fsm crashes Flock of Dodos screening

I had to write you and tell you about the event we had here at my university (East Carolina University) last night. We had a screening of the new hit documentary “Flock of Dodos: The Intelligent Design / Evolution Circus” by Harvard-trained biologist-turned-filmmaker Randy Olson. Afterwards, there was a panel discussion that included Randy Olson, and faculty from biology, anthropology, geology(UNCW), and religios studies. Obviously, I felt that it was my duty to show up in full pirate regalia and hand out some propaganda.

It went really great! Our 750 seat theater was packed to the hilt. I met many fellow pastafarians, and think I converted quite a few more. When I asked an FSM based question of the panel, it was met with numerous rounds of applause and laughter. Afterwards some of the panelists, students, and faculty all went out for a beer. I countinued my evangelizing at the bar, and think I made a few more converts. I have to say that it was a great day for FSM!

I am attaching photos of my costume and me handing out brochures. Theres a photo with Randy Olson, our moderator Dr. Joe Luczkovich, and myself. Finally, I am including a photo of a random drunk girl molesting our noodly creator in a less than holy manner (I think he actually enjoyed it!)

The film was really great and hilarious. I definitely think pastafarians will enjoy it! The trailer can be viewed here: http://www.flockofdodos.com/ and you can see if there will be a screening near you. There will be screenings all over the country in the next month for Darwin Day. I would definitely reccomend everyone try and make it out to a screening, and don’t forget your pirate regalia!

Thanks Again,
Nick Jones

Cheers for the e-mail Teddy. I’d whipped it from your site to be honest. I’ll drop a line. No beer? You poor sod! If you’re oop North you can drop in, I’ve a few Stella’s left :)

Being “Pompous” and being “Arrogant” are quite different from one another. However I am happy with myself for the lack of posters as of late. Seems my plan is working.

  3. 703 DutchPastaGuy Jan 26th, 2007 at 7:20 pm

Fewer posters have managed an interersting discussion in this thread lately, so I’m not too bothered about it.

  4. 704 Alchemist Jan 26th, 2007 at 7:23 pm

DPG. I think the “Run” thread is the winner. TLM, ahh, I kind of miss him, he was fun.

  5. 705 Thumper Jan 26th, 2007 at 7:23 pm

@DutchPastaGuy Once again. A legend in your own mind.

Avatar, you certainly fought the good fight. I just pretend that I don’t hear the doorbell when the Jehovah Witnesses stop by. They are such a pathetic little group of kind souls. Like shooting a fish in a barrel, no?

  7. 707 Marc McOar Jan 26th, 2007 at 7:27 pm

Yes, I think the Run thread wins. But, I don’t miss the smarmy little TLM. He was annoying, like all board trolls.

  8. 708 DutchPastaGuy Jan 26th, 2007 at 7:28 pm

Guys, how do you get rid of Thumpers attention other than waiting for someone else to attract his attention as has happened to me?

  9. 709 Marc McOar Jan 26th, 2007 at 7:31 pm

On the bottom left of your keyboard is the “Ignore” button. Push it.

@DPG. “Fewer posters have managed an interersting discussion in this thread lately, so I’m not too bothered about it.”
    .
You arrogant git. I was keeping out of this but who the fucking hell do you think you are?
    .
You sound like you’re stamping your foot and sticking your bottom lip out with that comment!
    .
I understand that English isn’t your first language (I think?). I just hope that’s the reason you come over as a tool.

Thank you Marc, but I couldn’t just leave. Not only do I love debates, and using reason to bash fundies, but they were going to try to convert others to their perspectives. I had to protect people from being deluded.

    @Alchemist
I seem to provoke you a lot lately. Thumper says he is glad there are fewer posters lately. I think the thread has had interesting discussion lately. A comment shared by several other posters btw. So what is wrong by saying that the discussion has been interesting lately despite the fewer posters and that I’m fine with that? Maybe my English is bad, I don’t see why you would have such a big problem about what I said.

  13. 713 Thumper Jan 26th, 2007 at 7:48 pm

@DutchPastaGuy I have aready said this. But it needs to be said again. You are so full of yourself. You can’t even see it!

  14. 714 DutchPastaGuy Jan 26th, 2007 at 7:50 pm

    @Thumper
Fine. Please explain to me then about the last post from Alchemist and me. I honestly don’t see the problem.

  15. 715 Alchemist Jan 26th, 2007 at 7:56 pm

DPG. Aargh. “Fewer posters have managed an interersting discussion in this thread lately, so I’m not too bothered about it”
    .
To me that read that the recent posters have not interested you. That our discussions have, in some way, been less than yours. This is not paranoia btw.
    .
The big problem with this form of communication is that the subtle inflections, body language etc are not seen.
    .
I always read between the lines, look for hidden meaning etc. This isn’t a fault for me but a positive advantage in a lot I do!
    .
I will read your posts with a different head on in future :)

“To me that read that the recent posters have not interested you. That our discussions have, in some way, been less than yours. This is not paranoia btw.”
Ok, misunderstanding then. Maybe the way I phrase my English it is part of the problem.
    .
“I will read your posts with a different head on in future :)”
    Ok.

  17. 717 DutchPastaGuy Jan 26th, 2007 at 8:13 pm

    @Thumper
“DutchPastaGuy I have aready said this. But it needs to be said again. You are so full of yourself.”
I see. This coming from the man who wrote “However I am happy with myself for the lack of posters as of late. Seems my plan is working.” Glad to see you’re not being full of yourself by any amount then.
    Goodnight everyone.

@DPG. Man, can you imagine what translators have to go through! We all speak the same language but all read it differently.

You may be interested in the following radio discussion.
    .
    The Anthropic Universe
    .
“Martin Redfern: In a light hearted attempt to ridicule the role of design in anthropic reasoning, atheist Douglas Adams, late author of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, invented what he called puddle theory. He wrote:”
“It’s rather is if you imagine a puddle, waking up one morning and thinking hmm this is an interesting world I find myself in, an interesting hole I find myself in, it fits me rather neatly, doesn’t it. In fact it fits me staggeringly well, must have been made to have me in it!
This is such a powerful idea that as the sun rises in the sky and the air heats up and, as gradually the puddle gets smaller and smaller it’s still frantically hanging onto the notion that everything’s going to be alright because this world was meant to have him in it, was built to have him in it. So the moment he disappears catches him rather by surprise. I think this maybe something we need to be on the watch for.”
    .
The show is at the moment on air, but in a day or so you can download the mp3 for this show or read transcript now.

@Alchemist You read just fine. No need to denounce what has been said. It was all spot on.

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
