Think about this, asshole….

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

Jesus Christ and the American G.I.

One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

I just have to say this…

Here is one pastafarian FSM worshipper that is fighting for your right to teach false doctrine in schools and shove it down my kids’ throats. What makes you think you’re so special that the troops are dying just for YOUR OWN personal freedom??

Hey, Ty. Here’s what Thomas Jefferson had to say about preambles.

“Where the preamble declares, that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed by inserting “Jesus Christ,” so that it would read “A departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion;” the insertion was rejected by the great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every denomination.”

-Thomas Jefferson, Autobiography, in reference to the Virginia Act for Religious Freedom

Reference to your god was specifically eliminated from preambles. I suggest you be more aware in the future.

    Heh. I love these things.

Hey, “Ty”, I support the troops by NOT supporting the war – I’d like them to come home now, and in one piece.

I very much doubt you hold ANY job, let alone one in the service. If our troops spent as much time online as you do, we’d be doing a lot worse militarily than we already are.

I maintain that if you support the war, you don’t support the troops – you’re trying to get them killed.

Well I’m just a crazy Iraqi war vet with a list of dead friends and a scientific approach to my beliefs. Let me help you all understand some of my crazy beliefs.

First of all, not every American military action is in defense of American freedom. More often than not, military actions are peacekeeping or policing actions. So while you should honor the selfless sacrifice made by the brave souls that are willing to put their lives on the line, you need not respect the orders given to them by a person they may or may not have voted for. I do support my troops but I don’t support some of our generals. So let us separate the men and the mission. If anything, you should admire the strength of those who continue on with a mission they think is wrong just because they want to keep their word. Don’t believe me? Check this out:

Secondly, as a recovering Christian, I know the bible. I know the beliefs and I know how irrational they are. One would do well to purge himself of such handicap. In a spirit of hypocrisy, I will say that there is far too much going on in this world to waste your time posting responses to an obviously misguided lunatic with a wit far slower than his words.

    Thank you,
    Joe

Oh, by the way, Iraq doesn’t have any large bodies of water. What does that mean? NO NAVY! So unless you are a Sea-Bee, a Seal, a Corpman, or a Chaplin, you haven’t seen what Iraq is. Give me a call when you spend endless months walking IED infested streets with your fellow Infantrymen waiting to get blown up or shot.

    Respectfully,
    Joe

If Jesus Christ died for my soul, then how come everything I do brings threats of Hell from Christians?
Hell, (no pun intended) if God hates everything I do so much, I don’t want to go to his Heaven anyways.
His ’son’ died for our sins, but if we sin, we are still in trouble.
What if God impregnated Mary so that when everyone found out about it, they would try to kill her, so God would have no worries. Then Jesus was born, and he didn’t die for our sins, but because God wanted us to think that; he was really trying to get an illicit son off of his hands.

while we’re on this topic; i’m canadian. our taxes go to supporting OUR troops to help YOUR troops because there are people like the poster who agree with the war; which could’ve been georges fault in the first place! if you want george to kill of all of your troops, and ours, you’re support is really helping.

so far no GI has died for my freedom
and i’m sure that there is no evidence that some guy named jesus from the town of nazareth existed
much less that he died for my soul and then came back to life

“And those of you who believe the spaghetti monster is real know it is fake, but you also know that God is real.”

Hmmm…I didn’t know that I knew that God is real, but now that I’ve been told, I guess I do.

Oh, wait. Nope. Still not real.

I just celebrated 21 years in the US military, the same day my wife celebrated 2 (yes, she started late). I don’t see any doctrine of the FSM that opposes us, or our service. Nor do I respect the attempt to persuade me by stereotype that as an American I must believe in God (Which I don’t) and support the war (Which I do) and hate science (Which I don’t).

The ultimate irony is that, if there is truly no God, Christians won’t have a chance to feel stupid about it when they die and nothing happens.

I have heard something similar before, oh yeah that was it, the 9/11 bombers said something along the same lines. They were dying in Gods honor to show people the light and evils of the west so as to save their souls.
    .
Jesus never died for me or you, in fact there is very little evidence that Jesus was actually alive or a real person.

Also, considering tha a good number of non-americans are active on this site, it’s a little presumptious to say that only american GIs have ever died for our freedom. not to sound too much like an arse, but america was late to join both world wars.
(note – i am not condoning world wars here)

    Now now,
I think we’re doing Tyler a disservice here. I mean he’s only using the argument that organised religion has used for centuries – people died to protect *my* right to try and repress *you* from expressing the same right. It seems somewhat hypocritical, trying to use the freedom that those soldiers died for to try and repress that freedom.

Of course, this is the stated goal of the people that the soldiers are dying to try and defeat. They want to stop you from believing in your God, instead you must believe in theirs. Sound familiar anyone?

On the other hand, I have to disagree with WPoFD. I doubt anyone (with a brain) thinks that the separation of church and state is anything but a good thing.

Big respect to Staff Sgt Snieder – brilliant post, and I agree completely.

    @Tim Montague.
    .
Whilst I appreciate that humans all have their very own foibles, I worry about your scientific training when you so clearly fail to self-apply. For example, you believe in the existence of the Krebs cycle because of the positive evidence presented for it. You fail to believe in the millions of other possible cycles out there because of a *lack of evidence presented*. Quite simply, a good scientist should utilise Occam’s razor to its fullest, and believe only that for which evidence exists.
    .
There is not, and can never be, empirical evidence for God, thus the ONLY rational recourse should be disbelief. You got your PhD, as I got mine, from a university. I put it to you that Universities and Academia can never be anything but diametrically opposed to organised religion. Academic endeavour is an attempt to elucidate truth, without any pre-conceived notion of what that truth is. Religion seeks to shoe horn any non-contradictory facts to suit its preconceived notions, and to reject the ones that do contradict it.
    .
May the FSM guide you to a greater understanding,
    RAmen

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
