Bugger… one more like that and the light goes out (local saying).

@Batman Mar 12th, 2007 at 12:38 pm “@Gary InOla I don’t know what the FSM thinks of it, but I hate it too. I set my clock BACK an hour… because I am an idiot when I am tired, and ended up being two hours late for work.”

DST… I thought that only existed in the countries that had been under German occupation during WWII, who started that “Summer Hour” and “Winter Hour” in Belgium anyway…

    @PFY
Looking at some of the other postings from here it appears that Acts 1:18 discribes a seperate fate for Judas, one that has nothing to do with his suicide by hanging….but I too have not yet had the chance to look it up in the Bible.
    .
Are you aware that the modern translations of the New Testament involves a little over 5,000 original sources, with a total of over 200,000 discripiancies, most of them minor ones, but some very big ones?

“In my opinion, ……………These ministries have profited tremendously off of people or twisted the original words of the bible to excuse themselves from what they condemn others for while commiting the same “sin” or “abominations” they accuse & condemn others for.”
    .
Hmmm, this could be dangerous PFY :) as I agree with you!

The account of the death of Judas being described differently in account of Acts 1:18 and Matthew 27:5 i can explain and understand myself, but i am not sure that my answer would satisify anyone who may not accept that Luke as author of Acts may have used literary license to describe the death in a more descriptive manner. I offer the following from a link i found that helped me articulate a little better the difference in the description of death:
    .
Matthew 27:5-8 says, “So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.” The chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.” So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners. That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day.” Acts 1:18-19 says, “With the reward he got for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.” Which is correct? Did Judas hang himself or did he fall? Did Judas buy the field or did the priests buy the field?
    .
Judas hung himself in the potters field (Matthew 27:5) and then after his body decayed and bloated, evidently the rope broke and he burst into pieces on the land of the potters field (Acts 1:18-19). Acts 1:18-19 presumes Judas’ hanging…as a man falling down in a field does not result in his body bursting open. Only decomposition and a fall from a height could cause a body to burst open. When Judas threw the thirty pieces of silver down, the priests took the money and used it to buy the potter’s field (Matthew 27:7), not knowing that Judas was going to hang himself there. Judas may not have purchased the field himself, but it was the money Judas received for betraying Jesus that purchased the field.
    .

As a believer i accept this based on other scripture supporting a death in exchange for money that point to this in Zechariah 11:12-13 so i dont think i can provide any argument unless you accept the difference in a literary sense, and can point to other scripture as well that provide evidence for me this is true ( i guess faith is the better word) rather than a concrete explanation you probably would want.

Hi. Strangely I don’t feel any temptation to flame you. Your last post about false teachers was excellent IMHO.

For me, you’re a welcome addition to the site and a very worthy advocate of your belief system. I don’t agree with all you say but I do like the way you say it :)

WWhere is the part that says Judas did his friend the waco carpenter a favour and turned him over to the authorities because he asked and begged him to do it. and that Judas and he were homosexual lovers? and that Judas was pissed that he lost his friend and found that everyone was mad at him?

    @ PeterPopoff

I dont mind people busting on me, i do the same and have made an art of that and a little sarcasm. I was in the Army for 5 years and partied/prayed to the beer volcano and went to every club in Seattle, central Jersey and NY, including the time i went to college. Im from Jersey as well with 4 other brothers so i can definitely give n take!! I have pretty thick skin so no harm taken:)
    .
    .

    You’re from Jersey? Oh crap!
You and your brothers aren’t going to show up here in a black Cadillac, smoking Cohibas, and pull a Bronx Tale on us I hope? Heh heh,
Actually, I’m in Upstate “western” NY.
I’ve been to Jersey a time or five however.
    .

I’ll assume you were stationed in Seattle?
Yeah this site can be fun. Myself and a few of the others here have strong religious backgrounds. And have decided against faith for various reasons. Speaking for myself, I’m happy for anybody that does believe in something. It doesn’t work for me. But I sure as hell won’t try to take something from someone. The only time I have a problem is when somebody thinks they have a “duty” or a “right” to impose on others. That just doesn’t set with me. That’s what this FSM thing was based on too.
Those whackos in Kansas trying to sneak the almighty into their public school system.
    .
    Anyway, nice to meet you!
Be aware though, that I drive a white Town Car, with a red canvas roof (no… I really do) so, if you try converting people here, me and brothers just might show up! Smoking Cohibas and packing! heh heh
    Take care friend,
    peace,

  8. 328 Religiously Confused Scientist... Mar 13th, 2007 at 7:35 pm

This really made me think - The Bible cannot be used as evidance that God created the Earth, that Jesus ever existed, or that it is the one right religion because if you think about it… The people who wrote the Bible were the same people who believed the world was flat. They were wrong about that. Could they be wrong about God, Heaven and Hell..?

The Bible is merely a book of Chinese whispers and stories about magick, and miracles, yet its a “sin” to believe in Wiccan magick, vampires, faeries, even the FSM. I grew up in a Catholic environment, and I can understand why Christians reject other theories, and that is because they are brainwashed and scared. They have been bullied by the Church, and threatened to Burn in Hell for all of eternity if they question anything.

I don’t know what is right, but I resent SRV & Wolf (I assume they are the same person) for telling FSM followers “to get fucked” - Thats not very Christian-like. (WWJD?) SRV I think u should mind ur own business, if u choose to believe, so be it. But do not try to guilt and harass others that disagree. Christians like u are selfish, arrogant and ignorant. Stop being a bully, u have no proof just like the FSM - so neither can be right or wrong. Learn to accept other opinons and theories.

Well I say that YOU’LL regret your beliefs when you’re denied entry to our kingdom of beer-y paradise.

  10. 330 Storm Petrel Mar 14th, 2007 at 3:27 am

    @ religiously confused scientist
But the FSM does have proof! It’s not like those other silly myths at all, we have a whole evidence section

  11. 331 scribble Mar 14th, 2007 at 3:49 am

At least we can admit that the FSM planted scientific evidence to make us think the earth wasn’t created 6000 years ago. This goes along perfectly with science, which is continually convincing “scientists” and “educated people” that “evolution” is true. How do they explain that? They don’t, they just ignore it. (Or sometimes they say Noah’s Ark messed up the fossil record. This is what Christians call logic.)

    Given that:
    a. the bible has to be true, no matter what.
    b. the fossil record disagrees with the bible about our origin.

Then obviously: the fossil record is not accurate.

Given that: the fossil record is wrong

Then obviously: they need to come up with a lame excuse.

Given that: they need a lame excuse.

Then obviously: Noah is the lamest excuse of all.

FSMism doesn’t use this type of logic.
    We use science and reason.

    Ken Hovind’s Gospel:
    .
“And lo, did the herbivorous dinosaurs feed upon the cabbages,
and the funk in the hold did become unbearable,
so Noah did send the herbivorous dinosaurs from the Ark.
“And lo, did the carnivorous dinosaurs feed upon the unicorns,
and the other animals did become unsettled,
So Noah did send the carnivorous dinosaurs from the Ark.”
    .
In the interests of family-friendliness, we will not discuss the time that Noah caught Mr. Gopher and Mrs Duck under the stairs…

What a great website! Came across this as I was preparing for my apologetics class tonight at church. As a former agnostic, skeptic, heathen and generally living like there’s no tomorrow guy, I spent years researching Jesus- hitorically, theologically, and through archaelogy and prophecy - trying to undergird my unbelief. Instead, I became a believer. More than that, my apologetic studies have allowed me to lecture in some of the most hallowed institutions of higher learning and debate many skeptics.
I will say this..I respect people firm in their non-belief more than “believers” who are mired in doubt and live like “hell” while condemning the rest of the world.

LOve you guys– I’ve tried spaghetti but in spite of pepcid AC it still gives me indigestion.

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
