“”My daughter’s schoolbooks tell her that we live in a world ruled by disorder,” said Knox Heflin, one of several dozen fundamentalists who spoke out against the teaching of the law at a Statesboro (GA) School Board hearing. “That’s a direct contradiction of what it says in the Bible, about how everything is going to get better, and we’ll all live happily up in heaven after the End Times.”"
    .
Funny thing here, I brought this exact question up, at MY daughters, last school board meeting, word for word! I wanted to know!

Well, everybody had cans of soda pop, and paper wrapped straws.

GOD or God, the el-cheapo egocentrist Christian excuse for a name for their deity, isn’t.
Both are gods. One of them, the noodly one, has a much more imaginative name, which does not lead to confusion for when Hawking speaks of the mind of God à la pantheist…

Third_eye_patch. I keep reading all this stuff about the second law of thermodynamics. Creationists stating that it’s proof god exists because, otherwise, more complex systems wouldn’t exist as the second law states that chaos is the lowest energy state for a system. Haven’t they seen the sun? That honking great fusion reactor spewing out energy!

That was what the continuing drama over at the BBC forum (4 or 5 continuation forums to be more accurate!) has all been about. Having an engineering background is no excuse for not understanding the 2nd law, the laws of thermodynamics came from engineering, they’re axiomatic.
The fact that a lecturer can’t define his system is disturbing, calling the earth a closed system when energy from the sun is powering it? Increasing entropy only applies to closed systems, with no mass or energy entering said system from the outside. The only truely closed system is the entire universe.

Thanks Storm, believe me when I tell you I understand that only too well.
What I was getting at is that he doesn’t even appear to have a rudimentary understanding of how TSLOT applies in the context of physical chemistry laws (where I studied it years back), biochemistry (enzyme kinetics) or biology (photosynthesis > conversion of solar energy into chemical energy). I also covered quite a bit of Botany in my studies. One word “Photosynthesis”.
You’re right he has no excuse! Just another creationist snake oil salesman as far as I’m concerned. What I was pointing out was that even after only one semester at university, his junk science would have been obvious to me. I noticed that a botanist pointed out the open system and photosynthesis concepts early on in one of the first BBC forums.

You should read his posts on the other more religous forums at the BBC. One in particular reguarding theology. I’ll try and find the link. PB considers himself an expert at mind games and playacting. Everytime he gets pulled up on it he goes all “I’m just trying to learn” innocent. He’s certainly never genuinely displayed any interest in learning about the science, despite his continued insistence that is what he is about.
In the meantime good luck if you think you can save him. I’ve rarely come accross someone determinedly oblivious to other opinions.

This is one of the other forums where I read some of his posts on:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/ni/2007/01/faithworks_opposes_lords_prote.html#commentsanchor
His postings there were the same time he was insisting on evidence and that Darwinists were trying to convert him on the McIntish forums.
I saw his posts on all the McIntosh forums as a sales pitch to the wider readership. I think he considers himself quite a clever tactician. You need to read through all the McIntosh forums and the true picture becomes clearer. It’s that giving an appearance of the big “evolution debate” strategy they all use in one form or another. I think that is why he has been back over to try and get DutchPastaGuy to go back to keep it going.
This is my take on him after following his posts for the past month or so.

That’s exactly correct Beth (and a thanks to CTTT for bringing it up)! Those who are true believers need no more proof that they already have. They will not try to convert others who differs in their beliefs but accept the way things flow. Human nature tends to be selfish and when usually one finds a treasure (especially one of redemption; the mortal form of the Holy Grail in quest fancy), they tend to keep it for themselves. Sure you have the Bible which tells people to share and everything but I will be damned if everyone who’s a Christian followde the Bible. In fact, here’s a little jail incarceration statistics (in America) for everyone:

“He will reveal himself. When he gathers his believers you will see it. If you do not believe and witness this as he says you will, please read the Bible and pray for salvation. I’ve tried reading the bible (also the Koran, Torah and various other collections of fairy tales) and it’s a collection of nonsensical rubbish that is taken as allegory or literal truth depending on your degree of delusion. Maybe we should suggest reading Darwin, Newton, Freud, Hawkins or Dawkins. They make sense, they have theories deduced from evidence. @Startibartfast: Many thanks – and your point relative to idolatry is well taken. The business about killing idolaters is a little bit diluted in my Bible – the wussy and no-doubt commie-inspired RSV – but we can probably afford not to be distracted. As idols go, the FSM’s heart is in the right place, at least. I’d propose that Christians check out Lamborghinis (sp?), lingerie and its wearers of both sexes, American Idols, Archbishops fond of their will and evangelists fond of their TV income, movie stars, politicians of the right and left…. the reader is invited to finish the list. As Yahweh evolved from the God of everything in the immediate vicinity of the Dead Sea to everything in the immediate vicinity of California and Kansas, I had thought he’d gotten a little less jealous. Truly, sincere pologies to one and all – I can’t take by own advice, LOFLMAO.

I would suggest that you get rid of that “pinko” version of the word of God and get one with a bit more “Tarantino” in it.
Nevertheless your response is both poignant and thought provoking…indeed the list of idolaters is long and distinguished. I’m off to gather up as many stones as I can find and cast them with vigor at any who will not join me in throwing stones until arrested.

No, of course God is not noodly.

God is something invented by a bunch of Israelites a couple thousand or so years ago, because they were (gasp!) desperate for a reason for the meaningless mess that is reality.

Sadly, their reason is a badly-disguised excuse to kill people.

You gotta hand it to Pastafarians, their religion has never been used as an excuse to murder, and for that I salute it.

Just wanted to follow Avatar’s comments up with two sidelights, one somber and one a perhaps humorous challenge. The somber one is that it was Ludwig Boltzmann who quantified – in elegantly simple terms – a system’s entropy in terms of the probability of its thermodynamic state. You can see that formula above Boltzmann’s bust at the tomb where he was eventually buried after killing himself. The challenge is to find humorous, but more or less acceptable restatements of the Second Law. My personal favorite, which is: “You can’t shove horseshit up a horse’s ass and get hay out its mouth.” seems – somehow – appropros of un-noodled fundies….

On various sides of a pointless argument. This is kind of deja vu because the formative stages of all silly religions (and ALL religions are silly…) seem to guarantee human posturing and backstabbing at its worst….*I* kinda like the FSM Church because its creative silliness is such a refreshing counterpoint to the stolid, relentless, humorless, self-righteous, oblivious stupidity of established Christianity and its moronic spear-bearers. And, REMEMBER, Bobby’s original point was simply to stand up to the pygmy component of the Kansas “Education” Board. This particular thread has come to an especially pathetic, whimpering, disheartening, and irrelevant end. I’m gonna turn in my funny-looking hat and be somebody else in another one. The Wenches – far and away the most interesting contributors and destined to be Transcendent Strippers in the Noodly Beyond – have abandoned this long since, anyway. And if you wanna blow me off, go ahead, but try something cleverer than “fuck you” and forget about criticizing my grammar, spelling, and punctuation as well.

Random question inquiring minds (mainly my own) want to know.

What is the FSM’s stance on Harry Potter and other such works that “promote” wizardry. I just found out that HP7 come out 7/21/07, and I’m very excited, but I wish to know if being a Pirate allows such readings…..

That’s how bad my non-understanding is, I don’t even know if it’s parody. Also, I could never read lil abner and make sense of it. I know I was supposed to read that stuff and hear what it sounded like, but that’s not one of my skills. So spelling would count to help my understanding.

I am slowly coming to believe in the FSM but I must take issue with the word used frequently by your adherents “Noodly”. Noodly is NOT a word. I just tried looking it up in my Funk & Wagnalls & guess what? No such word! Besides spaghetti is a type of pasta and noodles are, well, different. Perhaps we should refer to his appendages as pasta-like or linguine-like. We must use the utmost respect when referring to HIM or any of HIS parts. Agree??

    @SLD

I must take issue with some of the arguments on your post. Perhaps Noodly was not a word before the Prophet Bobby saw the FSM in a dream. But the English language lends itself easily to innovation. New words are constantly being added to the dictionary. Hopefully if we use Noodly enough, it will get added. Also, even allowing that pasta and noodles are not identical, all we are saying is that his appendages are noodly – that is, noodle-like. Saying they are pasta-like belies the fact they are indeed pasta, and linguini, well…I’ll just pretend I didn’t hear that part.

    Josh,
I do believe in the development and evolution of language but the question here is: Is He noodly or is He pasta-ly. I don’t think we should using contractions of noodle to describe Him or His appendenges. Have you ever heard of anyone having noodles & meatballs? Or noodles & meat sauce? Of course not. That would be utterly ridiculous! It’s spaghetti & meatballs or spaghetti & meat sauce. I vote for vermicelli-ly apendage. Yes, “Touched By HIS Vermicelli-ly Apendage”. I like the sound of that.

Does one have to have the right Motive? Or can I just go and live there to avoid holding down a real job & supporting myself? Or are all these answers in the Gospel Of The Flying Spaghetti Monster? An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
