Falwell’s Flub: Jerry-Rigged Policy Opens Door For Pagan Proselytizing In Virginia Public School

A group of Pagans in Albemarle County, Va., was recently given permission to advertise their multi-cultural holiday program to public school children – and they have the Rev. Jerry Falwell to thank for it.

Hey, I agree with AIG on something:

    D5:

The view, commonly used to evade the implications or the authority of Biblical teaching, that knowledge and/or truth may be divided into ‘secular’ and ‘religious,’ is rejected.

    Darn tootin!

Didn’t know what thread to post this on so took pot luck.
    .
    .
**From the BBC “Anjem Choudary, a former spokesman for the now banned Al-Muhajiroun organisation, said Muslims were treated as “second class citizens” and could not get a “fair trial”.

He said: “Muslims are demonised and vilified.

“This is a failure of capitalism, of democracy and the freedom of speech.” **

    .

This comment is a result of a guilty verdict having been passed upon Umran Javed for soliciting murder. He was one of the protesters over the publication of the mohammad cartoons in the Danish press.
    .
    again, from the BBC
.”Aved told a crowd of hundreds at the February 2006 protest: “Bomb, bomb Denmark, bomb, bomb USA.”
    .
This was the protest where people were carrying placards with slogans such as “Behead those who insult Islam”, death to those who insult Islam and various references to 9/11 and Europe had better watch out, you’re next etc.
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6235279.stm

Strangely, in December, a Yemeni editor was fined for printing the cartoons.

    .

That prick has the gall to talk about freedom of speech!
    .
This comes on the same day that the UK popularity party (Labour) appears to be putting pressure on the human fertilisation and embryology authority to reject a proposal that would aid stem cell research. Why? Public opposition! The BBC website shows 60% of responders *in favour* of the research! Only 500ish responses to the white paper – predominantly from *faith groups*.
    .
Stop the world, I want to get off.
    Rant over

I am interested in the creationists in positions of power who have had criminal charges brought against them. (often for fraud if I remember) I know Ken Hovind has, but can’t remember others I have come across. There was a post on the BBC blog reguarding creationists caught out lying.
I’ve seen other names from time to time, but can’t recall them.

We have a pirate-song in the Netherlands about Piet Heijn who stole a whole fleet full of silver from the Spanish. We were at war with them at the time, so it was legal piracy. He even got a medal for it. Folks still sing it at sportsmatches and so on.

Going back to that dreadful Answers in Genesis thing.
There is a beautiful contradiction – it starts off by saying about the triune nature of god – 3 for the price of 1 stuff, then about halfway down…
Salvation is a gift received by faith alone in Christ alone
    How does that work then?
And that bit about nothing is true if it contradicts the bible – grrrrrr – it contradicts itself FFS!
I just am so amazed that “intelligent” people can spout this crap!

I’ve just finished reading the AIG article on Oil-generation. I’ve been in the oil exploration business for over 18 years and I’ve never heard such utter garbage. If they are correct in thinking that oil could be generated in such a short time, the oil co’s wouldn’t spend millions of $’s drilling a well – they could dump a load of organic material at sea, bury it with a few tons of clay and then produce oil from it a month or so later.

I don’t know how you guys can keep going back to sites like AIG. Half an hour of reading it and I felt like clawing my own eyes out!

There’s an excellent section in the Dawkins book ‘The God Delusion’ about the total wacko written about the trinity.

To be honest all the vaguely intelligent Catholics I’ve ever met tend to shuffle their feet and look at their shoes when you ask them about the nature of the trinity.

Remember even the Catholics think the fundies like AIG are nut cases!

    Well noodles,

Remember that post I made in the past few days where I said that if I walked into your temple and was treated to the abuse you were giving me, I wouldnt be inclined to take to your faith… well what do you know…?

It looks like maybe the FSM isnt much of a God if that is how nice his followers are…

And well, are those big science meanies picking on me? well, in case you hadnt noticed my shoulders havent had any problems so far… and I dont see any coming.

And again, funny how the only people who have ever been talking about conspiracies are the ones who turned out to be orchestrating one to win Dawkins a BBC online award. hmmm.

All in all a very interesting experience :-D

And as for the feathers, well, as I said I have an ancient machine on dial up and cant download pdfs.

But if anyone can actually NAME a fossil I could cross ref it, well, then you might see some sparks!

Anyway, someone at the top of this blog said they thought I didnt like some of the people on the BBC blog, but you’re way off the mark.

I dont take any of this personally, to me it is ALL about testing ideas. I dont know, I read some of your stuff and doubtless many people have met many pretty nasty people who came in the name of God, so I cant say I would blame all of you for having a chip on the shoulder against people who called themselves Christians (Jesus will decide if they were or not).

For what its worth, I’m not a supporter of GW Bush, I dont believe the church’s first priority is to control the state. I wear jeans to church, I like a cigar, I like a beer and I like pasta (maybe there’s hope for me yet ;-) ).

Also, I have no connection whatsoever to any creationist group, nor do I subscribe to any modern “statements of faith”. And I am not a young earther as I have never examined the subject in detail.

But on the other hand I’m not going to tell you I dumping Jesus or the bible just to please you. The only thing I might ask is that if you look CLOSELY at my posts on BBC hopefully you will see I have almost never ever been nasty to any of you and am just a layman trying to test whether evolution works in my head or not.

I have no reason to attack or dislike any of you guys (apart from what I read above) but hey, you have all got a good sense of humour and I forgive you already…you rascals (that goes for you too Klaver!)

(Tomorrow is a new day though ;-) )

    Amen

The CoFSM has thousands of members and many post on other forums as well. Many Pastafarians are not Dawkins followers and most are not scientists. They pick the attitude up off the conmen they worship, the ones raking in the money!
I think that is just one of their big mistakes. They don’t realise that lack of education doesn’t make someone a gullible idiot willing to swallow their rubbish. The ones over in Africa, (don’t know about South, but they mostly seem to be connected), I find especially interesting. (for want of a more vile word)
They are fighting to get all of Bush’s AIDS funding off other organisations which support condom use and provide them.
Abstinence only you understand! They, along with some government officials, appear to be getting nice and fat off the funding too. I’ll stop there. It’s bedtime here and if I go any further, it’ll take me ages to get to sleep.
This is a good article of their “wonderful” AIDS missionary work in Africa.

“South Africa? Must find out more. Sail right up to those landlubbers and give ‘em a full broadside.”

No doubt they’ll have a website to supply indoctrination propaganda. The BCSE is a wealth of info for those sort of details.
Both AiG and Creation Ministries are sneaky crowds OFT. The legs could be anywhere.

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
