How can anyone in this day and age not know of the Pastafarian Theory of Gravity! The science is so clear and yet they refuse to see. Given the choice why would anyone chose to remain in the darks ages? Boggles the mind.

A little girl is in line to see Santa. When it’s her turn, she climbs up on Santa’s lap. Santa asks, ‘What would you like Santa to bring you for Christmas’?
The little girl replies, ‘I want a Barbie and G.I. Joe’.
Santa looks at the little girl for a moment and says, ‘I thought Barbie comes with Ken’.
‘No’, said the little girl. ‘She comes with G.I. Joe, she fakes it with Ken.’

I thought this article might make any aetheist feel a little better about themselves (if they had self doubts about their (lack of) faith), and perhaps bring about some compassion and understanding from fundamentalist christians.

Ha! That was good – compassion and understanding from fundamentalist christians.

Great link! However, I see Sam Harris promoting the same myths in his books that he . One of his big critiques is that “religion is as much a living spring of violence today as it was at any time in the past. The recent conflicts in Palestine, the Balkans, Northern Ireland, Kashmir, Sudan, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Eritrea, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Iran and Iraq, and the Caucasus are merely a few cases in point. In these places religion has been the explicit cause of literally millions of deaths in the last 10 years.”

Yet he doesn’t concede that atheist movements have also caused much strife and killing.

He additionally seem to want to draw religion into the crosshairs as in his article “Science must Destroy Religion”-
“I am hopeful that the necessary transformation in our thinking will come about as our scientific understanding of ourselves matures. When we find reliable ways to make human beings more loving, less fearful, and genuinely enraptured by the fact of our appearance in the cosmos, we will have no need for divisive religious myths. Only then will the practice of raising our children to believe that they are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, or Hindu be broadly recognized as the ludicrous obscenity that it is. And only then will we stand a chance of healing the deepest and most dangerous fractures in our world.”
From his artilce on why Atheist are so angry-
“plain truth is this: There is no good reason to believe in a personal God; there is no good reason to believe that the Bible, the Koran, or any other book was dictated by an omniscient being; we do not, in any important sense, get our morality from religion; the Bible and the Koran are not, even remotely, the best sources of guidance we have for living in the 21st century; and the belief in God and in the divine provenance of scripture is getting a lot of people killed unnecessarily.”
Mr. Harris seems to leave little room for discussion and as the Pope has lamented about Western culture – relies a little too much on reason. He seems to want to dismiss religoius though and philosophy completely. I choose to believe in the value of centuries of human evolution of thought including that of religious thinking.
I will leave it at this – Merry Christmas.
    From D. Henninger at theWSJ

“…..Atheists and the unchurched undervalue the extent to which they are getting a free ride on the social strength that religious-based virtue provides. It’s one thing to write in a book that we don’t need them. But I’d rather not run the real-world experiment of navigating without them. And this is why this weekend so many will spend an hour with virtue’s originalists. …”

OK I buy into religious thinking as a step in the evolution of man – so when will we evolve enough to stop ramming specific religious beliefs down the throats of public school children??

    D. Henninger at theWSJ overrates the importance of the social strength that religious based virtue provides.

And this is a productive use of yours, calling people names because they don’t agree with you? The only productivity to be had in your comment is if you realize the mistake you have made in creating it.

YES, new people come here all the time, Pride Of The Seven Sins. I’m a new adherent of Pastafarianism. I now believe in Him and all that He stands for. I still don’t think we should refer to his appendenges as “noodly” since they appear to be made of spaghetti which technically isn’t a noodle at all. Noodles are flat. I mean if I ordered a plate of spaghetti & meatballs in a restaurant and they brought me noodles and meatballs, I’d throw it all on the floor and ask to speak to the manager. Still He appears to be cool with just about anything so why should I even mention it?

Mr.Frodo- I want you to stop communicating with other human beings. Stop texting. Stop typing. Stop talking; and more impotantly, top being such dipshit. If i knew where you lived (i.e. where your mum’s basement is), i would track you down and punch you in the face somewhere in the region of 12 times, then kick you in the nuts REALLY hard and hope you never have children. and… what… the… fuck… are… these…?!!!!
You are not on my kill list yet, but i have written you onto my “maim” list with my own blood.

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
