I actually do support capital punishment in certain cases…maybe a bit more hesitantly then others, but there are some people who don’t deserve to be walking around this planet. Jail is hardly a fun place to be, but it’s still living, and quite frankly there are people in this world who don’t, in my opinion anyway, deserve that. I dunno. I can see the other side of the issue too, soo.

I support Capital Punishment, for one reason only.
It’s MY tax dollars that support these convicts in prison “for life”
and the last I knew that was around 50,000 USD per year, per convict.
That money could go to much better things, like teaching, research, my retirement fund, my beer fund… etc. etc.

I could be staggeringly wrong here, but I thought when they added up all the money spent on appeals, special jails etc it actually cost more to kill someone than to keep them in for life?
Of course you could just say screw the appeals, but it all starts to get very tricky.

Yes, I agree, Booty. Death is forever. There is not a lot of room for error. And I don’t trust a jury of my peers to figure out the truth. Let them rot in prison. I also heard that life in prison is cheaper than being on death row.

It’s tricky one capital punishment. Punishment is supposed to achieve three things
Protect the Public, Re-educate the offender and Revenge. Capital punishments achieves two, (three if you count not doing it again re-education).
I’m against it but as I said to MJK I don’t know how that would stand if my loved ones were murdered.
I think Marge Piercy put it best in her book “Woman on the Edge of Time”. “We don’t think it right to kill…..only convenient.”

I watched a movie, can’t recall the name of it.
It was about an American that was accused of murder in China.
Anyway, in that movie, it was explained that in China, if you are found guilty of murder.
You are executed within seven days, by a bullet to the head, and they send a bill for the bullet to your next of kin.
I don’t know if that is true or not? But hanging would be cheaper.

Hopfully, I’ll never have to judge another myself. I couldn’t make that decision on another life.
But like you said, ‘if it were a loved one of mine’, I can’t answer that.

As a note: If you read the Gospel Of The Flying Spaghetti Monster throughly, it says that the FSM created the universe. And if you read the Torah, it says that a DIFFERENT God made the universe.
