It has occurred to me that, since it has been centuries since the holy texts of Islam and Christianity were originally written, it is perfectly likely that some crazy swine intent on making a profit/war out of religion m,ight have edited the texts at some point. With Christianity it is almost a fact. Not so sure about Islam. Either way, if you only see the good in the religious texts, and don’t abide by the “Flaming Sword” parts, we all do just fine. It’s mostly just the pugnacious ignorant and idiotic that cause the problems.

The creatures, and I use that term kindly, that come out of there are said to have been responsible for many of the worlds most atrocious hilarity. Think of Kent “Dr. Dino” Hovind’s Creationist Dinosaur Park where the Flintstones are considered real history. An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
