fsm crashes Flock of Dodos screening

I had to write you and tell you about the event we had here at my university (East Carolina University) last night. We had a screening of the new hit documentary “Flock of Dodos: The Intelligent Design / Evolution Circus” by Harvard-trained biologist-turned-filmmaker Randy Olson. Afterwards, there was a panel discussion that included Randy Olson, and faculty from biology, anthropology, geology(UNCW), and religios studies. Obviously, I felt that it was my duty to show up in full pirate regalia and hand out some propaganda.

It went really great! Our 750 seat theater was packed to the hilt. I met many fellow pastafarians, and think I converted quite a few more. When I asked an FSM based question of the panel, it was met with numerous rounds of applause and laughter. Afterwards some of the panelists, students, and faculty all went out for a beer. I countinued my evangelizing at the bar, and think I made a few more converts. I have to say that it was a great day for FSM!

I am attaching photos of my costume and me handing out brochures. Theres a photo with Randy Olson, our moderator Dr. Joe Luczkovich, and myself. Finally, I am including a photo of a random drunk girl molesting our noodly creator in a less than holy manner (I think he actually enjoyed it!)

The film was really great and hilarious. I definitely think pastafarians will enjoy it! The trailer can be viewed here: http://www.flockofdodos.com/ and you can see if there will be a screening near you. There will be screenings all over the country in the next month for Darwin Day. I would definitely reccomend everyone try and make it out to a screening, and don’t forget your pirate regalia!

Thanks Again,
Nick Jones

Also, the shoulder mounted FSM is absolutely fantastic.

Long may his noodly appendage touch you.

it seems you had a quick shave fellow pastafarian. In the first picture you have a modest moustache but in the fourth you have but a goatee. Maybe you were helped along the way with some grog?

Excellent work spreading his noodliness message, just one minor suggestion mattey..the holy robes are a religious outfit and not a costume with all due respect.RAmen

Nick, you surely will be BLESSED by the FSM for introducing Pastafarianism to so many potential converts. And that sounded like a really fun evening :) Good costume, and good job!!

@ Eggy - I am in Nottingham, home of Robin Hood, a frustrated pirate if ever there was one! :)

I was hoping more people were headed to the bar; you mentioned the 750 people in the movie, and that dropped to maybe 200-300 for the discussion panel afterwards, but it ended up being half the discussion panel, you, and me at the bar. :’(

I have a 2-page writeup I did on the event for my anthropology class if I can find a way to contact people other than through public comments here…

@Booty– No I don’t know if it will come to the UK. I think it is set to air on showtime in march, and will go to DVD sometime after that.
    .
@Eggy– Arrrrrr me lousy moustache did go the way of the dodo.
    .
@Third Eye Patch– “Excelent work!!! I hope to be doing the same when this movie comes to my town!” — Please do! The director would love that. Blessed be ye!
    .
@Captain Noodulous Silicate TBHNA– “I bet the temperature is falling in East Carolina after such a fantasic outing.” — Ironically we did get the first cold snap of the sason that evening. It dropped like 25 degrees! Also the mascott for ECU IS the Pirate. Many thought I was just representing ECU Pirates. When I asked my question I told of the holiness of pirates, and informed all the pirates in the audience that they were holy in the eyestalks of the lord.
    .
@Arthur– I’ll email that photo to you. I’d also like to read your writeup, so shoot that back to me. Did you read the crappy article the school newpaper wrote? I went to the comments section and rheemed em out over it.

Regarding the local weather here; I wish I had a screenshot for this, but you’ll have to take my word. The movie and subsequent conversions were on a Tuesday night. Monday’s temperatures were in the low 70’s, while Wednesday’s temperatures were in the mid 40’s.

More evidence of His Noodly Appendage and the obvious correlation between Pirate activity and global warming. :-D

    @Nick:
I’ll reply with my writeup as soon as I get some contact info for you.

  16. 16 Captain Noodulous Silicate TBHNA Jan 20th, 2007 at 3:56 pm

    Hail to his noodly appendage.
I knew that he wouldn’t let such a fine piratical display go unrewarded.

We also believe that he enjoys seeing his own image - why else has he put it everywhere?

    If only more people understood.

    RAmen.

Arrrr! that be a most wonderful facial hair piece ye be sportin Nick! And good job on the conversions. We need more dedicated pirates like you.

    .
I would put in the usual appalling spelling, but I just can’t bring myself to do it.
Also, the people who post like that must use IE. Further proof of evil. Firefox has inbuilt spell checking.
    .
Anywho, back on topic now I’ve taken the wind out of the xians sails.
Can’t wait ’til this hits the big screen. Lets hope it comes to the north of old blighty.
Cheers for bringing this to us Nick.

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
