straw-man fallacy

Basic Straw-man Fallacy… They put up this stupid straw-man that nobody in their right mind would believe in(Pastafarian Religon) and then falliciously equate it to a real belief(Intelligent Design) that is supported by many scientists, in an attempt to refute that belief.

I can find some evidence that YECS accepts that Evolution does not even address…..funny enough though, I can’t seem to find any evidence for Evolution that YECS does not accept to be valid (just wrongly interpreted with no objective standard to go by).

Thats great you have these credentials.

I have a PHD in Neuroscience, a second PHD from Yale in Molecular and Cell Biology, and a third ThM from Talbot Seminary (the school that Josh McDowell attended).

I wish you the best on your exams :). Keep working hard at it. Those are great subjects you’ve got there.

@Nice Dr MM -. Thanks nice Dr.M really appreciated. I really need to keep off this site - mind you, the exams are ages away!
    .
@The Other Dr MM. _ I never told you about my degrees.. Why did you feel it necessary
to tell me about yours? You never know, I might be Dr Alchemist??

    Dr Martin,
you are clearly a highly educated man with very strong faith in your christian convictions.
    .
there are a great many more equally or more highly educated men and women who do not share your conviction, and who subscribe to the atheistic worldview. among an entire strata of individuals whose purpose is to seek the truth behind the universe (scientists) it should be somewhat telling as to the solidity of the available evidence, when we see which theory has the greater subscription.
    .
please do not accuse me of ignorance with regards to the christian position. i am a former christian myself, and it is mostly through objectivity and NOT taking all i was told at face value, that i eventually came to reject the notions of faith. but i am quite familiar with christianity and the bible, and in my view your holy book is one of the most barbaric collections of literature in the world today. short of fundamentalist islam, i can think of no other system of beliefs which carries such an inherant martyr complex. history only shows that when religion attains political power, technological and scientific advancement slow to a crawl. when this earth finally dies, i would rather see mankind able to leave and colonise other worlds, than sitting here praying to an impotent god.

Well. I for one am disgusted in myself for biting at Dr M.Martins (not the nice one).
    .
My qualifications are irrelevant on this site. As they damned well should be.
    .
I had a worm dangled in front of me and bit! (OEJ - don’t. :-))
    .
As penance for my whatever, I shall force myself to drink eight tinnies of Stella.

And may god have mercy upon my soul?

    .
This is what your posts look like to us, Dr Martin. So, let’s talk about you. Did your wife leave you after you had your breakdown? I see you didn’t lose your job. Something led up to your epiphany. Please tell us what it was, if you feel like disclosing something other than your bland prosetylizations.

Dr .. on the basis that there’s no such thing as a stupid question, I’ve got a handful of vaguely scientific queries that I’d be grateful for your perspective on. Forgive my impertinence, but it’s highly unusual to find a real life scientist both able and willing to communicate openly with simple folk like myself.
    -
    1. What is God made of? Can we ever know in theory, if not in practice?
    -
    2. Is God subject to the ‘Natural Laws’? Forgive me if this is not a technically correct term, but I have seen it used on several Christian web sites, where it seems to be used in a scientific sense.
    -
    3. What would happen if God got too close to a black hole?
    -
    4. You mention you came to the rational/logical conclusion that God exists and you also mention the first cause, so I hope the two ideas are linked (forgive me if not). At the risk of putting words in your mouth, would I be correct in assuming that one of the cornerstones of this logical conclusion rests on the fact that every effect has a cause and that the best explanation for the creation of the universe (effect) is God (the cause)? If so, how does vacuum fluctuation (a constantly but randomly occurring effect without a cause) fit into your view? Does God control vacuum fluctuations (is he their cause)? Is God himself a vacuum fluctuation?
    -
I may have more questions, depending on your answers (should you be able to find the time to help me with my stuttering attempt at self-education), and thank you in advance for any pointers you are able to give. Cheers.

    Thanks again nice Dr.M.M.
    .
“Keep working hard at it. Those are great subjects you’ve got there.”
    .
.The problem with thinking for yourself is that you end up questioning everything.
    .
I would rather ask questions than accept someones interpretations.
    .
@Dr M.Martins PhD ThM. I really would be happy to continue this discussion, without silly
piss takes! My spam e-mail is bacchanaliandelight@yahoo.co.uk

    .You know you want to

To “doctor”. When you quoted me you replied thus:
If I had an ego, would I be here associating with as, you claim above, “the FSM site” that I was so “desperate” in trying to debate against? Surely, my ego would have carried me into a more “sophisticated” crowd than you guys, right?
No, that is not neccesarily true. Many people associate with other people they can keep talking at and feel as if they are accomplishing something. Kinda the “big fish in a small pond” type of thing. Not that I think we are a small pond, I think you think we are a small pond.
That being said, please go away. We don’t like you, we DON’T like having you on our site, and your posts are wasting my time. You will never convert us, especially not in this way, so PLEASE JUST LEAVE.

  13. 653 Wench Nikkiee Nov 24th, 2006 at 6:02 pm

For someone hired to debate evolution vs. creationism, this guy uses an awful lot of personal references to himself. Most unprofessional as well as unscientic. I wouldn’t hire him. Those at the molecular biology department here agree. I won’t repeat the rest of the comments made reguarding this guy.

  14. 654 Alchemist Nov 24th, 2006 at 6:10 pm

You haven’t left me a message Doc. I’ve just checked. Why?

  15. 655 Wench Nikkiee Nov 24th, 2006 at 6:11 pm

Dr. Michael Martin Nov 24th, 2006 at 3:08 pm

Darwin’s attempt to make a Philosophical argument out of Naturalism through the use of the Sciences of Natural Selection, Variation and Speciation is what Evolutionary Theory IS all about.
    .
Yes, but where did you find this little gem?
“Its Philosophy states that something can evolve from nothing.”

  16. 656 Alchemist Nov 24th, 2006 at 6:16 pm

Nikkiee makes a good point Doc. Site your references.

All his ideas are fully substantiated by his own opinion.

“The fact that you can’t understand this in no way invalidates my arguments. The principles of logic are still self evident in themselves.”
    .
If you are the only person that understands your logic, then you have a problem Doc! Why don’t you go and have a chat with God? Oh of course… you can’t copy and paste when you pray, can ya?

My position on this matter is this:
    .
Poomba! Spang twasslenotch thrutchburgle spoondinko twum-twum. Foip! Foip! Spamfish curdleknob wah blargle tunkittytunikitty ban ban ban bang! Tonk twonk swonk flonkhonk monk chonk gonk ronk cat hat bat fishbag hatstand badgersack, turgid floatlings beckon.
    .
Ergo, God has never existed, nor could God ever be said to have stood a chance of existing.
    .
The fact that you can’t understand this in no way invalidates my arguments!

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
