FSM Money Stamp

dollarwide1.jpg

Nick Jones came up with this FSM money stamp. It covers up “In God We Trust” and replaces it with “In Pasta We Trust”. I like it.

Closeup: dollarwide2.jpg

BoingBoing had a post a while ago showing a tiny stamp to strike out the word “God” from paper money:

godlessmoney.jpg

Which prompted Kim Moser to suggest the following FSM stamp:

fsmstamp2.jpg

Here’s what I want to know: how many people would be interested in a money stamp? We could have them made if there’s enough interest.

    maxy,

Your last comment “if you can’t see the FSM then how come there is a picture of it on the website…… idiot”, has completely convinced me that you’ve been putting me on. And to think I spent my lunch hour making fun of you! Well, either the joke is on me, or you ate a lot of paint chips as a child – either way, you can forget about answering my question. And say hi to the folks at Hogwarts for me.

    Caped Crusader,

What we have here is a difference of understanding on what constitutes complex life. Bacteria is complex life. Not in comparison to humans, but bacteria are still highly complex organisms.
    .
Redi’s experiment was indeed focussed on complex life. He observed the rotting of meat and hatching of maggots. That is complex life.
    .
Simple life would be a self replicating organic molecule with the potential to mutate. Something which Redi would not even have knowledge of in 17th century.
    .
Pasteur later did similar experiments with bacteria and yeast, but it is still complex life that was being tested.
    .
You might want to read up a bit yourself. .-)

the reason you compare spontaneous generation with evolution is simple. life had to come somewhere. that’s not what evolution is about. evolution is about how natural selection and how species change over time. i’ll let you do the research. go to wikipedia and type in ‘timeline of evolution’. it is very well documented and includes many facts that are supported by scientists. if that doesn’t show you how evolution is possible, then i know you’ll ignore the facts.

    Max,
    .
Harsh words. Is name calling really necessary? I’ve been civil with you. Why do you feel the need to be so rude?
    .
I assume from your posts that you are a Christian. Correct me if I am wrong. As stated earlier, I made the comparison to Jesus. We cannot see Jesus, yet we have pictures of him. As the story goes, the long-haired, kind-faced popular rendering of jesus was created by a painter (I do not know his name) who received divine inspiration from God. The pictures of the FSM on this website, are products of the divine inspiration given to Bobby Henderson. I don’t see the problem.
    .
Keep in mind that the FSM is an omnipotent being. His true form may be incomprehensible to us. His incarnation in the form of spaghetti is simply how he chose to reveal himself to us.
    .
I hope this clears things up. BTW, I’m curious. Which college do you attend?

If the FSM wants, he can turn visible. Also, how do you know what your god looks like? Did he come to you and say that he was a big white bearded guy? if he did, it would be a rather disgusting vanity thing. I mean; world hunger, wars, diseases, religious fundamentalism… wouldn’t his time be better spent solving them then… oh, wait. the plauges and such.
The FSM doesn’t take time off unless he REALLY needs to. I mean, I don’t think he has yet impregnated any “virgins”.
as to the scientific formulae, people didn’t invent them. They discovered them. those formulae would work just as well before they were discovered as after. I think it would be a bit strange if ‘god’ invented scientific evidence that could so easily disprove him.
and by the way, gods were invented by humans. don’t believe me? ah well.
I figure christianity has a couple hundred more years before it is forgotten, just like all the other “true” religions. have fun in your knowledge that there is no evidence that can not be blindly ignored!

Bones in the sea, other stuff that might fit stories in the Bible? Sounds like seeing the face of Christ in a piece of toast to me. Ships went down frequently 2000 or 3000 years ago. Their technology was crude. Facts can be manipulated to support theories even though the evidence is circumstantial at best. I think I see Jesus reflecting off of the back of a stop sign. It is a miracle! The problem with miracles though, is that they are yet another example of fitting interpretations of natural phenomena into your own little narrow box of world-view.

I have never claimed to know what my god looks like, nor have any others who belive as I do, I can’t help that artists feel they need to portray the unportrayable. And yes, “gods” were created by humans….”God” and “Jesus” created themselves. If you cared to read earlier on, I did prove evidence, an there is much more evidence. Christianity has been around since the beggining of time. I seriously doubt that after having a heavy influence on this earth for as long as man can comprehend, that it would just be forgotten in a hundred years or so…Now this religion, I’d give a month or two. Have fun in your knowledge that everything you said was false and had no point.

THE NILE IS A RIVER, not the Red Sea. The Egyptians were NOT very good sailors. The greeks and Romans were. The Egyptians became good at sailing when the Romans came to overthrow them. Sure the sunken bones and chariots aren’t proof of God, but the validate at least part of the story in the Bible.

All of this is provided by scientists, where do scientists get their information from?..computers. We humans are not perfect, therefore, ir is impossible for us to create something perfect. For all we know, we have created a machine to make hypothetical guesses. I never said the bible was a scientific document, I’m glad it isn’t, because scientists are also the ones who said the world was flat, also the ones who said we would never be able to reach the moon. That’s a wonderful story, Max. Seriously, it’s a very comforting thing to believe isn’t it?
    .
Mind if I add my person commentary?
    .
God created man. God created all the plants and animals, which would include the tree of knowledge and the serpent. The serpent coaxed Eve to eat of the tree of knowledge and so began the cycle of sin. For this, God punished Adam, Eve, and all their descendents.
    .
Out of His love for man, God sent the Holy Ghost, which was actually God, but not exactly, to impregnate a virgin, Mary. Mary gave birth to Jesus, who was also God, but not exactly. Jesus was then crucified and resurrected to pay for our sins. Now all we need to do is to believe and all is forgiven.
    .
Synopsis: God creates man. God creates sin. God tempts man. Man fails. God punishes man for being imperfect (apparently by design). God creates Jesus. God kills Jesus. All better now.
    .
Hmmm. Your story sounds much better. Let’s go with that one.

We are all imperfect, and everything we create is imperfect including religion and science. Does that mean religion and science are bad for us? The scientific method allows for corrections in science just as the US government allows for admendments. Science is evolving as our knowledge expands.
    .
Religion is a failed attempt at science, but religion is not bad for us. It is good to have morals, standards in life, and fear some sort of retribution for your sins. However, religion should not be taught as science.

“Religion is a failed attempt at science, but religion is not bad for us. It is good to have morals, standards in life, and fear some sort of retribution for your sins.”
    .
    Horse hockey!
    .
It has been debated very effectively and demostrated through social experiments and surveys that religion is not a better source of morality. Religious people can be moral, but so can atheists. Surveys say (in my best Richard Dawson voice) all other factors being equal, atheists are likely to be more honest and moral than their religious counterparts. Shocking but true.
    .
Which is better, to act morally because you fear the great supernatural camera in the sky or to act morally simply because it is the right thing to do?
    .

It’s my own form of social protest.
A letter printed on paper than no one will destroy
passed indiscriminately across race, class and gender lines
and written in the blood that keeps the beast alive.
    A quiet little hijacking
on the way to the check-out counter
    And a federal crime.

Definetly! Religion is not a science and is mearly a belief held by members of the church, or dare I say, cult. Religion has held throughout the years, covering up secrets, and brainwashing cultures of the world. The church itself has done terrible things. The church has been directly responsible for murder, stealing, and the prosecution of members from various religions. Religion should not be taught as a science because who knows if it’s true. Blind faith is not enough for some. Science offers proof and people find comfort in knowing what they believe is absolutely true. Which is better: doing the right thing because you are afraid of the wrath of an omniscient being, or doing something because of your own moral belief. Personally I believe the latter of the two.

Perhaps the small red one that looks like the fsm to stamp over the word God would be good for many.’I’ wouldn’t buy that though, as I can already draw a little red FSM with a pen over god, and my parents really wouldn’t approve…( which usually doesn’t matter) but as I come from a family of mostly very religous people, I don’t want them to think I don’t believe in god lol… and the FSM stamp would be a give away.

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
