straw-man fallacy

Basic Straw-man Fallacy… They put up this stupid straw-man that nobody in their right mind would believe in(Pastafarian Religon) and then falliciously equate it to a real belief(Intelligent Design) that is supported by many scientists, in an attempt to refute that belief.

it’s true, you know. once someone becomes convinced that the underlying problems of the universe come from moral, rather than physical causes, they cease to believe that anything outside of their worldview could be accurate, or even worth considering. that’s why the current american government is making no effort whatsoever to create a sustainable society, instead just pillaging the earth of its resources. after all, the only way that the world’s problems will be cured is if Jebus were to descend from the clouds and put everything right.

the sin of Adam and Eve set entropy in motion and created the uncaring, atheistic universe in which we live…what utter bullshit.

I know and in actual fact I probably wouldn’t waste my time. I really would rather they keep spouting ignorance. Just get s tempting sometimes. Hey I don’t know if you’ve read this, but I immediately thought of you as I was reading this article on the Dawkins site:
    The God Experiments
    http://richarddawkins.net/home
“……Volunteers also reported visions that did not fit neatly into Strassman’s scientific or spiritual worldview, however. Forty-seven percent encountered otherworldly beings, variously described as clowns, elves, robots, insects, E.T.-style humanoids, or “entities” that defied description. These bizarre beings were not always friendly. One of Strassman’s subjects claimed to have been eaten alive by insectoid creatures. In part out of concern about this negative experience, Strassman discontinued his research.”

That is also another of my pet hates reguarding the xtians, (main one being indoctrination of their kids) their pig ignorant attitude of taking no responsibility for anything. Complete and utter oxygen thieves!

@Anna - he’s busy chewing my shoe at the moment. Which is a damned site better than his toe fetish. Puppy teeth are sharp. Very sharp!

@Saucy. It’s wonderful when a group of people don’t judge others on their past. A group that neither cares nor asks!
    .
Strangely, the only person to enquire about my past was Saint. Dr. M.Martin PhD, ThM.
    .
Now, I know I shouldn’t have taken the bait - Penne, that’s what I meant by ‘he is winning’ - but I did. I might, also, have been asking for it in a ‘wind him up and watch him go’ kind of way.
    .
However, I was lead to believe that christianity was non-judgmental, that all are equal in the eyes of the lord etc. To have a screen name of “Dr M.M” is a serious attempt at setting yourself above others.

That last para was at Dr. MM.

The artcle is about scientific experiments conducted to measure brain activity during religous experience. The one I referred to is at bottom of article.

Being radically unqualified (in anything) but insatiably curious, i’m one of those that goes to all the links, reads the articles, gets the dictionaries out and makes up his own mind. So far all the answers coming from non-IDiots lead back to hard proven science with definable results. All the ID ‘truth’ comes back to becausegodsaidso. Totally unsatisfying. But one thing i’ve noticed about ID is their magnanimity in admitting that it needn’t have been God that created it all, just something with all the omnis in the right place. So let’s do what pirates do and hijack ID. Take all their ‘evidence’, tell them they were quite right, only it was the FSM. They can’t deny it, because ID being right has nothing to do with the bible being right, right?
Seperate the church from state, science, prime-time television and door-to-door selling opportunities, then leave it in the wilderness.

@Penne, BTW, sorry, but they didn’t burn “witches” in Salem. All but one “witch” was hanged. The remaining one was pressed to death. However, I’m sure the Inquisitors loved them very much, in Ghod’s name.

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
