I’m very against this site. I know you’ve stated that it’s not a spoof
of Christianity, though I don’t know why you bothered saying that bit.
It’s as though you’ve reverted to high school- If athiests and
intellectuals don’t have anything better to do than make fun of people
with genuine beliefs, maybe they ought to go back to their evolution
books and take comfort in the big bang or primordial soup. It breaks
my heart that this is what the world has come to. As if there weren’t
enough religious controversy and war in the world… why can’t you
work toward promoting understanding between people, rather than
exploiting idiots and making fun? It’s this kind of mockery that
caused the crisis with the Danish cartoons.
The basic premise of religion, especially Christianity, is a God who
cannot be seen or fathomed in our normal way of seeing. If we could so
define Him, He wouldn’t be God, but an idol we had made. If Jesus
could be defined intellectually, He would just be another man.
Clearly, religion doesn’t always pan out as God intended it to. When I
claim to have a real relationship with Jesus, do you think I’m making
it up? That My Jesus is just a figment of my imagination, and the
things He has done for me are pure coincidence? I guess it comes back
to, unless you believe, you will not understand.
You are clearly a smart man with a lot of creativity. I want to
encourage you to put that brilliance and work ethic into doing
something positive for the world as it is now… perhaps helping in
the fields of medicine or diplomacy, or combatting poverty and
disease. Until people’s basic needs are met, it doesn’t signify much
to ask them to believe anything.
Sincerely,
Kate

“why can’t you work toward promoting understanding between people, rather than

I can see you are a person concerned about real problems in the world and that’s good. But you think religion helps people understand each other? You think it helped the obviously religious people who crashed jets into the towers? Religion is the problem. All the way from Jim Jones to Bin Laden, to timothy McViegh to Bush. It’s hard to find a problem in the world that isn’t tracable to religion.
That’s why I would make fun of it.

@Kate “Clearly, religion doesn’t always pan out as God intended it to”
So YOU know what your god intended, surely, otherwise you couldn’t state this. More people state that they know what “Jesus” and “God” know. How do they manage? Tell us the secret!
Among serious atheists, those who mock religious folk are the minority. Over time, however, more and more people are seeing that no amount of facts can break through the protective layer of religious dogma. This is where the insults come in. In my life, I know of at least two occasions where I stopped doing something stupid and irrational after being taunted. It’s not the kindest of solutions, but it certainly does work.

Yes.
Kate, aka Peter H.
Your on a roll this weekend.
I just want to comment on this…
“If athiests and

.
We don’t make fun of people with “genuine beliefs”.
We make fun of morons, that try to push “their genuine beliefs”
on others.
Why don’t you follow through with one of your posts.
Some of us, are kind of smart and growed up too!

@Kate
I’m a bit curious. You say “My Jesus is just a figment of my imagination, and the
things He has done for me are pure coincidence?” Do actually mean that Jesus has done things for you or that the belief in Jesus has done things for you? Or do you not make the distinction?
“If athiests and intellectuals don’t have anything better to do than make fun of people
with genuine beliefs, maybe they ought to go back to their evolution
books and take comfort in the big bang or primordial soup.”
so this site is only atheists and intellectuals? then how is is exploiting idiots? and does that mean that only atheists are intellectuals?
