FSM Chat update

The FSM Chat experiment was a success - over 200 registered users in the first 24 hours.  But, it was too slow and it was killing the server.  So I’m going to install a faster, better chat service. I’m hoping that it will be up by tomorrow.

@ SP - RAmen! An excellent point!

@ RDPK - Ships Cat likes us wenches! Maybe if Thumper could learn to be nice to him Ships Cat wouldn’t need to defend himself!

Who knows Rowdy. But us wenches also like Ships Cat! I guess Cats and Wabbits just aren’t natural friends.. That’s ok as long as they don’t hurt each other.

  3. 263 Storm Petrel Mar 27th, 2007 at 1:24 pm

Ship’s Cat never tried to eat me, so if he could overcome his natural instinct to chase the little boird then Thumper should at least make some effort to stop locking him up all the time, even if cats and wabbits aren’t natural friends

Who cares? They taste the same, I’m told: only a small difference in the roundness of the ribs makes the difference. That’s why you should always buy a wabbit with the head still on, or at least the paws.

On the other hand…. I suppose the more ridiculous the comments and the stand the better :)

@ Wench Nikkiee - GAH! Oh my FSM… I particularly like this statement: “God had given men and women free will to choose whether “spontaneously to accept salvation … the Christian faith is not imposed on anyone, it is a gift, an offer to mankind”.” Is that all my free will is good for? And what kind of free will is it if not choosing Christianity has me burn in hell? Oh well, in the sage words of Billy Joel, “I’d rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints, the sinners are much more fun.”

    Hi Rowdy :)
I don’t follow what’s happening too in depth on the religion side of things.
(erm…I haven’t read the book…and I’ve only seen a few of the old movies :)) Mostly I follow the YEC/IDiot pseudo science. But I was kinda under the impression, due to their trashing of Limbo, that the Vatican was moving away from literal conception of that book/movie! Now I worry that there are enough of the literalists to be bringing pressure? I don’t know enough about the politics of religion (other than Govts. latching on to the spin doctoring and moral points scoring offered by religion, in a bid to be seen as morally honest???) but that news piece came as a bit of a shock. Still after I thought on it for a few minutes, I thought it could be a good thing. Makes the Vatican look as bad as the “lost the plot” fundies? I hope!

We may still all be going to Norway after all?

  10. 270 Rowdy Wench Mar 27th, 2007 at 7:42 pm

@ Wench Nikkiee - Hiya! Sorry - should’ve said that earlier…I am a recovering Catholic, thank the FSM! But, I have gone out of my way to know nothing about what they are doing for long enough now that I haven’t a clue! Sorry to not be able to help! The Catholic Church is certainly very politicized, and very powerful. I agree that this could be a good thing. I can’t imagine that most people could agree that hell is an actual place, and anyway how in the world does this guy know? Has he been there for FSM’s sake? Ranting a bit…*Rowdy takes deep breath*

    I hear Norway is beautiful!

Back to folding laundry; will check back soon.

Have any of you seen the Belief-O-Matic? It asks you 20 questions and then says which religion you are most like. The blasphemous part is that there’s no Church of the FSM! Though everyone in my family got Unitarian Universalist, maybe that’s the Church of the FSM in noodly disguise. Google Belief O Matic; it’s fun!

  12. 272 Storm Petrel Mar 28th, 2007 at 3:44 am

I got secular humanist, the funny thing is, I was raised Catholic, went to a Catholic school, and the only religion lower on my list was Jehovah’s Witness

  13. 273 Wench Nikkiee Mar 28th, 2007 at 4:37 am

My paternal grandmother was a staunch Catholic…apparently. After my father flew the nest, he would had nothing to with it. However there is still a strong enough contingent of involved followers amongst a few of the rellies. They don’t preach or do the “holier than thou” though. It seems a lot of recovered Catholics do have trouble shaking off the guilt trip….in my experience. That never seemed the case with my father…he was more *shrug* :))

  14. 274 Alchemist Mar 28th, 2007 at 9:49 am

Wow - that was an interesting little quiz - seems I’m more neo-pagan than secular-humanist. Now where did I put my robes?

  15. 275 Gnocci Man Mar 28th, 2007 at 10:50 am

It says that I’m 100% secular-humanist, 92% Unitarian Universalist, but sadly not very pagan. Ahhh well…
    Fun quiz, it’s recommended.

  16. 276 Wench Beth Mar 28th, 2007 at 11:14 am

Hey, Gnocci Man and Storm Petrel, let’s start up our own sect. I took the quiz and got 100% secular-humanist as well. But I, too, am personally offended that Pastafarianism was not listed because I would have received a 101% score in that case ;)

  17. 277 Jean Bart Mar 28th, 2007 at 2:22 pm

    1. Secular Humanism 100%
    2. Unitarian Universalism 94%
    3. Liberal Quaker 78%

    26. Roman Catholic 17%
    27. Jehova’s Witness 15%

  18. 278 Jean Bart Mar 28th, 2007 at 2:24 pm

Oh, and I’ve got a R.C. background as well, even still sing in a parish choir (albeit for social and practical reasons…)

  20. 280 Iron gill Kidd Mar 28th, 2007 at 2:37 pm

    I got the weirdest answers….
    1. Liberal Quakers (100%)
    2. Unitarian Universalism (94%)
    3. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (88%)
    4. Reform Judaism (84%)
    5. Orthodox Quaker (84%)
    6. Neo-Pagan (83%)
    ….
    24. Jehovah’s Witness (41%)
    25. Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist) (40%)
    26. Eastern Orthodox (38%)
    27. Roman Catholic (38%)

How the heck did Quaker get into there? According to this I’m not as Jewish as I thought I was! Heh. (And apparently there’s more Scientologist in me then there is Roman Catholic. Go figure!)

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
