Please do not take any offensive “hate mail” written by Christians as an example of Christianity. We are not very good Christians; we who use words of hate. You must understand, however, that you have completely pissed us off. This site is just stupid. The concept is stupid. I can give you evidence against evolution if you so desire.
I do sort of agree that ID should not be taught in schools, but neither should evolution. It is wrong that evolution, classified as SCIENTIFIC THEORY, is taught as a fact. Teaching evolution in schools is just as offensive to us as teaching ID in schools is to you. We are all people.
The majority of Christians do not want to press our beliefs upon anybody else. The same cannot be said for scientists, it appears. Plus, while Christians want to bring wayward people to God for the wayward people’s sake, scientists want to study and elaborate on evolution because they think they can discover something wonderful and get rich off of it. So, there is still a difference between the two sides.
I think this whole fight is futile. It is written that God’s children will be hated by all, and I can see that’s the way it’s going. Everybody hates Christians…

ID is like a cigarette company for several reasons;
.
It is bad for you.
.
The science it spouts is discredited by the vast majority of the scientific community.
.
It spends more time and money on PR than proving it’s claims.
.
However, what is probably the most telling of all, it survives purely through the addiction of existing consumers.

I can see where you’re coming from, and I agree with you, but I’d rather stay Jewish. What’s wrong with perpetuating a religion like Judaism? Although you can be just as good a person with or without a religion, abandoning your religion is, to me, the same as abandoning your past. For as far back as can be measured, my family (on my Dad’s side at least) has been Jewish. Why should I abandon it? I’d rather preserve my cultural identity as a Jew.
The Jewish people arose in the ancient middle-east – the most fought-over region of the world, and survived there. The middle-east has been the graveyard of many cultures – Babylonians, Sumerians, Hittites, Assyrian – to name a few.
Then, after the Diaspora, they spread throughout the world, to face persecution and intolerence wherever we went, but, throughout it all, they have not only managed to remain a self-defined ethnic group, but are able to trace a continous history back more than four thousand years! In addition to that, in spite of persecution, we have managed to produce some of the greatest minds the world has ever seen – Albert Einstein, Woody Allen, Sigmund Freud, Calvin Klein, Henry Kissinger, Steven Spielberg, Larry King, Henry Houdini – the list goes on. I am honoured to be a Jew, and take great pride in my heritage. Against all the odds, we have survived, while many of our opressers have failed and no longer exist.
That is all ^^

lol, why do christians have to make it all about themselves.
When we say the word “God” we mean any god, not just yours. It could be Allah, Krishna, Buddha, Ra, L Ron Hubbard.. or whatever else.
You’re not the only religion in the world with a God.

So there you go, Yet Another Christian, there you fucking go. Your religion IS taught in schools already. Stop complaining about evolution being taught as fact, which it is not anyway. When i learned it, it was always referred to as Theory. Just like gravity *rolls eyes*

Maybe you missed the whole point here…
If I may take a page from the book of the Apathetic Agnostics, There is no way to prove that there is, or is not, a supreme power. If there is a supreme power (a god) governing our existance, then this “god” appears to be ambivalent toward the future states of our cultures or lives. “God” is, according to the christians, omnipotent. Therefore, “god” is either capable of changing the state of our lives, and is actively doing so, or “god” is ambivalent to the outcome of our species. If god is ambivalent to our happiness and survival, then must be ambivalent to the state of our beliefs, as well (As I am sure “god” is not a hypocrite).
If God exists, God appears to be ambivalent to our survival.
If God will not offer proof of it’s own existance, then there is no evidence to neither support nor discredit God’s existance.
Therefore, all forms of worship, to any incopporeal diety, are to be considered equally valid and plausible, or just as equally invalid and implausible.
In Conclusion:
God=Flying Spaghetti Monster=David Bowie.
If all aspects of all of these “Gods” were to be taken into account and put into an easily reviewable form:
God: Fire, Brimstone, and an overal low chance of eternal paradise
FSM: Pirates, Stripper Factory, free beer, and an overall high chance of achieving eternal paradise.
Bowie: Following the Religious Path of the sexiest artist of the 1980’s, and the hair.
given these varietal, but altogether equal forms of belief, FSMism is, by far, the most appealing.

anthrobabe,if you really do have a STAPH infection in your foot this may help as it got helped get rid of the one on my hand:Take 2 tea bags,a spoonful of ground ginger, and 1 of cinnamon,a pinch of rosmary(crushed in your hand)and bring to a biol in a half full pot of water, keep a close eye on this as it tends to boil over as soon as I turn my back, remove from heat and pour into a bucket adding as much water to make it comfortable to put your feet in and a generous squirt of lemon juice if you’ve got it. You can check this out with your doctor and remember to take ALL of your pills right till the end even if it seems better or it may come back more resistant then before. You can use this recipe every day I find it works best right before bedtime. P.S. , Make sure you stay warm while soaking and after your done as not to get a chill, hope this helps.

I rather like the Universal Church Triumphant of the Apathetic Agnostic too.
.
A bit on epistemology: Any declarative statement about something excludes some aspect of that thing. This is incompatible with omnipotence. If, for example, you say “That ball is Red”, you exclude the possibility that it is also “Not Red.” There is no room in your logic, then, for a ball that can be simultaneously “Red” and “Not Red.”
.
Similarly, to say “God exists” is to limit God from also not existing. Yet this God is omnipotent, no? He should be able to both exist and not exist, else He’s not truly omnipotent.
.
In short, one cannot constrain a deity to function within the limits of human logic. That’s not a statement about the nature of that deity, merely a limitation on what can be said about an omnipotence.
.
If that sounds like sophistic claptrap, congratulations. That’s the point. To require an omnipotence to behave in a fashion that you can understand is astoundingly arrogant. Nothing can be said about the nature of such a being; not even omnipotence. For can It not also be not-omnipotent simultaneously?
.
So why bother arguing about something so beyond your ken? Relax, have a homebrew, Don’t Panic, and praises be unto the Invisible Pink Unicorn (who may simultaneously be the FSM and not the FSM, and may also not simultaneously be the FSM and the IPU.)

You see I completely disagree. Christianity is a good thing. I have nothing against Christianity. It has some very good moral values and awesome lessons. It’s the actual CHRISTIANS that I have something against. That religion has been taken WAY too seriously…so here’s a cool, fun way to remind them that religion isn’t all there is to life. (At least, that’s how I’ve interpreted it. There may be many other, just as good interpretations.)
I am an FSM believer….my Halloween pumpkin proves it.

“Can’t the ball be red and not red if your color-blind???….?”
.
Cute response. You’ve missed the central point, though. (Probably intentionally, but I tend to be a bit oblivious to intentional snark.)
.
Basically, any logical exercise must start off with the assumption that the elements being discussed must behave according to the dictates of logic. Otherwise, you’ve got nowhere to go; it’s hopeless.
.
Once you invoke omnipotence, you’ve thrown that assumption out the window.
.
Of course, one can opt for a different sort of proof than mathematical. The only other accepted system is a scientific one; one that requires evidence and does not allow for magical escape hatches like infinite beings.
.
Faith? How nice for you. But it’s really not transferable, and so it’s a waste of breath to try to instill one’s own gnostic revelations in another. All you’ll manage to do is annoy them.

AQUA-MARI…????

Now see here you twisted little diagonally-cut tubular skank! “Red” encompasses Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah, Lemberger, and the blessed Chianti, to name a few. “Not-Red” has elements of White (Reisling, Gewurztraminer, Semillon, e.g.), Rose, and Blush… But NOWHERE is there room in the pan-oenon for aqua-frikkin’-marine! That’s just perverted.
.
I don’t know. Kids these days. You try to instill some simple plain-thinking logic in them and they go all pastel on you. “Aqua-marine”indeed! .
.
The little twerp claims to be Penne, but I’ll bet dollars to gnocchi he’s utterly rigate. Probably broke his mother’s heart having the ridges carved in some back-alley Trattoria parlor. They’re a primary vector for the spread of marinara-borne pathogens, but the health department does nothing about them.

Very well. If your question was sincere and you missed the whimsy and satire in my little “rant:, I apologise.
.
It matters not whether one can see the “Red”ness of the article in question. The point is that any description is necessarily a limitation on what the article can be. This is diametrically at odds with omnipotence. Once something is deemed omnipotent, no further description can be made of it.
.
Andno, that is not a Zen Buddhist thing. It’s straightforward logic. Think of it as the Ghost of David Hume cutting away the underbrush with the sword of Kurt Goedel.

nikkiee,
Thats what almost everyone is here to do. Some Christian writes an angry email, calling the wrath of God down on all of us, and then the forum proceeds to pick away at every word in the letter, and tries to discredit the person who wrote the email based on spelling, grammar, lack of proof, calling him or her a closed-minded victim of their parents’ teaching… Some people go so far as to break it down line by line.
Anyone who speaks to their own intelligence is not worth listening to. By all means, argue with me. I’m willing to hear anyone out who something worthwhile to say. But don’t tell me your GPA and expect that to close the argument.
The same goes for Christians who quote the Word of God at me or at anyone else. When you bring in an authority like that, there is no more debate. “Jesus says no” is not a valid counter to the gay marriage or abortion questions.

You jump aboard our pirate ship spouting your superiority over others and then feign innocence. You claim to “know kids just like you and have no time for them or their grandiose language” then proceed to post numerous defamatory comments at these very kids that you have no time for. By calling Orthodox Agnostic a moron, you do “pretend to be speaking from some sort of authority.” Therefore, nickiee’s inquiry is a valid one. Why are you here? Are you having problems at home?

I don’t feign any ignorance. I don’t feign any superiority either. I don’t need to be an authority to tell Orthodox Agnostic that he is a moron. I can do it man to man and give him the reasons why I believe he is a moron. You are doing the same to me. I’m no better than you. I directed one comment at the kid whose type I claimed to have no time for, and then made time to direct more at different types.
My problems at home have nothing to do with my being here.
Would you prefer if I foamed at the mouth, signed in as “Jesus Loves You” and told you I would laugh when your ass was kicked into hell, that I would pray for you and your blasphemous sins, tell you that evolution is just one big lie after another and recommend that you read “The Case for Christ”? Now that would be grounds for assuming problems at home.
