FSM Chat update

The FSM Chat experiment was a success – over 200 registered users in the first 24 hours.  But, it was too slow and it was killing the server.  So I’m going to install a faster, better chat service. I’m hoping that it will be up by tomorrow.

    Hello all,
    .
Haven’t been around much because I’ve been busy with the book pledge (to get Dawkins book sent to every UK MP). And it will succeed for sure! Only 8 to go out of 645. Probably just an hour or two now and it’s there. Woohoo!
    .
In connection with the book project various people have been lobbying organisations like the National Secular Society to spread the news among their members. As one of them I got a forwarded email from the NSS Newsletter that contained this passage:
    .
“In a notable exception from your usual high standard, I note that in the 16 March issue of Newsline, under the headline ‘Australia’s drought is because people don’t believe in Allah, says cleric’, ”
    .
Alarm!! Muslims are trying to take over our territory, explaining the drought and global warming by unbelief, but not in the FSM but in that silly Allah dude. Guys, this is a cause for great concern.
Mr. future prez, if I may give a bit of advice here: we urgently need to work on our foreign policy. I propose that as soon as you are elected, your first presidential order is to carpet bomb all major Australian cities. With spagetti and noodles, to save their souls. That sort of Muslim blasphemy cannot be tolerated and requires drastic action. Noodles raining from the sky will hopefully save them from an eternity of ugly strippers. If airplane bombing is not enough, I’m afraid there is nothing for it but to load the US’s full arsenal of ICBMs with spagetti and launch those at them. All of them, land or submarine based, doesn’t matter, all of them. Get the Strategic Air Command on it the moment you finish taking the oath.
If airial or missile bombardment isn’t enough, we’ll have to put heavy armoured divisions on the ground with their new spagetti-dispensing shells. And make the navy mine Sydney harbour with the new mines that spread spagetti on impact (a bit like confetti poppers at parties). But I truly hope it won’t come to that and that only mild spagetti bombardment will make them see sense. What are these people thinking anyway?
    .
Question to Aussie pastafarians: were you sleeping?! How could you let this slip through?! The world is being undone under your very eyes and you’re all too busy knocking each other over the head with frying pans. Get your act together people, the Apocalyse may be nigh!

    @Peter Popoff
In another bit of foreign policy thinking, I think you should give huge amounts of economic aid to Mexico. The country that gave rise to the movie genre of the ’spagetti western’ deserves our aid so much more than some other nations that allow Muslim extremist clerics to use their country for inciting rice eating and other crimes against humanity. So any preferential economic status that Australia enjoys, should be transferred to Mexico.

    Long post @DPG
    .
Um, what, the whole muslim thing? You think we haven’t noticed?
    .
    Let’s see, because of that, we have had, in the last five years;
    .
Two suicide bombings overseas, amounting to many dead Australians (Bali bombings)
    .
    Cronulla riots
    .
2 muslim terror cells, one in Melbourne, one in Sydney.
    .
Some idiotic firebrand cleric from Sydney (probably te one you quote) who calls women not in full hijab uncovered meat (and condoned the gang rape that had occurred, and the filming of the act by that comment), says we have less right to be here then he does, because many of us had ancestors who were convicts, and who slags off the country everytime he gets in front of a camera.
    .
Oh, and a recent set of charming excerpts from the exploits of lebanese youths, with such delightful messages as “Fuck off, Lebo’s only!” and “Australia’s under new management” with a picture of Oz in the colours of the lebanese flag.
    .
    .
We cannot get past the bloody islamophobia as a result of this and the insane media circus attendant on it.
    .
We know all about it, but what do you propose we do? Tell muslims they cannot practice their faith anymore? Boot them all out of the country? Ethnic cleansing perhaps? Those sort of things take us places we don’t want to go, but things like integration no longer work.
    .
We have had muslims living here peacefully since the 1800s. We have, over the course of our existance, taken in people from nearly every nation on earth, and made them our own. However, in the last 20 odd years, we have had immigrants who do not integrate, but insulate. They live together, work together, stay together. We can’t do anything about it though, because neither side is willing to make any concession to the other.
So, we have a large population of disaffected youths, whose parents come from a different world. They are angry, they are violent, and they do not associate with Australia.
    .
Our country is going to hell in a handbasket, and there is sweet fuck all we can do about it.

That’s great news about the book drive!! Congrats… I’m very proud to know someone who is working so hard on making our world a better, more well-informed place. Other than my one Brit friend and myself, I was unable to generate a lot of interest here. I think I know the wrong people… nobody cares about much these days, it seems, other than Britney Spears and other such luminaries. *grimaces in disgust.

@ DPG – Congrats on the book pledge. What an accomplishment! But, please forgive me if I’m wrong but didn’t the spagetti westerns get made in Italy?

@ The Peter – DPG makes some very good points about foreign policy. These should be included in your campaign strategy!

@ Jingles – RAmen! Didn’t the Aussie president recently tell the Muslims they could get along or get out? We were very encouraged to hear that – I hope it actually happened. We are having similar problems here in the US with the lack of integration. We are no longer the “melting pot”. For what reason I know not, people are just spineless these days. I would love to have a “live and let live” policy globally, but when these extremists are out there we can’t afford to have that attitude. It’s not pretty but it’s true. I wonder how many people will have to be blown up, raped, and whole societies torn down before some sanity kicks in and we stand up for something. *Rowdy rant over now.*

I only helped out a little with the book pledge, but yes, it is very nice to see it succeed. We are trying to have a large part of the books delivered to Westminster in a mass handover by e. g. someone from the British Humanist Association. That would hopefully create a good photo oppurtunity.
Once all is done here and it turned out a success, I think I may put the idea on some atheist-oriented message board in the US or other English language country. A copy of Sam Harris “Letters to a Christian nation’ for everyone in Congress?
    .
Spagetti ok, but westerns from Italy?

@ DPG – I’ve only seen a handful of spagetti westerns, but here’s a link to one of my favorites:
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070215/

I gave my Dad a copy of The God Delusion for Christmas. He was impressed! I haven’t read it yet. Even if we can’t get people to completely abandon the insanity that is religion, it’s worthwhile if we can get them to question even one thing about what they believe…

@Rowdy, we call them Prime Ministers…
    .
“Didn’t the Aussie president recently tell the Muslims they could get along or get out?”
    .
He might have said that to the renegade mufti, but i doubt he said it to muslims as a whole. If he did, he would have copped a king sized shit storm from anti-discrimination groups.
    .
He did however go all out against Mugabe, which is a reassuring sign that our PM might just have a spine after all…
    .
    .
@DPG, don’t stress, I’m just venting. The simple fact is, I’m scared of where we are going as a country. It’s not just the muslim nutjobs, it also includes all the “patriotic” lunatics who see this as a great chance to justify pushing what basically amounts to institutionalised racism.

    “What’s next?”
Next is Popoffs education policy. I think it will include the mandating of reading ‘The God delusion’ and ‘Letters to a Christian nation’ as part of religious education in schools. In the interest of ‘hearing both sides of the argument’ of course. That’s what the religious crowd are so fond of, as they thought that was a way to push ID into science class rooms. Let’s turn that against them. So yes, we’ll hear all sides of the argument, beginning in r.e. classes. We’ll take away a good deal of time formerly spent on Christianity and dedicate it to atheism instead.

@ DPG – That is an excellent piece of Popoff’s education policy. Will be a hard sell, but what’s life without a challenge?

I’m glad the target has been reached: I found the idea great (not been able to contribute much, I’m afraid). Now for getting the MP’s to actually READ the book.

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
