Talk like a pirate day

September 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

This is important for a number of reasons, but for Pastafarians it provides a convenient source of pirate-behavior data to substantiate the Pirates Vs. Temperature correlation which serves as a keystone of our religion. We expect to see a considerable drop in temperature worldwide on Tuesday the 19th, due to the widespread pirate activity taking place.

I will be collecting quantitative temperature data via the interwebs, but if you have anecdotal (or specious) evidence of unseasonably cold weather, please describe it for us as a comment to this post.

Also, if you’ve done anything amazingly piratey today, please leave a comment about it. We all need to do our part to reverse Global Warming.

You can expect a thorough report of my findings on Wednesday or Thursday.

And on the nineteenth day of September shalt thou speak like unto the holy buccaneers to mourn the decline in pirates which is surely correlated to the rise of global warming. See the following holy chart…

On this holiest of days, declared by the prophet Dave Barry himself, may you be touched my His Noodly Appendage. RAmen.

Please send all your Pastafarian prayers to brother Magus, who is on the University of Central Florida campus today to preach the starchy word of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. He will be distributing packages of the sacrament (beef and shrimp flavors) taped to which are passages from the Holy Book. May he make many converts who will surely someday bask with us in the shadow of the Beer Volcano and ogle with us the beauty created in the Stripper Factory of Paradise.

We have drawn attention to the celebrations of this most wholly piratey day on the Sepia Mutiny blog. All that pirate talk on the blog today makes my piratey heart go all tingly.

I also have the report from Austin on local temperatures :
Sitting here in Austin, I notice that the temperature low today (60 degrees) is far below the lows for the next ten days. We believe that this is because of the response to our call for pirate dressing today. Such a phenomenon is not unique to Austin as can be clearlt seen from the comment left by many believers.

Yesterday the Captain and I celebrated in fine fair fashion. In addtion to much blogging in pirate-speak, as well as spreading the word about slowing Global Warming, I donned my pirate Hello Kitty bandana (Ahoy Kitty, if you will) and we walked down to the waterfront for some lunch. Then we bought some sex toys (because that’s the kind of pirates we are), and later rented Captain Blood and the Black Swan and got a pack of Pirates of the Spanish Main cards.

Temperature data for Portland Maine yesterday…Partly cloudy, slightly breezy; high 78.

In Warren, MI on 9/19/2006 we experienced a high temperature 10 degrees lower than the historical average high temperature for that day. I believe that this is direct evidence linking temperature to pirate activity. On 9/18/2006 (the day before) it was 10 degrees warmer on par with the average for that time of year.

With me coming from Germany, I really was in doubt if our holy master had deserted us, because he let the leader of the Christian Church (you know, that ol’ fella with the giant hat and the night robe) emerge right from our middle. But I am doubting no more, due to the recent events I am here to share with my fellow mateys right now.

As I sailed home from work yesterday it was still uncomfortably warm, and I really worried if all our actions and preparations for the “Talk like a pirate day” were just not enough to impress our master. I fell into bed and had no hope left for our world, for global warming would slowly lead us to certain doom.

But that night, His Noodliness spoke to me in my dream…

Still asleep, I suddenly felt more awake than ever before in my life, but I could tell neither place nor time. I immediatly was overwhelmed with the blessing and spiritual clearness emitting from his sheer presence. He then told me that he was very pleased with our efforts connected to this holy day, and that from now on to the end of the year, he will make the sun rise a little later every morning, and, in addition, he will send it off the sky a little earlier, what will be causing a significant temperature drop over the next months. For reasons I was told not to ask for, he also mentioned that this will first affect the northern region of our planet, while the southern region will get its turn after that.

Enlightened by his presence and inspired by his words, I am here to encourage all of you to continue on our ways, and to face any barriers caused by the ignorant wrath of some unbelievers with patience and compassion. Don’t be fooled by those who threaten our peace loving members with visions of places like ‘hell’, which only they know and care about.

BTW: I asked him while he doesn’t make use of his powers to take any actions against those kind of people, and he told me he was too busy listening to them and laughing his ass off.

    Harr, my mateys…

By the Way… Did anyone see the Wife Swap episode on Monday 9/18? It featured a professional organize trading places with the wife of a family of pirates. Too bad they missed Talk Like a Pirate Day, but I guess the silly networks can’t go around changing their schedules to suit an important holiday like this one. Read a brief bio of the families here (http://abc.go.com/primetime/wifeswap/episode/305/bio.html), if you’re interested. I didn’t realize that the Dad of the Pirate Family was one of the co-founders of Talk Like a Pirate Day. Go figure.

The temperature has droped dramatically here (Northern Indiana). Two days ago it was almost 70 degrees fahrenheit (highest), whereas yesterday it was only 54 degrees fahrenheit(highest)! Now it’s back up to near 60 degrees. It’s good to know people are doing their part in diminishing globle warming.

I have been doing my part to stop global warming by downloading (and, indeed, uploading) pirated software on the net. It just happens to go along with the loose morals thing, too. Oh, and Ohio is cold lately! On the 18th it was 80 degrees, and it’s been steadily dropping to the 50s and 60s. I think we have done our part.

I just wanted to let everyone know that pirates are back. I know on the surface it would appear piracy is at an all time low. However, a recent visit to the Internation Chamber of Commerce, has led me to believe otherwise. I advise everyone to visit their websit and see for themselves:

    http://www.icc-ccs.org/prc/piracyreport.php

You’ll find that not only are Pirates running rampent in the south seas, but some of them have even gone back to their roots and are using swords, or long knives as the report states.

I would like to present data that the temperature in Washington, DC dropped considerably on Wednesday, September 20, 2006. I feel that the correlation between the 10 degree temperature drop and the incredible amount of pirate activity did not just cause a momentary dip, but is actually still effecting the climate. Perhaps increased pirate activity will be able to counteract global warming!

    Bobby,

This website has been up for over a year (I’m really not sure how old this is). You definately made your point: To protest the ludicracy and stupidity of Intelligent Design, and openly mock the Kansas School Board’s decision to back it, choosing misguided faith over science. But when you start to publish a bible based on the FSM and sponsor “Talk like a pirate day”, don’t you think that you’re taking this in the wrong direction? I did not read your bible yet, but I’m concerned that the original message is going to be lost in the parody of mocking religion.

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
