Yeah, I know it’s satire

Yeah, I know it’s satire.  I’m an atheist, and I hate stupid, narrow-minded fundies as much as anyone.  But honestly, this joke has run its course.  People’s lives can actually get ripped apart by Pastafarianism, though I know you don’t really believe it.  Not as many as by organized religion, but organized religion can’t really be stopped except by massive revolution, whereas Pastafarianism can be.  It was funny for a while, but you don’t seem to realize (actually, some of you probably do) that no one cares anymore, that all the hate mail is faked.  Stop laughing at the rest of the world, and realize that you’re not better than the people who post your hatemail; it’s a /joke/.  And your religion has lost its humor.  So shut up when talking to people you think are stupid.  That was the /real /meaning of the “atheists are so arrogant” post.  He was pointing out that /you/ were so arrogant in believing that there were really that many stupid people in the world.  Some of you, I am now sure, know that all this hatemail is faked.  Tell the others, and get everyone to stop acting such a fool.

bbctol

Reputo takes the old cowardly route all the way:

“their[sic] is some proof of intelligent design” but don’t cite it

“why not try Christianity. You might as well cover all the bases, or get the most chances by covering them all.” If that’s the case, why not try Hinduism, Islam, etc., too? I’m sure the deities of all those religions, if they existed, would be delighted to know you joined up to “cover all the bases” rather than from genuine belief.

“And I’m not going to bother reading replies,” probably because you’re afraid to consider alternative to your own arrogance.

  3. 923 Dread Wench L'TUAE Mar 9th, 2007 at 6:26 pm

@reputo- I really don’t care if you’re not coming back, I’ll reply anyway. HA!
Excuse me, but what semblance of provable proof does ID offer? Give it to me, come on. I’ll knock your dogma on it’s ass with my superior logic.
And not bothering to read replies to something you wrote is just plain rude.

    @reputo
Hi, My names Leah and I’m a exchristian, So I gave your religion a try for most of my young life, until I was 17 old (clean for 4 years, go me) and I have a few points to share with you. Christainity, in its many forms is based on a book of nonsense, and this most likely goes for other religions too, but I’m going to stick the one I know, the main reason I gave up on religion and the whole god thing is because it makes no reasonable sense, A God who is Just and Merciful? Who is kind and good but is responisble for satan and the state of sin we are in?(apparently, I don’t feel all to sinful, but hey thats just me) Who is perfect but jealous? that just a start both testaments are full of morally deplorable behavior both from god and jesus and their spokespeople, bigotry, us and them thinking, slavery, sexism, rape and child abuse is all ok in the bibles point of view, yes I know that many religous people don’t think that these things are really all that acceptable, but they claim to worship a God that does! All this site really aims to do is mirror the hilarity of religous beliefs, but while talking about another religion that doesn’t cause believers brains to shut down as soon as they see it. I think that helping people understand that while believing in a God is not a bad thing is and of its self the kind of unreasoning belief that gives rise to things like creationism is, is a good thing.

“So no one actually believes in this anyways. However, for you atheists and people who pretend to believe in this person, if you’re going believe in religion, try Christianity. You atheists are logical, right? You believe that when you die, you simply die.”
    .
So Reputo, what qualifications do have to decide whether someone genuinely believes in that the FSM is the one and only creator? Perhaps I could say the same for your religious beliefs. I mean you couldn’t possible believe in something so ludicrous as Christianity could you? Surely your belief is feigned! One could only be paying lip service to something so obviously metaphorical and fictional as the xtian holy BooK.
No sane being would take such an illogical and contradictory series of tales to be fact.
    .
“You believe that when you die, you simply die.”
Indeed not! The righteous followers of the FSM are lifted by His Noodley Appendages to spend eternity in His wondrous Beer Volcano and Stripper Heaven :)

“And I’m not going to bother reading replies”
Is OK Reputo, your attendance is not required. We can make a complete fool of you (which your post warrants) in your absence :)
May you be touched by His Noodley Appendage and see the truth.

Third post in response to Reputo….I’m in a good mood from reading some other god bothering BS today Reputo, so think yourself lucky :)
Are you familiar with the term “mental masturbation” at all?
You see, my experience on these threads with previous “mental masturbators”, such as yourself, is that they can never resist coming back to read any replies to their self flagellating wanks. Your intention to indeed come back and read responses is evidenced by your attempt, in your statement, to cover yourself against any.
Again…May you be touched by rational thought.

    Ah Reputo,
“…You might as well cover all the bases, or get the most chances by covering them all. Not on something that has no chance. And I’m not going to bother reading replies, so this is all I had to say…”
    .
Firstly to echo Nikkiee (a fine wench if ever there was) i bet you read this, and now you can’t prove me wrong without confirming you have and confirming me right! ah the exquisite paradox of being hoisted by your own petard. In case you do read this i would like to taunt you first as a close minded, irrational, IDiotic, repressed loon. I bet you secretly admire us and wish you were worthy of a pirate patch don’t you?..
    .
secondly, cover all the bases? so you should believe because it’s playing the odds? the old theological insurance scam. i thought god could see your intentions? in which case who’s going to burn the hottest? a pastafarian who is upright, sincere and honest, does no harm and uses his brain to best effect. or a liar of a Christian who “believes” and goes through the motions for effect and because they’re scared to make a decision? bet your baths hotter than mine pal, pass the brimstone, i need to scratch my back…

  14. 934 Pastafreemason Mar 14th, 2007 at 5:58 am

Im a Christian, a Freemason and a Pastafarian. (wow waits for thunderbolts flames and all sorts from above below and beside) Just cos I believe in God, dont mean I belive in creationism or “Inteligent design” just means I believe that theres something out there, and that that jesus guy had some good ideas before his followers fucked him over.
Do I follow the modern church? no Id rather eat pasta drink rum and sing yo ho ho. and thats what I do when I can. oh and attend masonic meetings in secret.

  15. 935 DutchPastaGuy Mar 16th, 2007 at 8:04 am

    @Pastafreemason
Welcome to the Church of the FSM. Glad to hear you’re not into ID, creationsim etc and see Jesus as just someone with good ideas (heck, even Dawkins applauded Jesus for that). That just leaves me with the “believe that theres something out there” bit. Many here won’t go along with that. But please hang around anyway.

  17. 937 jonathan M Mar 18th, 2007 at 12:35 am

Ok .. i didn’t read all of the posts but at a guess i would say they go in about the same general direction.

To some people FSM might not be a real religion but to some it may be. What does it matter, can’t we all just believe how we want to? I’ve liked the religion part of FSM because of its originality. I like to write and therefore can find a good story in everything .

I’m an atheist but i still like the ideas of religion, its been a convenient way of controlling the masses for the past couple thousand years, and i personally think that all of the other religions have become corrupted in their roots. For one they quite often bring things to extremes (i know not everyone does) and (i think) misunderstand some of their own things.

Secondly if you look at all of the churches and stuff (especially catholic) then you can tell that quite a lot of that money their collecting from people doesn’t go towards the important stuff. If the pope is the ambassador of heaven or w/e then i don’t think he needs all of Vatican city to live in, he should have spiritual comfort in a shoe box right? This money could have been put to a better use, like say, hmm i don’t know, eradicating hunger problems and say, i dunno, maybe providing education to third world countries and such, and i mean educate not brain wash or convert. The third major problem with most religions is that they refuse to conform to the new world. And the final problem i got with most organized religions is that more blood has been shed in the name of some divine being then any other reason.

All of the reasons i dislike most religions are the same reasons i like Pastafarianism, it’s fresh and conforms to the new world, your not spending money so some fat priest can live in comfort, there’s nothing really extreme about this religion, and last i checked we’re not planning any wars or inquisitions, or any such things.

Pastafarianism is a fun and current religion that sticks it to the older religions’ monopolies on human thoughts and emotions. If you think it’s just a joke then think that, i personally see it as a slightly more interesting answer to the question “what do you believe in?” then “no.” I believe in free expression, and i also believe that you can express your selves without being mean about it.

  19. 939 Pastafreemason Mar 19th, 2007 at 9:10 am

Whoot thanks for the welcome. I think what I might believe in is what I think Albert E called the prime force the cause of Big Bang or whatever, be it sentient or not, dont matter, dont care, it works for me heck it could have been the FSM as far as we know ( I wasnt there at the time so cant comment)
Yes I am a lizzard creature thing that you talked about, I know the secret of the grail,(it was a tommy tippy sipper cup for baby jesus) and we have weird rituals that make goths look sunny and bright (OK the last one is true)

    .
But with a sense of humour so that’s ok :)
I was once invited to a local lodge by an ex-colleague, we’d been talking about it for ages. I’ll admit I found it very interesting but felt I might burst into a fit of the giggles at any time - most likely during the initiation (didn’t fancy the hoodwink and noose either) so I didn’t pursue it.
Horses for courses as they say around here.
    .
    Good to see you back!

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
