one of the reasons that faith schools, and faith in general are succesful, i beleive, is that they lay claim to basic human morality i.e. “christian” values and mix these basic ideas in with their own dogmatic convictions. Thus when a child is exposed to other beleif systems as they get older they feel that these new systems cannot offer morality of any sort. Furthermore it becomes difficult for the individual to distinguish between dogma introduced by the prejudice of their religious leaders and human morality which evolved long before religion

    @Just Guess:
I’m not suggesting that teachers should be made to “denounce” religion, more that RE should be taught in the same way that we teach Greek mythology – as an outmoded view of the world, of literary value but little more. If a teacher is of sufficient religious conviction to not want to teach in this way, they’re the wrong person to be in the job anyway, since people of such strong religious conviction will, by and large, view conversion as a moral duty.

@ PIXpocketsAA- read the open letter on the main page. May you be enlightened!
@skittles- really nice of you to do that, considering most others try to spread faith on here. The latest being Herr Doctor.
I actually thought rasberry was talking to the letter poster, but in any case please don’t leave.

don’t worry, i have no intint on leaving, untill everyone decides that they don’t want me here. and with people who want to push a seperate religion on you, just feel honored that they are going out of their way to pay attention to your cause! That’s what i do!

I wouldn’t mind you spreading a little of your faith, I’d like to learn more. You guys definatly don’t advertise as much as other religions, so the general public sometimes gets misconnceptions. Probably not a good idea to do a lot though, people might get annoyed. I’ll just do some research when I get the time.

Skittles–Wikipedea’s how I found my way here in the first place, you could try them. And then there’s always google!
(By the way, like Anna, I’m kinda curious as to the lesser-known details of your religion? I really don’t know as much as I’d like to about it. I’m a bit wary posting my email up here, but if you’d rather not spam the thread up I could…just if you feel like it or you’ve got some spare time, of course. ^^)

Dang I had to quote that whole post.
What more could you possibly learn about the FSM? Besides what is printed in these web pages?
It kind of, sort of, explains itself here really.
There is the book for sale, link somewhere here for it.
You say this site is confusing? But not like the king james bible right?

I was Wiccan, for a while. I found the head-ology of it too easy to abuse, though – and therefore, I caught myself becoming very manipulative of other people, so I quit before I became a bad person ;-)
    .
Please note – the “bad person” part was nothing to do with Wicca, it was to do with me being a cynical s.o.b. Nowadays I view it as being as misguided as any other religion.

I always have loved learning about ther religions, specially the ones with more than one gog/godess. I even read some of the bible, but I stopped when all the inbreeding got to be too much.
On a side note, in the story of Joseph and that coat, the whole story could be seen as hinging on this random guy standing in a field saying “they went that way”. Seriously. Think about it. No random man, no Joseph getting locked up, no survival of egypt, the very sands of time melted into glass! This is a very helpful story to think about when you feel you’re life has no meaning. All you have to do is be some random guy standing in the middle of a field saying “they went that way”, and you change the world. Sorry, just had to share that. I sugest you look it up, it’s rather odd.^_^

I know what you mean about people not ramming it down your throat (metaphorically), it makes all the difference and can sometimes be endearing (without trying to sound patronizing). It’s ok to be a bit nuts (arent we all) as long as you don’t expect everyone else to follow you.

@ Skittles- like I said, totally random, I was just thinking about an Arlow guthrie concert I went to. He was singing “This Land Is My Land” and he just STOPPED in the middle and went off on this long winding story about joseph, took about ten minutes, then at the end made that point about the random man. Then he finished the song. I looked it up when I got home, there it was! The random man. Just felt it was funny enough to share.
Although it would have been funnier if I mentioned where I heard it. Oh well. Now you know.

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
