bead

This fsm bead was spotted on ebay:

I think it looks kind of like a frog.  It’s currently at $8.53 with two days remaining.  You can view the auction here.

How on earth did they make that masterpiece?! I’m off to view the auction RIGHT NOW.

  2. 2 Wench Beth Feb 16th, 2007 at 4:07 pm

Ok, I’m back from the auction. That FSM bead is amazing. You could make a necklace out of it, but it’d be a little bit messy to do an earring(s). Oh, and the artist’s name is Nikki! Sound familiar?! ;)

    porcupine8 writes
“The Kansas State Board of Education has changed the state science standards once again, this time to take out language questioning evolution. This turnaround comes fast on the heels of the ouster given this past election to the ultra-conservative Board members who originally introduced the language. ‘Science’ has also been re-redefined as ‘a human activity of systematically seeking natural explanations’ (the word ‘natural’ had been previously stricken from the definition). If you’d like to see the new standards, a version showing all additions and deletions is available from the KS DOE’s website (PDF).”

Not this Nikki. I agree with Prophet Bobby, in that I too think it looks a little froggy. It’s the thought that counts.

I knew it wasn’t you, Wench Nikkiee, because the artist was from the U.S., but I thought it was a funny coincidence :) Or maybe you *are* a famous glass artist and haven’t told us yet! Praise be to the FSM!

  6. 6 Josh the Pirate Feb 16th, 2007 at 6:09 pm

The FSM is green? Maybe it’s that organic spinach spaghetti you get at the health food store.

  7. 7 Pixel Pop Feb 16th, 2007 at 6:16 pm

    I’m definitely buying that.
The least they could have done is NOT made it green.

Probably the FSM can appear to us in any color He chooses. I think the green is cool!

  9. 9 Nikki the beadmaker Feb 16th, 2007 at 10:20 pm

The FSM is white, the background is green because it happened to be the closest glass…. I felt inspired. :)
I don’t think I’m quite a famous glass beadmaker yet, but thanks for the kudos.
Any suggestions for a better background color, anyone?

    It’s not easy being green…..

To Nikki the Beadmaker… I sent you a message via your Ebay listing :)

Nice craftmanship. Must be that missing link between that retarded fish frog thing and the FSM proving Pastafarian evolution by Unitelligent Design. But then what do I know, I’m just a beer-guzzling smug assclown of the evilutionist conspiracy.

    Nice one Nikki the Beadmaker!
I rather like the green….but I like purple too - hint hint!

    Nikki the Bead Maker,

The problem isn’t the background colour.
I think the hole through the bead is putting Bobby and Beth in mind of a frog.
    .
I can’t quit tell the scale but I think your subject matter & handiwork are very fine.
    .
You could make a pendant (e.g. hole at top) that would look very fine.
    .
It’s great to see how much art is inspired by the FSM.

    Nikki the Bead Maker,
    .
I’ve been to the auction now so I know the terminology.
Yes, the stringer work is very fine, very fine indeed.
    .
You’ve gone for the FSM ICTUS there, but could you try something representational.
    .
There was a lovely sliver necklace somewhere on the site.
    .
A couple of meatballs and some stringer work would obscure the hole and look fantastic.
    .
I also notice you’ve used the word Mandrel. I like that word.

    Ahoy Captain Mad John Kidd!

  19. 19 Nikki the beadmaker Feb 17th, 2007 at 8:59 am

Thanks for all the tips - purple would be lovely, too. :)
I tend to wear a lot of beads on a sterling chain - the way this one is weighted, it would hang correctly that way without being made into a pendant. It’s about an inch long, and yes, I could make them with the hole going up and down, made into a wire-wrapped pandant, too… (Or earrings, etc…)

Bobby, I told Cassy that she should make some FSM items from polymer clay. (Did you know she does that professionally? She even teaches classes and publishes articles about polymer art.) She was concerned about doing it without your permission; I told her I thought you wouldn’t mind. Besides, I know she’ll give freebies to the family!

    Looks a bit like a hamburger…

The bead is awesome, but how did our noodly lord get conjunctivitis (pink eye)? Oh, well, eyedrops can probably sort it out.

  24. 24 Varthonai Feb 19th, 2007 at 11:38 pm

Ah, you foolish mortals, green is the greatest color in the universe! The FSM is most deserving of it.

  25. 25 Captain Noodles Feb 20th, 2007 at 7:20 pm

Ahoy! I’m not sure where else to post something like this, but I spotted the FSM in a webcomic yesterday. I was browsing SmackJeeves and ran into this…

I found it a bit amusing. I love things that make fun of religion.

Perhaps His Noodliness is *underwater*, protecting His Pastafarians on the high seas?

    @Varthonai
“green is the greatest color in the universe”…Kinda like the land of green ginger???

  28. 28 Storm Petrel Feb 26th, 2007 at 5:46 am

    Or Ireland…
BTW, @ Alchemist, Gerry Adams is to lay a wreath in Croke Park to comemerate the 15 englishmen massacred there on Saturday

  29. 29 Teh Pirate Fish Mar 6th, 2007 at 8:47 am

To froggy.. But I still like it!

  30. 30 Alchemist Mar 11th, 2007 at 10:31 am

@Storm Petrel - Sorry if this is very late :) Not been on this thread for a while.
‘Twas a deserved win. Can’t really complain about it :(
At least the Irish didn’t do to us (well, the English anyway) what we did to them at Croke Park.
Our history isn’t easy reading alas :(

Maybe this is late, but I just read the thread.
I think the background should be spaghetti sauce red.

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
