Religious Discrimination

Bryan Killian, a high school student in North Buncombe, North Carolina was suspended for coming to school dressed as a pirate.
But the disciplinary action has provoked controversy – because the student says that the ban violates his rights, as the pirate costume is part of his religion.
Read about it in the Metro or the Citizen-Times.

Ken Miller’s “The Collapse of Intelligent Design”

This is a very interesting discussion on the subject of Intelligent Design by Brown University’s Kenneth Miller. It’s just under two hours long, and if you have the time I highly recommend watching it. There is even a mention of Pastafarianism at around 90 minutes.

FSM Chat update

The FSM Chat experiment was a success - over 200 registered users in the first 24 hours.  But, it was too slow and it was killing the server.  So I’m going to install a faster, better chat service. I’m hoping that it will be up by tomorrow.

paris fsm sighting

I spotted this curious Flying Spaghetti Monster-like creature in Paris… It doesn’t have meatballs, but it sure has a pirate hat (maybe it’s a vegan version?)! Hope you like it :-).

official missionary transportation for the church of the flying spaghetti monster

Do you guys like this boat?

(you can’t really tell, but I crossed out the name of the boat, and wrote “church of the fsm”)

(note - in picture 2, there used to be a lady standing on the deck, but I photoshopped her out. You can still sort of see her legs if you […]

mysterious sand formation resembles flying spaghetti monster

Hi, Bobby. I’ve enjoyed your site, and appreciate your moral goal and Swiftian efforts.
While travelling in France I visited the Dune du Pyla, the highest sand dune in Europe. It was a beautiful place and walking the length of it was peaceful and meditative — all the more so when I drew, er, […]

you want proof

I’ve read some of the posts that you pea brained losers have come up with as to available scientific data and you are just full of shit. You obviously haven’t read anything by William Dembski and fail to consider the abundance of evidence as to ID being as valid a scientific theory […]

Blackbeard’s ship to be excavated

A shipwreck off the North Carolina coast believed to be that of notorious pirate Blackbeard could be fully excavated in three years.
Read about it here.

Controversial Origins

The UC San Diego’s The Guardian has a good article on the Intelligent Design movement / controversy.
Intelligent design assumes that the world is so complex, that it is so statistically unlikely for humans to have formed, that God or some other higher power must have designed it. Even assuming that the two ideas are equally […]

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
