one where a supernatural entity interferes actively with a government’s totalitarian hold on its victims – er, I mean, “constituents.”
BTW, picked up the Gospel last night. I haven’t had time to read it at all yet, but I know that every word is true.

That is a very fair question, I’m glad you asked it!
.
We feel “ugly” is more of a feeling then a physical appearance,
Kind of like… he had a nasty “ugly” disposition.
.
We feel physical beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and with so many of us having our own eyes. How could we possibly judge who or who isn’t attractive?
Hope this helps.

Hello all,
.
Haven’t been around much because I’ve been busy with the book pledge (to get Dawkins book sent to every UK MP). And it will succeed for sure! Only 8 to go out of 645. Probably just an hour or two now and it’s there. Woohoo!
.
In connection with the book project various people have been lobbying organisations like the National Secular Society to spread the news among their members. As one of them I got a forwarded email from the NSS Newsletter that contained this passage:
.
“In a notable exception from your usual high standard, I note that in the 16 March issue of Newsline, under the headline ‘Australia’s drought is because people don’t believe in Allah, says cleric’, ”
.
Alarm!! Muslims are trying to take over our territory, explaining the drought and global warming by unbelief, but not in the FSM but in that silly Allah dude. Guys, this is a cause for great concern.
Mr. future prez, if I may give a bit of advice here: we urgently need to work on our foreign policy. I propose that as soon as you are elected, your first presidential order is to carpet bomb all major Australian cities. With spagetti and noodles, to save their souls. That sort of Muslim blasphemy cannot be tolerated and requires drastic action. Noodles raining from the sky will hopefully save them from an eternity of ugly strippers. If airplane bombing is not enough, I’m afraid there is nothing for it but to load the US’s full arsenal of ICBMs with spagetti and launch those at them. All of them, land or submarine based, doesn’t matter, all of them. Get the Strategic Air Command on it the moment you finish taking the oath.
If airial or missile bombardment isn’t enough, we’ll have to put heavy armoured divisions on the ground with their new spagetti-dispensing shells. And make the navy mine Sydney harbour with the new mines that spread spagetti on impact (a bit like confetti poppers at parties). But I truly hope it won’t come to that and that only mild spagetti bombardment will make them see sense. What are these people thinking anyway?
.
Question to Aussie pastafarians: were you sleeping?! How could you let this slip through?! The world is being undone under your very eyes and you’re all too busy knocking each other over the head with frying pans. Get your act together people, the Apocalyse may be nigh!

In another bit of foreign policy thinking, I think you should give huge amounts of economic aid to Mexico. The country that gave rise to the movie genre of the ’spagetti western’ deserves our aid so much more than some other nations that allow Muslim extremist clerics to use their country for inciting rice eating and other crimes against humanity. So any preferential economic status that Australia enjoys, should be transferred to Mexico.

Long post @DPG
.
Um, what, the whole muslim thing? You think we haven’t noticed?
.
Let’s see, because of that, we have had, in the last five years;
.
Two suicide bombings overseas, amounting to many dead Australians (Bali bombings)
.
Cronulla riots
.
2 muslim terror cells, one in Melbourne, one in Sydney.
.
Some idiotic firebrand cleric from Sydney (probably te one you quote) who calls women not in full hijab uncovered meat (and condoned the gang rape that had occurred, and the filming of the act by that comment), says we have less right to be here then he does, because many of us had ancestors who were convicts, and who slags off the country everytime he gets in front of a camera.
.
Oh, and a recent set of charming excerpts from the exploits of lebanese youths, with such delightful messages as “Fuck off, Lebo’s only!” and “Australia’s under new management” with a picture of Oz in the colours of the lebanese flag.
.
.
We cannot get past the bloody islamophobia as a result of this and the insane media circus attendant on it.
.
We know all about it, but what do you propose we do? Tell muslims they cannot practice their faith anymore? Boot them all out of the country? Ethnic cleansing perhaps? Those sort of things take us places we don’t want to go, but things like integration no longer work.
.
We have had muslims living here peacefully since the 1800s. We have, over the course of our existance, taken in people from nearly every nation on earth, and made them our own. However, in the last 20 odd years, we have had immigrants who do not integrate, but insulate. They live together, work together, stay together. We can’t do anything about it though, because neither side is willing to make any concession to the other.
So, we have a large population of disaffected youths, whose parents come from a different world. They are angry, they are violent, and they do not associate with Australia.
.
Our country is going to hell in a handbasket, and there is sweet fuck all we can do about it.

@ Jingles – RAmen! Didn’t the Aussie president recently tell the Muslims they could get along or get out? We were very encouraged to hear that – I hope it actually happened. We are having similar problems here in the US with the lack of integration. We are no longer the “melting pot”. For what reason I know not, people are just spineless these days. I would love to have a “live and let live” policy globally, but when these extremists are out there we can’t afford to have that attitude. It’s not pretty but it’s true. I wonder how many people will have to be blown up, raped, and whole societies torn down before some sanity kicks in and we stand up for something. *Rowdy rant over now.*

I only helped out a little with the book pledge, but yes, it is very nice to see it succeed. We are trying to have a large part of the books delivered to Westminster in a mass handover by e. g. someone from the British Humanist Association. That would hopefully create a good photo oppurtunity.
Once all is done here and it turned out a success, I think I may put the idea on some atheist-oriented message board in the US or other English language country. A copy of Sam Harris “Letters to a Christian nation’ for everyone in Congress?
.
Spagetti ok, but westerns from Italy?

@ DPG – I’ve only seen a handful of spagetti westerns, but here’s a link to one of my favorites:

I gave my Dad a copy of The God Delusion for Christmas. He was impressed! I haven’t read it yet. Even if we can’t get people to completely abandon the insanity that is religion, it’s worthwhile if we can get them to question even one thing about what they believe…

@Rowdy, we call them Prime Ministers…
.
“Didn’t the Aussie president recently tell the Muslims they could get along or get out?”
.
He might have said that to the renegade mufti, but i doubt he said it to muslims as a whole. If he did, he would have copped a king sized shit storm from anti-discrimination groups.
.
He did however go all out against Mugabe, which is a reassuring sign that our PM might just have a spine after all…
.
.
@DPG, don’t stress, I’m just venting. The simple fact is, I’m scared of where we are going as a country. It’s not just the muslim nutjobs, it also includes all the “patriotic” lunatics who see this as a great chance to justify pushing what basically amounts to institutionalised racism.

“What’s next?”
Next is Popoffs education policy. I think it will include the mandating of reading ‘The God delusion’ and ‘Letters to a Christian nation’ as part of religious education in schools. In the interest of ‘hearing both sides of the argument’ of course. That’s what the religious crowd are so fond of, as they thought that was a way to push ID into science class rooms. Let’s turn that against them. So yes, we’ll hear all sides of the argument, beginning in r.e. classes. We’ll take away a good deal of time formerly spent on Christianity and dedicate it to atheism instead.

Yes, I understand completely. On the book pledge site there was a simillar troll, Rebecca. Claiming modern day miracle observations like there was no tomorrow etc. And of course trying to rubbish science while not even grasping that a lack of a scientific explanation doesn’t go anywhere in proving the existance of some god(s). @DPG
I put the following on the forum, in the (rather unsuccessful I fear) thread I created for it:
“This pledge has been successful!
You can still add your name to it, because the deadline hasn’t been reached yet.
“I will arrange for my MP to receive a copy of Richard Dawkins’ book “The God Delusion” but only if 645 other people (one per UK constituency) will do the same for other MPs.”
— J Christie
Deadline to sign up by: 31st March 2007
687 people have signed up (42 over target)
Country: United Kingdom”
.
I’m glad the target has been reached: I found the idea great (not been able to contribute much, I’m afraid). Now for getting the MP’s to actually READ the book.

Mr. Ship Cat
Pleasant to hear that you appear no longer require legal representation for your death row appeal. As to an agent for your “spill the beans, tell all .I’d put word out immediately upon your request and the news is good my purple friend. This very morning I received a reply of interest from 4K1G Too Deadly Bro Dude Community Radio.
At the moment however, my office is still haggling with the radio station proprietor to get you a better deal than the 3 mudcrabs, one baked goanna and Ikg of curried drop bear ears offered. Given the prominence of this radio station, I am now certain that it is only a matter of time before others begin pouring in from media outlets far and wide.
Yours Sincerely

Are all these animals registered?
I’m here to warn of that we are monitoring this site. We have had a number of reports as to the treatment of animals here. Particularly cats.
The ASPCA is at this moment investigating the initial imprisonment of Ships Cat, as well as this latest claim of unlawful cupboard incarceration.
These latest rumours of rabbit ear removal have now also been noted.

Oh my FSM… I particularly like this statement: “God had given men and women free will to choose whether “spontaneously to accept salvation … the Christian faith is not imposed on anyone, it is a gift, an offer to mankind”.” Is that all my free will is good for? And what kind of free will is it if not choosing Christianity has me burn in hell? Hi Rowdy :)
I don’t follow what’s happening too in depth on the religion side of things.
(erm…I haven’t read the book…and I’ve only seen a few of the old movies :)) Mostly I follow the YEC/IDiot pseudo science. But I was kinda under the impression, due to their trashing of Limbo, that the Vatican was moving away from literal conception of that book/movie! Now I worry that there are enough of the literalists to be bringing pressure? I don’t know enough about the politics of religion (other than Govts. latching on to the spin doctoring and moral points scoring offered by religion, in a bid to be seen as morally honest???) but that news piece came as a bit of a shock. Still after I thought on it for a few minutes, I thought it could be a good thing. Makes the Vatican look as bad as the “lost the plot” fundies? I hope!

The Catholic Church is certainly very politicized, and very powerful. I agree that this could be a good thing. My paternal grandmother was a staunch Catholic…apparently. After my father flew the nest, he would had nothing to with it. However there is still a strong enough contingent of involved followers amongst a few of the rellies. They don’t preach or do the “holier than thou” though. It seems a lot of recovered Catholics do have trouble shaking off the guilt trip….in my experience. That never seemed the case with my father…he was more *shrug* :))

You know what bugged me about that quiz, though? The last options for the first4 or 6 questions was too ambivalent. There was no box that just said “I don’t believe, period”. The closest was “I don’t believe in an afterlife. Or I’m not sure. Or it doesn’t matter.” Well, excuse me, I am pretty sure I know what I believe, and it does matter to me that they are turning the atheist response into a quasi-”seeking” answers thing.

Yes, I am over-sensitive. I am secular humanist, with my next highest being neo-pagan at 89%. I checked the unapplicable box for the first grouping of questions.

thats where Bryan (the eye patch martyr) goes to school, on checking out their clubs they even have a human rights watch! apparently it doesn’t apply to their own pupils? (http://buncombe.schoolwires.com/99220221144843110/site/default.asp)

Wow im still laughing, cheering, crying a little now that i’ve found out that more than me and my Dog follow this religion!! Don’t worry, i’ve started to spread it at school and my christian friends actually disowned me and wont even sit next to me in class after telling me im going to hell. How can i go somewheres i dont believe in?

Christian’s are some of the worst when it comes to strictness, and “you have to believ what i believe, ‘cuz you’re going to hell otherwise”

Hehehe, already tired of spamming the fora? Still waiting for your source that claims that the word “romantic” refers to things that have to do with Rome… Of course, if you keep digging etymologically, and stick to the “roma” part in the word, you’ll end up in Italy’s capital… How’s your Russian, any better? It might be of some consolation to you, my dear child, that the Russian “cyrillic” alphabet was derived fromm the Greek alphabet :))))

hmm…I do not spam…well, i suppose i do occasionally…
I swear to you, oh he who speaketh little english, that romantic, and romanic are the adjectives that refer to Latin and Rome..
as for my source, i do not remember where i heard the term…but it is correct nonetheless…haven’t you ever heard of the “Romance Languages”
I had never encountered Cyrillic text before…i am sorry, and it is duly noted.
