FSM Money Stamp

dollarwide1.jpg

Nick Jones came up with this FSM money stamp. It covers up “In God We Trust” and replaces it with “In Pasta We Trust”. I like it.

Closeup: dollarwide2.jpg

BoingBoing had a post a while ago showing a tiny stamp to strike out the word “God” from paper money:

godlessmoney.jpg

Which prompted Kim Moser to suggest the following FSM stamp:

fsmstamp2.jpg

Here’s what I want to know: how many people would be interested in a money stamp? We could have them made if there’s enough interest.

‘These stories have far more credibility than those of your FSM.’
    .
Like fairies have more credibility than scientology, you mean?

Too bad fairies are not real. Biblical accounts do have credibility. The FSM does not. FSM is about as real as a fairy. Be real J. Just because you are wrong doesn’t mean you need to make up childish lies.

This is not true, if babies die they go to heaven. You see, babies do not yet know the difference between good and bad.
Until they now the difference between good and evil they are not going to go to hell. Once they do they must choose to accept Christ into your heart.

please, friends. let us not sink to the level of the hate-mailer fundamentalists. we are not here to insult religions, we are here to help prevent them from being forced onto innocents. we can always say that our hate mail is simply satire, but they will still be hate mail. I do not agree with Christianity, but I won’t tell them to f**k Jesus. FSM wishes to prevent religious extremeism, not promote it.

“The god of Christians, as we have seen, is the god who makes promises only to break them; who sends them pestilence and disease in order to heal them; a god who demoralizes mankind in order to improve it. A god who created man ‘after his own image’, and still the origin of evil in man is not accredited to him.”—Johann Most

Now, now, Caped Crusader. I’ll admit it was a slightly facetious comparison, but I’ve spent quite a lot of words above explaining the (very significant) difference between such biblical historical veracity as can be supposed to exist, and any evidence in favour of god. There is, I’m afraid, absolutely no connection. None at all. (If you know of any actual convincing evidence of god, please share it. It would be the most startling revelation in recorded history.)
    .
Back on the slightly facetious example: look at the ‘evidence’ for fairies, such as the famous Cottingley Fairy Photographs. These pictures show actual, real landscape backgrounds that did exist at the time that the fairy hoaxes were rigged. They also include material ‘fairies’ (even though these were in fact simply illustrations or photographs). The existence of the photos at all demonstrates an intention on the part of their makers to convince others to believe in fairies, whilst their reception (by such figures as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) shows the readiness of others to believe.
    .
This actually equates quite nicely with, for example, the parting of the Red Sea as described in the bible. Like so:
    .
Real landscapes behind fairies = real Red Sea, real chariots on sea bed
    .
Fake fairies = dodgy representation of events (natural disaster perceived as supernatural occurrence)
    .
Fact of hoax photos being made with intention to convince = fact of biblical account being written with intention to convince
    .
Fact of people believing in fairies = fact of millions of Christians who still take the Old Testament account as being reliable
    .
(Meanwhile, Scientology seems to me to have virtually nothing to recommend it.)
    .
So, whilst that might have been a flippant parallel, I think it’s far from being an unfair one. Please don’t confuse such attempts with ‘childish lies’. I hope I haven’t stooped so low yet, and I’m sure there are plenty of people here who’ll let me know if I do.
    .
By the way, ‘Just because you’re wrong’ is the kind of childish presumptive argument that does nothing to advance your claims. I may turn out to be wrong, but at present I appear to have all (that’s *all*) of the available evidence and scientific interpretation on my side. That’s why I have made it *my* side. Were the evidence in your argument’s favour, I’d never have stopped being a Christian.

JC, were not trying to invade your civil rights. Were simply stating that it’s stupid to believe in some FSM that nobody has proof of, or has ever seen. I know that you can come back with “well nobody has ever seen God, but put it this way, God makes alot more sense out of what life is then a Flying Spaghetti Monster.[not to mention, why would we eat spaghetti or would he allow us to eat it if he is this supreme ruler?]

    Kevin,
You say that “God makes alot [sic] more sense out of what life is then a Flying Spaghetti Monster”. Being that both are invisible and whose only accounts exist in books (and letters and blogs, of course) written on the subject, it’s difficult to see how one mythological being makes more sense than another. There was once a very strong belief in the pantheon by the Anient Grecians (and Romans), yet I’m sure you consider their beliefs to now be mythology, yes? Does your “God” make more sense then the pantheon of Ancient Greece? If so, why did they not belive in him?

The US Constitution gives us the right to believe in any religion we so choose, as does you. So why have you chosen to piss in our church? Believe what you will and allow us the right to believe as we will. Calling us stupid does make make a very good case for your belief system, now does it?

We consume pasta in order to honor our Noodly Creator. With food comes warmth. With warmth comes hope. With hope anything is possible. So there.

And since when does belief require proof?

They don’t try and tell you what to do. They present their beliefs as an alternate as to how you veiw things. I’m sure you feel strongly on some subjects just like the rest on the world and are willing to stand up for what you believe in.
The social society influences your opinions too, and half the time you don’t even realize it. If you can argue about your opinions on life why shouldn’t fundamentalist be able to?

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
