bobby, your site is amusing

Bobby, your site is amusing, and I can agree that ID does not belong in science classes. However, I also believe that Evolution does not belong in science classes for much the same reason. Let’s stick to chemistry, physics and biology based on the scientific theory.

Just use plain old “evolution.” I hate when people think they can have their cake and eat it too: accept all of science, except for evolutionary biology. Evolution is as much a part of science as astronomy or geology; you just can’t single it out. “I believe 2+2 is 4 and 4+4=8 but I just won’t believe 40+2 = 42!!!!”

you know…all fact tought in science class is just a theory. It takes Decades for a theory to be developed. It needs to be tested and compared. Gravity is only a theory bu nobod has any problem with that being tought because it does not threaten a God’s power. Because Evolution poses a threat to creationist beliefe they draw attention to the fact that it is a theory. EVERYTHING IN SCIENCE CLASS IS A THEORY. This is because science is always sarching for the truth. Until they find it for definate they stck with the apparant truth. Like how it is apparant that sodium reacts with water for a number of reasons.

Just to contribute a bit more to the spirit of jolly nitpickery that this thread has gotten suffused with, I would have said that “theory” (in science) refers to any coherent structure of observations and prediction schemes (often mathematics) that fit new observations and answer questions effectively. The “just a theory” slogan – as used by creationists – merely reflects their ignorance. Depending on the strength or status of something less than a theory, “speculation”, “conjecture”, and “hypothesis” are appropriate. Quantum theory is a theory, and it explains an enormous number of facts and is a tool for building an enormous number of devices (like lasers and transistors). It is applicable in situations where classical mechanics is not. But classical mechanics is *still* a theory and it is quite good, say, for predicting the orbits of the planets or the flight of airplanes. Ditto for the theory of thermodynamics. I think Einstein said that – in its realm of applicability – thermodynamics would never be overthrown. (Although, of course, he launched the expansion of many narrower theories into the realm of relativity and gravitation!). But don’t bother to push such notions toward ID-ers and creationists, I think “Go and f**k yourself!” a far more apt answer….

why can’t the world just accept evolution.

  4. Mad John Kidd says:

Fortunately, evolution has happened, is happening, and will continue to happen whether anyone of us meager humans is around to witness it, or not.
