Take a look

Published December 7th, 2006 by Bobby Henderson

Take a look at some of the hate mail on this site…some people actually have said it ruined their lives because their friends have believed in this stuff, and yes in fact I do know a girl who told me about this, and yes, she does belive in this stuff, with all of her heart. I don’t think that you people take into consideration that not everyone is the brightest crayon in the box and people will believe in anything they’re told..it’s a fact of life. I mean…I’m all for fun and games and joking around…but there really is a point of taking it to far. I mean…come on…look at what you’re doing in your spare time…it kind of depresses me.

“I truly hope that nobody mistakes this site for a serious religion?”

Alchemist, what are you saying? We’ve worked so hart to get CoFSM recognised as a true religion. According to Laughingboy, we seem to have made cult status and so being considered a “real religion” (whatever the hell that is) is surely only a small step away?

See, back in the days of “survival of the fittest” and Darwinian competition, those who weren’t “the brightest crayon in the box” were simply eaten by something larger. I fully subscribe to this method of population thinning. I really don’t think one should cater to the weak-minded. There are much harder things this girl is going to have to field than satire – like high school for example.

When you visit a site, you have a choice of, going into and exploring the site, or just moving on, I don’t think that is the responsibility of the CoFSM. If a disclaimer is to be posted at our online church, then I would have to request that all sites supporting the christian god do likewise, so as that I am not offended, if I should happen upon such a site.
    Fair?

Let’s see.. does that mean that, if I start writing mail to evangelical sites about how they have ruined peoples lives with their indoctrination of ignorance, they will back off and stop taking it too far?

Well, truly it is impressive that all of these young folks are here interacting. But, it is also a bit worrisome that some of these kids may not get the joke. But, what the hell, a lot of adults don’t get it either. Stupid is as stupid does. No, wait — I take that back. Humor challenged is as humor challenged does.

It seems to me that statistically speaking, ANY idea, no matter how outrageous, silly, or whatever, will be totally, unquestionally believed by some, and universally loathed by others… the bell curve works like that.
With that in mind, the vast majority of people will not be harmed in any way, but thanks to the IDEA behind FSMism, hopefully a great number of people will be helped, if only to think just a little bit more about their beliefs before pressing them on others.
In this regard, I don’t think those who would criticize FSMism have a leg to stand on… not without being hypocrites, of course. I mean, Crusades, anyone? If FSMism breaks a few friendships, that’s unfortunate, but hey, at least it won’t start a Holy War somewhere, right?

    Anyways, that’s my two cents.
