Ah… yet another ‘fringe’ relgion

Ah… yet another ‘fringe’ religion trying to go main stream. Yet I wonder if you realize that standardized religion was set in place to keep the general masses in line? You see there was no standardized religion in the beginning. It wasn’t until the general populace started to become unruly that anyone decided to slap religion upon them. That way the leaders of the church could easily control those who threatened to topple their empires by creating a set of rules. I find it funny that supposedly only the leaders of these churches commune with “God” or whatever you choose to call your ‘creator’.
To be frank, I find your religion to be quite humorous. I also have something to point out that has been pointed out before… Why is it that your ‘creator’ is a mass of wheat, meat and tomato sauce? What if spaghetti had never been invented? What would you choose to idolize as your ‘creator’ then? I find it sad that you have sucked in these poor, directionless people. I personally find it sad that anyone needs to look to religion to find some sort of meaning to their life. We fear that which we do not understand. It’s simple human nature. If you feel the need to have a god, or goddess, or flying spaghetti monster or whatever run your life for you… fine. I still pitty you.
As for the doctor pointing to the bacteria as “proof” that a flying spaghetti monster exists… Please, don’t feed these people false hope. What you depict is simply a bacterium. Those tendrils or ‘noodles’ as I’m sure you call them, are simply a means of propelling the microbe through fluid. Be that water, blood, whatever. Your ‘pirate’ weatherman? Simply a man who had eye surgery and must wear an eyepatch to protect it from becoming infected. Your swimming ‘FSM’ in Northern California? Kelp. More commonly known as seaweed, but in fact the two are different. And finally… your proof that ‘Pastafarianism’ (which might I add isn’t clever at all) began in Israel? Simply a work of modern art placed in an old temple.
The name ‘Pastafarianism’ is actually a clever play on ‘Rastafarianism’, which was started by a Jamaican man named Rastafari. I find it sad that so many people believe so devoutly in this well thought out and well played joke. To see that so many people fight for this just proves my theory that humans are impulsive, dim-witted creatures that try so desperately to explain that which they can find no plausible answer to by turning to religion.
In closing I must state that the ‘global warming issue’ isn’t an issue at all. In fact the world still hasn’t fully come out of it’s second ice age and the rising tempuratures we are seeing are a result of that. Once more an example of humans fearing that which they do not understand. We try to explain things that frighten us. It is simply human nature. Also I must ask why you think that pirates are a different species than humans? I believe you said something about humans sharing 95% of their DNA with primates (specifically chimps if I remember correctly) and over 99% with pirates. Please… how many of you are truly that ignorant?
-Sincerely,
A devout believer in letting things be [Kieran]

MI is a pretty messed up state.

So, as gramatically correct as you were, you don’t think what you say through. Sure we all think this is a “joke” but there are still some beliefs behind it and there’s a very well developed purpose behind us. Just because we’re atheists with our “joke” of a religion to follow doesn’t mean we’re idealistic morons. The last sentence sounded contradicting didn’t it? Because if our religion is a “joke” and not a religion, then we’re atheists, but we’re not atheists, we’re Pastafarians so you have a very large contradiction is your accusations.

How do we get more people to come to this web site? After all, isnt part of the reason for existence to get more and more people to think and to justify their religious beliefs?

. I see the same names over and over again on the comments, and these same people obviously have seen the graphs and data on pirates and global warming and can certainly justify the existence of his holy FSM, but some of these wacko fringe religions like Christianity and Judism and Islam are a little weak on facts to support their belief systems (like how come you fly airplane into buildings to please your God?) I just think if we could get some more of em here and talk to me and tell me why you are right and I am wrong (this is called people actually communicating) that is a good start.

    .

So again, how do we get more people (particularily non-FSMs) to the web site? Maybe go to their site and say come on over? Ideas? Am I wrong? Let er rip, what do ya think?

I may try a post on that forum that was linked the other day, the one that talked about ‘Dover must be revearsed’, Christianity being part of the US constitution etc. I read the comments there. These were definately Creationist fundies and they had an interest in biology. They debated into some detail amongst themselves. Hopefully a politely phrased scientific counter-opinion will get them going. It will take some time to place an inviting post in their forum, since it needs a good bit of thought to come up with something good that will get them over here. But I may give it a try sometime.

in regards to getting to folks, how about utilizing
some guerilla or at least dadaist serpentine reasoning:

You know the Gospel of the FSM has stencils (both large and small)

but seems like the pirate fish could start appearing in more places than a reverse image (note the “white” patch) in an underwear ad in an Argentine newspaper.
    nudge, nudge, knowing glance…………

perhaps the applying of pirate fish will confuse them more
but it may also drive them to find out “what” and the next bit is the “where”

    Tosser who started all this.
Play acting my arse. 1.) Religion wasn’t create to take an unordered group of people and order them. The people lived in happily ordered communities. Pagans and Wiccans were doing fine (not sure just how much belief people had in the Gods, but it would have been irrelevant). Religion was made to bully and steal from the masses.
    .
Humans don’t just look to find a religion etc. People look to find answers, it’s called science. If what you said were true there’d be no atheists. The fact that there are xians etc, is down to the forced teaching from a very young age. With out that teaching there would be little or no religion, just speculation.
    .
Humans aren’t dumb moronic people, they are selfish. That’s all, it’s what keeps us alive. Neither humans nor the earth is doomed, whilst people who care remain, there is a chance.
    .
Global warming is happening faster than any other move out of ice age, so your comment is correct but missing some facts. The increased speed is believed to be part down to the number of humans and animals living now, and part down to the way we live. Yes, we’ll hit another ice age. (We won’t see it though).
    .
Half of what is important is that we clean up the air we breathe for our own health and comfort. And recycling is actually a good useful thing because were are starting to run a little low on resources, including fossil fuels, and guess what. Have you ever been to a large scale rubbish tip. I guess not. Evil places.
    .
    .
Yes people do believe in this. That’s what brings us together as a community to share and share alike. We believe in the way of life suggested by this religion, how the hell can that be a bad thing? I’m Pagan, but I still believe in this because it doesn’t conflict with my beliefs, it strengthens them. What about you? Lost, looking to try and drag other people down so you feel more secure?

Ok, here is one for the UK FSM congregation (or expatriats) . The Downing Street 10 website hosts various petitions. One of them calls on the government to abolish faith schools, the teaching of creationism and IDiocy. Since FSMism isn’t taught, why should any other faith get special treatment, especially since those are fairy tales that don’t have a graph with empirical evindence like ours. The other calls for an end to the promotion of any religion in publicly funded schools. Signing them takes less than a minute. They are at:

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
