UC Davis Pastafarians

On Sept 19th, a good portion of UC Davis was introduced to the Pastafarian faith. These are the photos of the event.

Thanks very much to Ray and Mario for Spreading the Word.  Ray’s description follows:

100_0717.jpg At the ready, with Gospel in hand.

100_0718.jpg Looking for potential pastafarians.

100_0719.jpg Still looking …

100_0720.jpg Our poster board.

100_0721.jpg Walking away from a failed conversation.

100_0722.jpg Catching up with this guy.

100_0723.jpg This guy was just touched by His noodly appendage.

100_0724.jpg This dude wanted nothing to do with me, but his girlfriend made him stay.

100_0725.jpg Looking over there…

100_0726.jpg These guys were just as confused about our faith, as they were about my attire.

100_0727.jpg Looking for another convert.

FSM was mentioned by Richard Dawkins (Ph.D.)when he was interview by Jeremy Paxman on Newsnight Book Club (BBC, 22SEP06)about his book The God Delusion.

Paxman: I was struck by one sentence in your book, in the middle of it, “God almost certainly does not exist”. You are leaving open the possibility that he does.

Dawkins: Of course, any scientist will leave open that possibility. You can’t absolutely disprove the existance of anything. Just as we can’t disprove the existance of Bobby Henderson’s The Flying Speghetti Monster. We can’t be dogmatic and say for for certain God doesn’t exist, but it is just as unlikely as Thor with his hammer.

I have some pictures from another Pastafarian party here in Davis. We even had a (root) Beer volcano! Everyone dressed as pirates to help stop global warming too.

Where can I send the pictures?

i think uc davis invented the tasteless machine-pickable tomato.

a theologian will have to comment on the relationship between tasteless firm tomatoes and spaghetti.

    Jamespolka,
    .
I think this is a case of imperfect man meddling with perfect creation. Don’t be disheartened. There are still sources of flavorful tomatoes, though you may have to look a bit harder. Consider it a pilgrimage.

Penne 23:5-6 “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of other pirates: thou anointest my pasta with parmesan; my flagon runneth over. Surely goodness and tasty sauces shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the tavern of the FSM for ever.”

meine Lieber Gott! this psycho university not only developed the machine-pickable tomato, but it’s a hotbed of Intelligent Design activity!

hey, who does all these translations on this site, huh? The turnaround’s really awesome! I like my French! It called the tasteless tomato “insipide”! Oui! Les tomates son insipides vraiment!

    merci pour le Scripture, Jack

    You’re welcome, James.
    .
Again, take heart. The ID group you directed us to is at UC San Diego (surfers and beach bimbos).
    .
UC Davis is where they hide the real scientists. Yes, I know… the tomato scientists too. Don’t be too harsh with them. There is a fine microbrewery called Sudwerks right near the campus, so they can’t be all bad.

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
