It’s OK to be a starving child in America. I’m hungry.

@ Greed, I ask you as I asked Wrath a few days ago, “What, exactly, do you suggest I do about the ills you describe?” Yes, I could send some of my money to a starving African family, but will it get to them? Will it stop war, famine, and pestilence? I will give you (and Wrath) credit, though. It did get me thinking. The conclusion that I have come to so far is that I have a good life that could fall apart at any minute. Nothing is sacred, nowhere is safe. Granted, my life is probably safer than millions of others, and I am grateful for that. I thought about the food I bought today, the gas I consumed, the unnecessary items I purchased. Is this what you want?

Oh, and about the T-shirt. Yes, it is a waste of resources if you look at it from your point of view. However, it is part of a bigger picture. Our government, as flawed as it is, has stood the test of time when compared to many governments around the world. Our Constitution has meaning, and interpretation of it translates into real-world decisions. Today, it’s what will be taught in schools as science. Tomorrow it could be what religion I am told I have to practice. There are principles involved here that are worth defending. I’m sure you understand that concept.

@ SaucyWench – I don’t have much time for eloquence but I wanted to say RAmen! We don’t have to like people or agree with them to be positively influenced by them. Kudos to you for taking an angry, annoying troll and using that to think about your life. I hope everyone has a chance to read your comments – many people will gain a good perspective for having done so.

@ CNS TBHNA – If there were a top secret discussion forum (and there can’t be because if there were I’d know) I might have posted a question to you about your name. But since there have been around 400 non-existent secret posts this weekend alone, it might have got lost in the imaginary shuffle. So, I’ll ask it here!

Eloquent is such a great word. Aristotle thinks there should be a “Word of the Day.” Today’s word should be pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcano-coniosis, meaning ‘a lung disease caused by the inhalation of very fine silica dust’ (from the Guiness book of world records). Use it as much as possible

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
