    A most excellent link…brings back memories…good to see my information on the history of the Gold Field Ashes was fairly accurate…I’ve got a very good mate from JCU that lives out at “The Towers”…travelled out there quite a bit during the Uni days…feel hungover just thinking about it…

    “you know where”
    Yes…good stuff :)

    “feel hungover just thinking about it”
    I understand…..I’m not joking when I say I have virtually no memories of those weekends. Went up a couple of times to take photos. On both those occasions, after a few drinks, I thought it was wise to give up on the pics and stow my camera gear. I’m sure I still have some of those undeveloped films….somewhere..

    Well back to the grindstone for me…:(

    I’m pulling up stumps for the day…catch you later…if you track down the film clip you’ll note the Legion in profile standing to give a “Roman” salute…heady days…

    Hey Thumper….. maybe next year we could get a team of Pirates together for the Ashes :)

  6. 726 Alchemist Mar 13th, 2007 at 10:55 am

    @Thumper
    Must admit I only got nine off the top of my head (ways to get out) - I forgot about handling the ball :(
    I was always a close-in fielder too. I used to think it was because of my cat-like reflexes and extreme courage. I now suspect it was to stop me from sitting down near the boundary and sneaking in a crafty smoke. Or, like you said, they just didn’t like me :)
    .
    I just bet you bowl spin too! The lazy man’s delivery of choice. 15 yard run-up, I think not! I’ll stick to a big step and a hop thanks :)
    .
    I love some of the arguments too “well, I had to fetch it last time - you go and get it”
    .
    @Nikkiee
    “….maybe next year we could get a team of Pirates together for the Ashes :)”
    .
    Now that’s a damned fine idea. I bet we could get at least 12 reasonable cricketers together!
    Three questions;
    1) Where should we play - not England, too wet! Barbados? On a beech :)
    2) Who should we challenge?
    3) If it’s for an alternative ashes - what can I, er we, set fire too :)) - not really fussy about that one. Hell, just give me an accelerator and my zippo and name your target!

  7. 727 Red DutchPasta Kidd Mar 13th, 2007 at 12:11 pm

    Alchemist, Nikiee. I can’t play (due to my little vision problem) but I’ll volunteer to make the pasta and serve the beer. If it is somewhere nice of course.
    How about a spaghettibowl as alternative ashes?

  8. 728 Alchemist Mar 13th, 2007 at 1:15 pm

    RDPK.
    .
    You have a vision problem? You can umpire! (erm, are you, you know, erm, (shhh) open to financial inducements?)
    .
    I nominate RDPK for Umps!
    .
    I like the idea of a spaghetti bowl for a prize but I’ve kinda set me little heart on setting fire to something now!

    @Alchemist
    It’s tough comming up with the “10″…9 off the top of your head is pretty darn good…did you include “hit wicket”, “handle ball” and “interference”??? Will be busy today but will poke my head out of the warren now and again…

    I missed “handled the ball when the fielding side didn’t want you to” Not bad though - I got timed out and “you’re the wrong colour - you’re out” :))

    What an original argument! I’ve never heard it spoken better.
    Everyone, I think we owe Mr. Callista a round of applause.

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
