FSM Money Stamp

dollarwide1.jpg

Nick Jones came up with this FSM money stamp. It covers up “In God We Trust” and replaces it with “In Pasta We Trust”. I like it.

Closeup: dollarwide2.jpg

BoingBoing had a post a while ago showing a tiny stamp to strike out the word “God” from paper money:

godlessmoney.jpg

Which prompted Kim Moser to suggest the following FSM stamp:

fsmstamp2.jpg

Here’s what I want to know: how many people would be interested in a money stamp? We could have them made if there’s enough interest.

This rocks. US money is bland, that’s why they put god on it, so we could deface it.
Countries like Canada, our money is very nice looking, so we don’t put god on it.
I’d pay money for a stamp, but I’m broke (moth flies out of wallet)
If I go around and preach in the name of FSM, can I get one to promote?

I like the idea, but I wonder how effective at spreading the word it would be. You stamp the bills, spend them at the shop, the shop’s daily take is deposited in the bank, and the bank promptly shreds the bills to keep defaced tender out of circulation. Just a thought. Still like the idea though.

You should definately mass produce FSM stamps! That would be awesome. But I, too, was wondering if that would be illegal..

But if you make it I’ll buy. :)

I’m curious how large this Flying Spaghetti Menace is. The Jesus hunt was OK but the guy turned out to be such a pussy that the end was more like putting him out of his misery than ridding the word of a dangerous character. This noodly guy looks like he might be more tough and I’m going to propose him for a future hunt. To do this, I need to estimate what kind of ammunition is best to deal with Him. 308? 50 BMG? Do I need to move up to RPG’s with thermobaric warheads? Your cooperation will be appreciated.

Please don’t try to insult me by claiming your god is invincible. I’ve heard it all before about thousands of Gods that don’t exist anymore.

I’d buy one, it’s a great way to advertise without being seen vandalising, and from what I understand, th UK aren’t as fussy about it than the US is…

In UK the max penalty appears to be £200, but even more ridiculous, in the US you can get 6 months…

if you make a rally small one thta fits in the corner, then that’d be ok i suppose, not defacing as much as ammending to, and if they say that religous views cannot be expressed on money, then they should get wikipedia to change us from a ‘parody’ religion to a real riligion…

hey, americans, make sure you smuggle some propganda into the prison with you…

No Roderick were not that kind of religion, were proposing that you stamp your money at home. That way you still get to spend it.

JonE, seriously, Darwin is on the 10 pound note? Thats awesome! We generally like to put old dead racists on our money.

Apparently the apple can sometimes fall really really really really really really really far from the tree. We had the right idea around the revolutionary war, but how did you guys shoot light years ahead of us in this respect?

putting Charles Darwin on the british £10 note was one of the best recent (well, a few years ago now) decisions of the british labour government.
    .
but according to christian dogma, isn’t money intrinsically linked to Mammon, the arch-demon of profit? in fact, didn’t Jesus tell a wealthy man that in order to achieve peace he must give away all of his things?
    .
so isn’t putting “in god we trust” on legal tender kind of…heretical? you know, i always thought that the Republican party was bankrolled by immortal manifestations of ancient cosmic evil. makes sense, in a way.

    Bad bad bad move.
    .
I would endorse blacking out “In God We Trust”, but replacing it with the FSM and the website address is going to cause problems. Defacing US currency is an iffy area, but advertising a website on it is a definite no-no.
    .
It won’t accomplish anything positive and will only create the image of the CoFSM as vandals.

I think Kim Moser’s minimalist version is ideal.

One Eyed Jack: remove the images of the stamps being used on actual dollars, and I don’t see how it could be a problem. Maybe a money stamp is illegal (I don’t know, it might not be?), but a stamp surely isn’t.

The trick is you can do it, you just can’t spend it afterward. You can’t do it with fraudulent intent. Remember all those penny smashers at the parks and fairs? Same thing. You just can’t try to spend it after…

Make a stamp without a website. Sell for use on anything but money. Advertise it like this.

“New FSM Stamp! Use it on letters, use it on people, use it to mark all that the FSM created including midgets!!! Just do not under any circumstance use it to cover up “in God We trust” on U.S. bills. This is illegal and not endorsed by the FSM. Seriously do not do this!”

Of course then we will do just that because we have to! Oh yea and delete this post, its incriminating.

I’m all for the impetus behind the suggestion, but I’m not entirely sure that this is actually a great idea. It only takes one uninformed moron somewhere on the Net to blab to the world that this “bizarro cult” (as they would no doubt put it) is running an anti-America campaign by defacing money, and the “In God We Trust” label. As you well know by the volumes of hate mail the Prophet gets from the legions of moronic imbeciles out there, there would be all too many of these people who would actually believe that. The last thing this site needs is new torrents of abuse and bad P.R.

so do i, but its definately illegal, however, the government doesnt really enforce it except for destroying the money once it reaches a bank. They also wouldnt know who stamped the money unless they read this site, and even then they would just know stamps were being sold. They have more important things to do anyway. All money should be stamped w/HIS image.

I have an “atheist money” stamp that I use, and while the money may eventually get destroyed, it is still frequently circulated a little before it finds its way to the bank. As for being illegal to stamp, I realize constitutional rights are in danger these days, but I see this as a free speech issue. The govt shouldn’t be endorsing any sort of god. They are lucky the FSM is a kind and benevolent sort who won’t smite them down.

Sounds like a stocking stuffer to me. I would buy one. Especially if it had the website address on it.
Having been a cashier, I can say from experience that stamped smaller bills would tend to stay in circulation longer. Although I think we would attract a fair amount of crit from kooks and fundies….I can’t help but think of all the happiness we would spread to those folks that have been looking for a community like this. My own joy is renewed daily when I consume the humor and digest the information and arguments for later use in debates with thin skinned zealots.

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
