Yeah, I know it’s satire

Yeah, I know it’s satire.  I’m an atheist, and I hate stupid, narrow-minded fundies as much as anyone.  But honestly, this joke has run its course.  People’s lives can actually get ripped apart by Pastafarianism, though I know you don’t really believe it.  Not as many as by organized religion, but organized religion can’t really be stopped except by massive revolution, whereas Pastafarianism can be.  It was funny for a while, but you don’t seem to realize (actually, some of you probably do) that no one cares anymore, that all the hate mail is faked.  Stop laughing at the rest of the world, and realize that you’re not better than the people who post your hatemail; it’s a /joke/.  And your religion has lost its humor.  So shut up when talking to people you think are stupid.  That was the /real /meaning of the “atheists are so arrogant” post.  He was pointing out that /you/ were so arrogant in believing that there were really that many stupid people in the world.  Some of you, I am now sure, know that all this hatemail is faked.  Tell the others, and get everyone to stop acting such a fool.

    I guess I agree. It just made me sad.

    Bill, they have the equivalent awareness of a pussy, according to Jeff, who, I found out, is Jon’s dad. This means that Christa is Jon’s mom. This soap opera is out of control.

    Hey, ever think that people dont think this is a joke? Anybody can make up a crappy religion, trust me, ive thought up about 6, but to get this one into mainstream media and actually have a gospel and stuff, that takes something else. People actually have to believe in this stuff for it to actually be known. Jsut look at scientology. Wtf? It’s based off a series of novels. The sad part is, this actually makes more sense than scientology. Who knows, maybe i believe it a little. So stop criticizing some people’s beliefs, because if you do, ill sue you.

    @ Thumpie - no need to be a lonely wabbit! I’ll be here for another hour or so! :)

    @ everyone - Told my Dad about the FSM website (got him the Dawkins book for Christmas) and then told him the other day about being invited to join the private group. Yay, I’m excited! Anyway, he sent this back to me:

    Mom read your enote to me, then she made the remark that she thinks that you are silly to read the stuff on FSM. I will not tell her that I have told you this, but you need to know. She just will not let you have any independent thought or stray from her fold so to speak. I think she should be proud that you use your own brain to make your own judgements. 99% of people will not think for themselves, it is SO painful.

    Myself I am glad that you look for alternative thought, if the big “majority” thinks something is good or right, that is when I start looking for the flaws in their thinking.

    Hopefully he doesn’t read the site very much and won’t know that I posted that! But it seemed important to share.

    These people are sad, Bill. And sadder yet, they are spreading their bullshit into the third world where the population is most vulnerable. They readily admit to this. Jeff, the patriarch of this sad little group of fundies, is based in Guatemala. He travels the world proselytizing to the unwashed and ignorant masses. He is a shyster. A con man. Most of his website is dedicated to fund raising. He is a mean-spirited, bigoted, narrow-minded lowlife that preys on the innocent, the weak, the poor, and the vulnerable.

    “Hey, ever think that people dont think this is a joke?”
    Straf — We can’t take responsibility for the stupid of the world. Christians have that market all wrapped up.

    @ Straf - Firstly, welcome aboard; glad to have your input. We only criticize people’s beliefs when they are destructive and hypocritical. To get this into the mainstream took intelligence, humor, guts and determination so I guess that counts as “something else”. And yah, this does make more sense than Scientology! That’s some scary stuff…

    You will find that you won’t get far in this group by threatening us. We are a reasonable group and will listen to anyone with a well-thought and well-presented viewpoint. So, have fun and join in but lighten up a bit!

    @Rowdy Wench
    Your dad sounds very wise, and you’re lucky to have him support and trust you so completely. His remark about pain being the reason people don’t always think for themselves is really true.
    .
    @Bill
    Your post has made me feel a little guilty for having a go at the Christian delusionists on that site. You’re right, they do all seem sad. As much as a part of me laughs like a loon everytime I read some of their remarks, I can see how the problems they all seem to have make them turn to religion for answers.
    .
    I guess, if they are completely miserable yet unable to fix the problems or face them alone, then they turn to the solace of a heavenly father to solve all their problems for them. Lacking the mental abilities to think for themselves makes them a little bit handi-capped, and I don’t make fun of handi-capped people, as a rule. “Religion arises from pain and loss…”, “the alienation, the humiliation, and the greed that fuel religious fervor must be addressed if [religion] is to lose it’s power of control over others.”
    .
    At the same time, it isn’t the people there who we are directly targeting, but rather the admins and preachers and such who use the “word of god” to make the people who come there for solace feel small and weak. The one man Jeff Mills actually called someone a pussy for a very stupid reason… AND THEN SAID HE THOUGHT IT MEANT CAT!!… and some posts I have read flat out tell people that they are going to hell or that they are too busy worrying about themselves to solve the issue. Really, for those people, I have no sympathy… seems to me they are using their positions to make others feel like shite.
    .
    Are you very down right now, dear Bill? Are you ok?

    @Rowdy Wench
    *wags cotton tail*…Thanks Rowdy…I’m surprised that you don’t want to dash off in “pursuit of god”…he’s pretty easy to catch.
    @Bill
    Don’t be sad Bill…at the end of the day the ones most likely to get miffed are the ones in charge (it’s a power thing) they’re the ones that these poor misguided “souls” turn to for advice…just look at the “services” offered…music to dating and more…they want control…they get mad when their authority is challanged…people in the “flock” are more likely to get out if presented with alternatives…
    @Straf
    “People actually have to believe in this stuff for it to actually be known.”
    No true. The difference is that the people who come here (CoFSM) were smart enough in the first place to understand the difference between sh*t and sawdust…and no one here has tried to tell them otherwise.

    @Thumper
    I kind of wonder why exactly they chose to ban you. The views you expressed were completely in line with their own, and not much harsher than some of the stuff I have read on that site. I was reading a different thread, and saw they had banned one woman for saying she questioned God’s will… she was not abusive and as far as I can tell she was not just pissing around like we are.
    .
    Also, has anyone else noted the hypocritical thinking of these people, that they will cheerfully ban from their site anyone who does not completely and mindlessly agree with whatever they say, yet they come here and call us all heathens and threaten to sue us, and we welcome them openly and ask only that they actually enter into the debate mode rather than the childish mud slinging mode? Doesn’t seem to matter how polite/genuine you are on their site, if you don’t see eye to eye, you’re banned.

    There’s just too many posts on this thread for that to happen though.
    If new threads open up, could we keep this going on those so I could actually join in on the fun?

    @ bill - Thanks, and you are welcome. If you haven’t gone to sleep yet, did you post anything about guilt? I have been looking forward to it but have been gone for several days.

    @ Thumper - If I did catch god I’m not sure what I’d do with him - although I did think I should spank him for being a very naughty boy. Is there something wrong with me? Where do these thoughts come from? Ha ha ha, j/k, I think for the first time in my life there are several things right with me.

    @ Beth - Thanks! I’m in my mid-30’s and this is the first time I’ve had any real interaction with my Dad. He respects my ideas, and that’s really cool.

  15. 755 - February 26th, 2007 at 8:19 pm - Rowdy Wench Says:

    @ Pixel - It does seem that the longer the threads get the slower the going…

    @ Batman - I once was in a room with 2 fundies (no escape for poor Rowdy there!) and they were cheerfully talking about how much proof there is that the world is 6,000 years old. They were in exact agreement with each other, but we had a full day of stuff to do so they said they’d continue the discussion later. I thought “discussion? There is no discussion here.” Discussion involves different viewpoints and ideas; these people just want to have a love-fest for their own ideas. It was a challenge to keep quiet, but necessary in that situation.

  16. 756 - February 26th, 2007 at 8:26 pm - Batman Says:

    @Pixel & Rowdy
    I can’t post at all on the arrogant atheists thread… it takes about 10 minutes to get there, and then 10 more minutes for my ‘puter to get tired and shut down when I hit submit. =S
    .
    @Rowdy Wench
    I have had to keep myself quiet before as well, and it sucks, because I always think of about a million things I want to say. Just as well though… I don’t think me telling these people what I think of their nutso ideas is going to change them. The only way to change a person is to wait for them to ask… if they’re not asking, then they’re still not thinking… and if they’re not thinking, then they don’t really want to change.
    .
    @Bill
    I feel badly, especially if you are sad. I hope if there is anything I can do you will let me know. =(

    @Rowdy
    A good spanking would be a fine place to start.
    @Batperson
    Isn’t it interesting to see them in action…by all means seek Mr Mills’ wisdom but for Christs sake dont have any of your own (unless you’ve worked your way up the religion…then you get a funny hat and the keys to the executive wash room). They banned me because I presented alternative advice for Daniel J (albet barking mad advice but typical “god squad” advice nonetheless)…I was a threat as I had an alternative position to his…I invited him to a have it out with me on the forum but alas he’s not a man of conviction…a believer would defend his beliefs…
    .
    I’m ranting…I’m just mad he spoiled my fun…*insert foot flicks*

    @Thumper
    You should log back in from a home computer and go nuts… I enjoyed your barking mad advice… ha ha ha. I wonder if they see the irony? I doubt it, but I wonder… I want someone to go on (YOU!!!) and go to a thread by the daughter, and tell her that all of her problems are a direct result of her unfullfilled yet not-completely-exorcised longings for the same sex. And maybe ask her who she is to sit in judgement of others all day long, while she herself is a hypocritical sinner just like the rest of us. (Well, the sinner part anyways.)

    @ everyone - I almost forgot to tell you that last Friday I had a very delicious holy meal of shrimp fettucine alfredo at one of my client’s houses - yummy and worshipful at the same time. :) And now, thinking about food is reminding me that it’s almost time for hubby to be home and dinner! We’ll probably have to go somewhere coz I’ve been playing here instead of cooking! Ha ha! So I will catch all of you later…

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
