Casey Luskin of the Discovery Institute’s Evolution News & Views has posted an article on the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster’s treatment of the Christmas holiday.
During the holiday season, many Americans take time to seriously and respectfully reflect on Judeo-Christian religious beliefs. Not so for one website, the “Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster” (FSM), a pro-evolution satire against intelligent design. They exhibit no interest in treating Christian holidays with respect. To celebrate the season, they are selling Christmas cards which show a dead Christian fish symbol. Other Christmas Cards portray Michelangelo’s well-known “Creation of Adam” painting on the Sistene Chapel, but the FSM cards have God replaced by the “Flying Spaghetti Monster.†Another graphic promoted on the page shows a nativity scene where Jesus is replaced by the “Flying Spaghetti Monster.” I can appreciate humor, but it’s also clear that the FSM images are intended to mock traditional religion:
…
I disagree with most of what he’s saying - we are no more mocking Christian beliefs than Christians are mocking ours - but it’s still an interesting read.

I think you’re right that ID is Christianity on the ropes. It’s a “ok folks, the other stuff, well, haha, erm, will you accept this? It’s sort of scientific ish and it doesn’t exclude god. Oh please, we want to be friends with you.”
.
I do think it’s dangerous though. The god squad will never accept our views yet they seem to believe that we will, eventually, accept theirs? Most, if not all, of the folks here have open minds, sceptical, but willing to listen and change if the evidence presents.
That’s why we can never win. All we can do is try to prevent the dawning of a new dark age.
No, ID is the fundementalist molding the evidence into a theory that keeps their God as the creater. I guess you could say on the ropes, but they will never be willing to give up.

“Nikky what about a PastaBowl?”
Good idea DutchPastaGirl, if we are not going to get any more input from other Pastafarians here, then a PastaBowl it shall be. I think we could add some sort of Pastafarian motto to the award. Come on guys, these employees were very brave to stand up to the park administrators. I think they deserve a little recognition from us. That way when we send our GoFSM theory of the Grand Canyon origins (get writing, Prophet Bobby, we won’t hold your spelling against you ;), to be sold in the bookstore (if such a thing is still alowed), they may bat in our corner.

@Dr. Maglacey
Wench Nikky told me to say that!
“We’ve got one who can put six semicolons in a sentence without breaking a sweat. Apparently periods only go at the end of a paragraph.”
.
I do that about half the time, I write run-on sentences that make the most hardened of english teachers’ eyes bleed.
I’ve, been, known for, adding, alot of them , little curly, cue things, in, my posts, too!
But, it’s mostly, because, I think they look, cool, no other, reason, really.

Looks like those darn French and Italian atronomers are plotting their own little part of that evilutionist conspiracy.

“Do Galaxies Follow Darwinian Evolution?”
‘Science Daily — Using VIMOS on ESO’s Very Large Telescope, a team of French and Italian astronomers have shown the strong influence the environment exerts on the way galaxies form and evolve. The scientists have for the first time charted remote parts of the Universe, showing that the distribution of galaxies has considerably evolved with time, depending on the galaxies’ immediate surroundings. This surprising discovery poses new challenges for theories of the formation and evolution of galaxies……..’

Another top of the pops from the Disco Institute. I call them the Disco Institute because they don’t seem to understand evolution but they sure know how to dance around the issue.

Thanks for the links Nik.

I like the one about faithfull floatation particularly.
I hope the people who heard his sermon learned something about Faith vs. Gravity/Dihydrogen Oxide.

@Gnocci Man
“learned something about Faith vs. Gravity/Dihydrogen Oxide.”
That’s a good way of putting it.
hahahahaha

speechless… only thing I can see is christians mocking uss… *sigh*
what’s the matter casey…can’t get over the fact that your organization sucks and nobody likes people like you.
.
it’s like what i say about the discovery institute. it’s a fake institute that really isn’t discovering much; or what i really mean, anything at all
this casey luskin guy reminds of casey powell….another bitching fundie that has no sense of humor and takes the god thing way too seriously. seriously, if god were everywhere, the world would not be fun at all. to all you fundies out there, get over yourselves. it’s 2007, not the Dark Ages.
also, they claim that evolution news is based on the fact that the news on TV is biased. well, maybe they should ‘discover’ that the news may be telling the truth on the subject and that they are not that popular within the world.
I just found this website today because a friend recommended it. You present some fascinating arguments and points, with a humorous spin. I may not agree with all of them, but they definitely make you think. Oh, and as a Christian I would just like to go on the record as saying I am ashamed and abashed about the many hateful comments you’ve received from other Christians. They just make themselves look like baboons, which kind of makes them into living examples of evolution or more appropriately devolution.
@just me
.
good point, i’ll keep that in mind. most of the other christians are the ones that take it to the extreme. this site isn’t an attack on christianity, just a parody of the creationist arguments. may you be touched my noodly appendege.
RAmen and Amen
Welcome aboard, Just me.
