you have completely pissed us off

Please do not take any offensive “hate mail” written by Christians as an example of Christianity. We are not very good Christians; we who use words of hate. You must understand, however, that you have completely pissed us off. This site is just stupid. The concept is stupid. I can give you evidence against evolution if you so desire.

I do sort of agree that ID should not be taught in schools, but neither should evolution. It is wrong that evolution, classified as SCIENTIFIC THEORY, is taught as a fact. Teaching evolution in schools is just as offensive to us as teaching ID in schools is to you. We are all people.

The majority of Christians do not want to press our beliefs upon anybody else. The same cannot be said for scientists, it appears. Plus, while Christians want to bring wayward people to God for the wayward people’s sake, scientists want to study and elaborate on evolution because they think they can discover something wonderful and get rich off of it. So, there is still a difference between the two sides.

I think this whole fight is futile. It is written that God’s children will be hated by all, and I can see that’s the way it’s going. Everybody hates Christians…

I know arguing about this won’t do any good, because you can’t make people listen if they don’t want to. HOWEVER…

“I do sort of agree that ID should not be taught in schools, but neither should evolution. It is wrong that evolution, classified as SCIENTIFIC THEORY, is taught as a fact. Teaching evolution in schools is just as offensive to us as teaching ID in schools is to you. We are all people.”

Okay…. so first off, the whole point of science is that it’s the current best idea we have about what’s going on. It’s really quite impossible to PROVE any scientific theory correctly… you can support it with evidence, or find contradictory evidence and disprove it and go on to refine the theory to accommadate said new evidence. So… the argument that evolution should not be taught in schools based on the face that it is a THEORY completely misses the point and shows a real ignorance for the scientific method. For a nice example of changing theories, I would suggest the history of the model of the atom. I think it’s pretty commonly taught in high school science classes… you begin with the “billiard ball” model and work your way up to the current electron-shell model that we believe to be most correct today. If no theories were allows in schools, there would be no science class at all. Or economics. Or a number of other subjects.

“The majority of Christians do not want to press our beliefs upon anybody else.”

As a former atheist (having now been enlightened to the wonders of FSM), I can give personal evidence to the contrary. I think it is, perhaps, worse with atheists… somehow atheism is less tolerable than simply a different religion, but really a lot of Christians DO press their beliefs… sometimes without really realizing it.

“The same cannot be said for scientists, it appears.”

Scientific belief is based on observable evidence. Religious belief is based on faith (the Bible does not count as evidence… otherwise, I think I have pretty strong evidence for the existence of hobbits… or Hogwarts School). And as the whole point of scientific research is to increase the knowledge of our whole race, it doesn’t seem unreasonable that they should share their findings with the world. Besides, I’ve never heard of any evolutionary missions trips.

“Plus, while Christians want to bring wayward people to God for the wayward people’s sake, scientists want to study and elaborate on evolution because they think they can discover something wonderful and get rich off of it.”

I can understand that Christians may feel they are helping people… after all, they do believe that non-believers are going to have a pretty rough time after death. However, it is only in the eyes of the CHRISTIANS that these people are wayward… so you can see how it would still be mildly annoying. I mean, suppose I was a devout FSM member who happened to overlook the bit about not trying to convert people because the FSM isn’t really that vain… wouldn’t you be a little irritated if I kept trying to slap a pirate hat on you? Even if it was “in your interest”?

And as to the idea that scientists study evolution because they can get rich? That’s laughable… NO ONE who enters a pure scientific field does it for the money. Why? Because there ISN’T ANY. A scientist will likely be able to make a decent living, but he or she will definitely NOT be shopping for a personal island anytime soon. Scientists are scientists because they love their work and have a genuine desire to “discover something wonderful,” as you said.

RAmen for sounding a wise scientific voice. Stick around if you like, I think you’ll like it here.

1: The concept is almost exactly the same as your concept of God. And don’t even think about saying, “It isn’t a concept it’s the truth,” because I could say the same freaking thing about my religion.
2: Evolution is a science. ID isn’t. I hope you understand that, at least.
3: I can’t even count how many Christians have tried to convert me. You must be an idiot if you think most Christians don’t press their beliefs on others.
4: Scientists want to try to understand the Universe around us. You believe you already do understand it all. God isn’t the answer to everything, the same can be said for science.
    .
I don’t think you understand that ID is beginning to be taught in science classes. ID isn’t a science! You can’t pose it as a science, because that’s just stupid! If one could do that, teaching science wouldn’t exist in the first place! Get it into your heads!

Wow. that’s one of the more intelligent hate mails i’ve seen.

    Well done.

I think this short video will explain the definition of ‘scientific theory’. You may find it useful. I feel it is very important as there is a mass misconception of what scientific theory is. The scientists in this short video explain it far better that I could so here you go.
