    Just wait until Scotland thrash the Aussies. Oh how I’ll dance :)
    .
    O-EJ – well, the Aussies know something about it too. It’s mainly the old commonwealth countries (i.e. places we have, at some time, invaded, enslaved or generally fucked about with).
    .
    You have to start at an early age with cricket. I haven’t a clue about all of the rules but that’s OK as most umpires are pretty clueless too (unless they’re on our side of course).

    @ OEJ- I lived in England a while back and still have no clue about cricket (sorry Brits and Aussies – no offense). I do know they can play for 3 days and still have no idea who won…

    @ Alchemist – how did you end up with cousins in Alabama? At least Mobile is a real city!

    @ Thumper – had fun with hungdaddy. He accused me of being “sensitive”!! Hahahaha!

    Rowdy – my maternal grandmother was the youngest of 7(I think) siblings – she was the only one who didn’t emigrate in the early 1900s. Got relatives in NY, Mobile, Quebec, Vancouver and other places I can’t remember.
    .
    “I do know they can play for 3 days and still have no idea who won…” – 5 days for a test match. At one time they weren’t time limited. I suspect they changed that when people started dying from old age.
    .
    When you go to see one – well, put it this way, they sell alcohol so it’s more like a 5-day Piss Up-a-thon – usually have to check the score when you get home to see what you were supposed to be watching :)

    Cricket really is the greatest game ever…it tests a man physically (think 5 days in the sun running about), mentally and more importantly…it tests a man’s spirit and even his honour like no other game…cricket is like life…I sh*t you not! Don’t listen to Wench Nikkiee…most chicks just don’t get cricket…it’s not in their genes or handbags or something…

    I played Vigaro (and sometimes cricket) all through my school days :)
    Even knocked a “silly mid on” into unconsciousness once, when I accidently slipped into softball tradition of throwing the bat after…on that occasion…an excellent hit. (at least a four, though I thought it was probably a six…wasn’t counted though :(

    Oh and when I referred to watching grass grow…was mainly referring to spectating the game. Mind you, on your own teams fielding stint, it really depends on your field position, batsman and bowler, as to whether you have time for a game of chess, a couple of drinks and a nap in between seeing any action. :)

    Vigaro is a poor cousin of the real thing…you’re to be commended on playing the real thing though…cricket builds character…but “just because you are a character doesn’t mean you have character” – Harvey Keitel “Pulp Fiction”.
    .
    Cricket is a tough sport…silly mid on is a tough position. My friends and I have a little tradition of playing Qld vs Rest of the World (ROW) each year (ROW includes other States but we have a couple of Poms, Kiwi’s and a Sri Lankan)…I usually get silly mid on…I believe this is on account of my enormous skill and that I’m usually most pissed at 9.00am (and agree to stand 3 feet from the batsman)…but now I think about it maybe my team mates just don’t like me…

    “was mainly referring to spectating the game.”…what an appalling thing to say…there’s nothing in this world as exciting as being glued to the tele watching every ball of a hard fought 5 day test between the Aussies and the “Old Foe”…other then being at the game dressed as a XXXX Legionnaire cheering for your countrymen…(we made it into Shannon Noll’s “Come on Aussie” film clip I’ll have you know…we also got in “Picture” magazine with a hot naked woman…classy stuff)

    @Thumper
    Must admit I only got nine off the top of my head (ways to get out) – I forgot about handling the ball :(
    I was always a close-in fielder too. I used to think it was because of my cat-like reflexes and extreme courage. I now suspect it was to stop me from sitting down near the boundary and sneaking in a crafty smoke. Or, like you said, they just didn’t like me :)
    .
    I just bet you bowl spin too! The lazy man’s delivery of choice. 15 yard run-up, I think not! I’ll stick to a big step and a hop thanks :)
    .
    I love some of the arguments too “well, I had to fetch it last time – you go and get it”
    .

    “….maybe next year we could get a team of Pirates together for the Ashes :)”
    .
    Now that’s a damned fine idea. I bet we could get at least 12 reasonable cricketers together!
    Three questions;
    1) Where should we play – not England, too wet! Barbados? On a beech :)
    2) Who should we challenge?
    3) If it’s for an alternative ashes – what can I, er we, set fire too :)) – not really fussy about that one. Hell, just give me an accelerator and my zippo and name your target!

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
