Yeah, I know it’s satire

Yeah, I know it’s satire.  I’m an atheist, and I hate stupid, narrow-minded fundies as much as anyone.  But honestly, this joke has run its course.  People’s lives can actually get ripped apart by Pastafarianism, though I know you don’t really believe it.  Not as many as by organized religion, but organized religion can’t really be stopped except by massive revolution, whereas Pastafarianism can be.  It was funny for a while, but you don’t seem to realize (actually, some of you probably do) that no one cares anymore, that all the hate mail is faked.  Stop laughing at the rest of the world, and realize that you’re not better than the people who post your hatemail; it’s a /joke/.  And your religion has lost its humor.  So shut up when talking to people you think are stupid.  That was the /real /meaning of the “atheists are so arrogant” post.  He was pointing out that /you/ were so arrogant in believing that there were really that many stupid people in the world.  Some of you, I am now sure, know that all this hatemail is faked.  Tell the others, and get everyone to stop acting such a fool.

Hmmm… what are those books about? Would they be in the public library or would I have to buy them at the bookstore? I have honestly never heard of them.
    .
Do you think that, if there was a God, he would actually say sex was bad? OR do you think that was just an idea put forth by people whose spouses had been unfaithful or who never got asked out? If you look at the no sex AT ALL rule for the Catholic clergy, seems like the minds that came up with that must have been very lonely people, and perhaps they started the church as we know it today simply because there was nowhere else they could go to fit in and be accepted?

You need to read (or listen to) the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy (by Douglas Adams).
You should be able to download it somewhere it was a radio series.
    .
Radio was like the internet but it wasn’t interactive, and there isn’t any writing or pictures.
    .
There’s reference to Oolong Colluphids trilogy of philosophical block busters that Booty listed.
    .
    Were God went wrong.
Some more of Gods greatest mistakes
    and
Who is this God person anyway.
    .
It gets a very passing mention but whenever we get on to the ‘why did god fuck this or that up’ debate I always think of them. Douglas Adams was a great atheist and managed very well to gentley (but utterly) redicule religion in all sorts of ways.
    .
Most dedicated followers of the books (e.g. Booty and Sherlock) will remember the titles so I mentioned them.
    .
I just so want to read them but unfortunately they are a fiction.
So if you see copies at book fairs – grab them. I’ll pay you later.

Let’s try changing the IP address of your computer. Still browsing this from work? Most computers in companies/universities get their IP address asigned from DHCP servers. If your setup allows you to manually override the TCP/IP settings, then you could try ‘borrowing’ an IP address from a computer that is now not being used. You can’t use the same IP address as someone else, so be careful that you don’t overlap with other used computers. Your sys admins would not like it if they found out.

It will always require bits of tinkering. If you’re ever online from your office on a quiet day and I happen to be online then we could try a bit of digital vandalism perhaps. As a discrete starter, let’s find out what your IP address is. Go to the website
    .
    http://www.whatismyip.com
    .
That echoes back your IP. Email that to me and I’ll see if I can ping your computer. That won’t give an immediate solution but it will let me gather up some bits of info.

    @Anyone
I’m having trouble with connecting to the humor. I see it as funny though. Idiots are always funny. I went to that cChristian site that thumper went to and found a lot of people in pain without a clue about how to think their way out of it. These people are going to spend a lifetime dealing with their unnecessary pain. It’s like they have the equivalent awareness of a cat. What can I say to my cat that’s going to make a difference to his quality of life? O.K., so I’ve had a couple of glasses and maybe I’m a little too empathic, but now these people just seem sad to me.
Maybe they are all the ‘enemy of reason’, but it seems that some of them are clueless without religion. (I’m thinking maria on the “arrogance” thread)
How can I deal with that and still oppose the affect they have on the rest of society? I don’t know.
    Suggestions?

@ bill – I agree with you that those people are sad, and also that we should oppose the effect they have on society. All human conflict comes from fear, and religion does nothing to alleviate fear. All people are born with the capacity to think; over their lifetime they are trained that they cannot. People develop really dysfunctional sets of core beliefs about themselves and get stuck in their pain and misery (I was one of those people for years). I do empathize with where they are because I was there for so long. But at the same time I understand how destructive it is to see the world through all that pain and I know that people can decide to be better if they just will. I don’t think I’ve done a damned thing to actually answer your question! Flying by the seat of my pants here…

Hey, ever think that people dont think this is a joke? Anybody can make up a crappy religion, trust me, ive thought up about 6, but to get this one into mainstream media and actually have a gospel and stuff, that takes something else. People actually have to believe in this stuff for it to actually be known. Jsut look at scientology. Wtf? It’s based off a series of novels. The sad part is, this actually makes more sense than scientology. Who knows, maybe i believe it a little. So stop criticizing some people’s beliefs, because if you do, ill sue you.

@ everyone – Told my Dad about the FSM website (got him the Dawkins book for Christmas) and then told him the other day about being invited to join the private group. Yay, I’m excited! Anyway, he sent this back to me:

Mom read your enote to me, then she made the remark that she thinks that you are silly to read the stuff on FSM. I will not tell her that I have told you this, but you need to know. She just will not let you have any independent thought or stray from her fold so to speak. I think she should be proud that you use your own brain to make your own judgements. 99% of people will not think for themselves, it is SO painful.

Myself I am glad that you look for alternative thought, if the big “majority” thinks something is good or right, that is when I start looking for the flaws in their thinking.

Hopefully he doesn’t read the site very much and won’t know that I posted that! But it seemed important to share.

These people are sad, Bill. And sadder yet, they are spreading their bullshit into the third world where the population is most vulnerable. They readily admit to this. Jeff, the patriarch of this sad little group of fundies, is based in Guatemala. He travels the world proselytizing to the unwashed and ignorant masses. He is a shyster. A con man. Most of his website is dedicated to fund raising. He is a mean-spirited, bigoted, narrow-minded lowlife that preys on the innocent, the weak, the poor, and the vulnerable.

Your dad sounds very wise, and you’re lucky to have him support and trust you so completely. His remark about pain being the reason people don’t always think for themselves is really true.
    .
    @Bill
Your post has made me feel a little guilty for having a go at the Christian delusionists on that site. You’re right, they do all seem sad. As much as a part of me laughs like a loon everytime I read some of their remarks, I can see how the problems they all seem to have make them turn to religion for answers.
    .
I guess, if they are completely miserable yet unable to fix the problems or face them alone, then they turn to the solace of a heavenly father to solve all their problems for them. Lacking the mental abilities to think for themselves makes them a little bit handi-capped, and I don’t make fun of handi-capped people, as a rule. “Religion arises from pain and loss…”, “the alienation, the humiliation, and the greed that fuel religious fervor must be addressed if [religion] is to lose it’s power of control over others.”
    .
At the same time, it isn’t the people there who we are directly targeting, but rather the admins and preachers and such who use the “word of god” to make the people who come there for solace feel small and weak. The one man Jeff Mills actually called someone a pussy for a very stupid reason… AND THEN SAID HE THOUGHT IT MEANT CAT!!… and some posts I have read flat out tell people that they are going to hell or that they are too busy worrying about themselves to solve the issue. Really, for those people, I have no sympathy… seems to me they are using their positions to make others feel like shite.
    .

No true. The difference is that the people who come here (CoFSM) were smart enough in the first place to understand the difference between sh*t and sawdust…and no one here has tried to tell them otherwise.

“He is a mean-spirited, bigoted, narrow-minded lowlife that preys on the innocent, the weak, the poor, and the vulnerable.”
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I fully agree.

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
