Talk like a pirate day

September 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

This is important for a number of reasons, but for Pastafarians it provides a convenient source of pirate-behavior data to substantiate the Pirates Vs. Temperature correlation which serves as a keystone of our religion. We expect to see a considerable drop in temperature worldwide on Tuesday the 19th, due to the widespread pirate activity taking place.

I will be collecting quantitative temperature data via the interwebs, but if you have anecdotal (or specious) evidence of unseasonably cold weather, please describe it for us as a comment to this post.

Also, if you’ve done anything amazingly piratey today, please leave a comment about it. We all need to do our part to reverse Global Warming.

You can expect a thorough report of my findings on Wednesday or Thursday.

Here in Washington, it’s been basically months since we’ve had any real rainfall. Look it up yourself.

The day after Talk Like a Pirate Day, we get more rain than we have in probably 2 months. Coincidence? I think not!

In Louisiana, it is 119 degrees.

    That’s cold here.

    THANKS ME MATIES!

I think you’ve got it all wrong - there are, of course, more pirates today than ever before (please paddle you canoe up the Malacca Straits waving your family jewels and see the result)

This means that GLOBAL cooling IS A CORRELATED SCIENTIFIC FACTOID so please hang onto your winter willy warmers for the time being.

It’s much cooler if you use Celsius like I do anyway. I mean 30 degs is a hot day.

Yaar…I’ve lived in the Tampa Bay area (founded by pirate Jose Gaspar) for 20 years. Never have we been hit by a cold front to break our summer weather earlier than October. But…shiver me friggin’ timbers, a front moved through Tuesday night and yesterday, and we be chillin’. In your face, chreeestians. RAmen.

On September 20th, Birmingham, Alabama experienced its lowest overnight temperature in over five months. Naturally, our timbers were shivering due the activities of “Talk Like a Pirate Day” the previous day. Once again our temperatures are rising. I think this provides all the evidence you need.

Well i have for one live in Boston, and the 19th i did feel a dramatic decrease in temperature, and i thought to myself, “Captain Pete, this weather is odd, it was very warm the other day…” and in class today i went online and saw it was talk like a pirate day. Flying Spaghetti Monster is for real guys.

I have been doing my part to stop global warming by downloading (and, indeed, uploading) pirated software on the net. It just happens to go along with the loose morals thing, too. Oh, and Ohio is cold lately! On the 18th it was 80 degrees, and it’s been steadily dropping to the 50s and 60s. I think we have done our part.

  14. 134 - September 21st, 2006 at 4:40 pm - Brady Says:

I just wanted to let everyone know that pirates are back. I know on the surface it would appear piracy is at an all time low. However, a recent visit to the Internation Chamber of Commerce, has led me to believe otherwise. I advise everyone to visit their websit and see for themselves:

    http://www.icc-ccs.org/prc/piracyreport.php

You’ll find that not only are Pirates running rampent in the south seas, but some of them have even gone back to their roots and are using swords, or long knives as the report states.

On Tuesday I saw a man with a patch on his eye. True story. Now it’s cold even at night. There are no coincidences - only pirates. Pieces of eight!

  17. 137 - September 21st, 2006 at 9:34 pm - Heather Says:

I would like to present data that the temperature in Washington, DC dropped considerably on Wednesday, September 20, 2006. I feel that the correlation between the 10 degree temperature drop and the incredible amount of pirate activity did not just cause a momentary dip, but is actually still effecting the climate. Perhaps increased pirate activity will be able to counteract global warming!

  18. 138 - September 21st, 2006 at 9:38 pm - Great Gazoo Says:

    PLEASE OHHH PLEASE STOP !!!!

    STOP speaking like a pirate!!

The temperature here in Oakville, Ontario has dropped from 27 to 8 degrees in the last 2 days. I’m freezing my ass off on my motorbike. I LIKE global warming!

  19. 139 - September 22nd, 2006 at 3:56 am - Puffy Says:

    Ahoy again

Well I’m sure that there has been conclusive evidence now that the lack of pirates really do cause global warming. As I stated on Tuesday, it was hellishly cold for spring, however since then its been back to normal and sweltering hot. Coincidence? I think not!

  20. 140 - September 22nd, 2006 at 6:30 am - RB Bonzo Says:

    AARRRRGH

Have ye noticed that the 3 months after September 19 are always much cooler than the 3 months before? Shiver me timbers!

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
