Yeah, I know it’s satire

Yeah, I know it’s satire.  I’m an atheist, and I hate stupid, narrow-minded fundies as much as anyone.  But honestly, this joke has run its course.  People’s lives can actually get ripped apart by Pastafarianism, though I know you don’t really believe it.  Not as many as by organized religion, but organized religion can’t really be stopped except by massive revolution, whereas Pastafarianism can be.  It was funny for a while, but you don’t seem to realize (actually, some of you probably do) that no one cares anymore, that all the hate mail is faked.  Stop laughing at the rest of the world, and realize that you’re not better than the people who post your hatemail; it’s a /joke/.  And your religion has lost its humor.  So shut up when talking to people you think are stupid.  That was the /real /meaning of the “atheists are so arrogant” post.  He was pointing out that /you/ were so arrogant in believing that there were really that many stupid people in the world.  Some of you, I am now sure, know that all this hatemail is faked.  Tell the others, and get everyone to stop acting such a fool.

RAmen,
bbctol

    Until everyone on earth has heard of his grate (as in grated cheese) noodleyness then the fun farce is not over, I still have people I meet daily who are amused by pastaferianism, not to mention the idea of a giant flying spaghetti monster and tons of others who have never heard of Arr! Wonderful god! Just because someone as simple minded as you comes along who can’t get the depth of this “joke” it doesn’t mean that other people still find it very a refreshing knee (I’m I had one on this wooden leg) slapper. Also, there are still a ton of bigoted idiots out there; saying that knowledge has eliminated them all is ignorant. Acting such a fool… I wish people had better grammar then lousy rap songs.

    @DutchPastaGuy
    I actually am just starting my PhD program, so I haven’t picked a research area yet, although I’m leaning (heavily) towards condensed matter theory.
    @Rowdy Wench
    I think I was not clear, I just created a profile on that fundie xtian site everyone was posting on, saying that I worked at a xtian bookstore. I thought it might be a fun persona.
    Thankfully, I don’t really work in a xtian bookstore, those places are a little creepy.
    @alchemist
    thanks for the welcome! :)
    @everyone who said hi
    sorry for the late replies, I was running office hours, and had to help some students that didn’t know how to graph a straight line.

    @Physics Wench
    Wonderfull! Condensed matter is my area of research (started my career as a materials scientist). Keep your eye open for Navigator Spider too. He and I, along with a couple of wenches (bless the FSM) will run a science vessel in our soon-to-be purchased/commandeered pirate fleet. Although once we get our fleet the focus will likely shift a bit. Maybe we’ll go into something spooky like mind control, developing ways to make people hunger for pasta all day. Whooohahahah

    @ Physics Wench - doh! I feel silly. And better about your situation! Hahaha.

    @ DPG - Not much time to post, but wanted to tell you that my husband and I both heard while growing up Catholic “Don’t ask questions, just accept it on faith”. Annoying, eh?

    @Physics Wench & DPG @ anyone else who can play fundie or athiest :)
    .
    DPG. Wouldn’t it be fun if some folks who can play xtian (those of us with a background etc) could play on the threads when a couple of atheists and pastafarians make use change our affiliation!
    Especially if I can get my troll to fit in there :)
    .
    Just posted again on the thread - lets see what jeebus tells me to do today :)

    Absolutely. The non-thinking aspect is one of my strongest objections to religion (as ranted before, so for pure laziness just the link:

    I really really believe that Nashdude is certifiably insane. Really. Either that, or he has been skipping his medication.

    or he’s joking (hopefully)

    @Alchemist
    Nice idea to ‘convert in public’. Although I would like to wait with this untill we feel the game is almost up. I’d certainly like to get some responses from real xtians first before we do something that is likely to expose everything. I expect my latest reply to midget may get me a warning, it’s probably the strongest one over there sofar. If this ‘how to talk to an atheist friend’ remains quiet from the xtian side I may at some point call out ‘You wanted to talk to atheists, well here I am, TALK!’.

  12. 892 Alchemist Mar 1st, 2007 at 4:19 pm

    @DPG - Agreed - milk it until it squeaks :)
    I still think a final bow of the atheist converting the xtians could be fun - but only as the last resort :)
    .
    If we can actually become welcome there??? Wow. To good an opportunity to miss IMHO :)

    daniel might have a chat to you in a minute :)

  14. 894 Alchemist Mar 1st, 2007 at 4:47 pm

    @Batman. Not a problem :) I’ll even go a few more for you :) Good luck!

    Perhaps the good dr. Popoff could lighten up the spirit further with a complimentary supply of miracle water? How about it PP (haven’t heard from you for a while, please come back soon when time permits you again)?

    @ DPG - Have had a chance to re-read your comment that you posted the link to (had seen it when you posted it) and I agree!

    also @ DPG - from a bit back up the thread, but I wanted to answer your question: “If noone asked for your opinion it would probably be wrong to push them hard not to raise their kidds as Catholics. HOWEVER, if asked about your opinion……..why not give it, plain and very clear. You might be helping some as-yet-unborns to live without original sin guilt and that sort of stuff.” The problem in this situation is that my friend knows that his daughter, who is in her 30’s, has asked advice for many years and never takes any of it. He is literally wasting his time and effort to try and help her. He might give very different advice to someone else asking, but knows better here. I agree with you that it would be better to prevent the as-yet unborns from this kind of damage. Hope that helps…

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
